This is in line with remarks from the show's costume designer Isis Mussenden, who noted that the women in the series are dressed for "doing jobs" rather than "swanning around in pretty dresses."

I like this philosophy. Don't get me wrong, I totally wanna see the pretty dresses when appropriate, such as in the palaces or Tower. But the aesthetic meshes well with the level of power and autonomy that women have in the books.
