Problem with IRC chat?

Is anyone having a problem with IRC Chat? I cannot get it to actually connect to the server. Could it be a problem with my computer (Mac)? My wireless seems to be fine, no issues with regular online activity or netflix.

I'm so frustrated.

I'm not sure what method you are attempting to use; more information would be helpful with help requests such as yours. We use sorcery.net; you can go to their website, click "Chat Now," enter a nick and type in the channel (#wheel). You can also use IRC clients (like mIRC and hydraIRC).

We also have a Mibbit link to connect you directly to our main channel. If you click "Home" from the top menu on our site, then "Site Resources" followed by "Link to IRC" you should end up here. I just tried it out, and it worked fine.

It must be my internet connection or something. I have been going to Home, then Site Resources, the IRC Chat and it will not connect. I get the screen where you enter your nickname, and it just remains on "connecting". I'll try the web site you suggested as well.

I've had the same problem as you when I used the Safari browser. I've also connected through the link in our Home -> Site Resources -> IRC. Maybe it's some sort of Safari problem? Sometimes it worked for me, sometimes I had to try several times for it to connect. When I've tried with Google Chrome it has always connected straight away.

Thanks for the info Taika Sedai! I'll try using Chrome from my Mac. Whenever I tried through the Home, Site Resources, and IRC it just stayed on the "connecting to server" screen forever. Thanks so much for the help!

Rae, some of the servers might not like the your ISP. I have that problem with one, so what I do is to manually choose the server to connect to; <server>.sorcery.net. One can find a list of servers here

Another good option is to download an IRC client (presuming you're not on a work/school/public computer) -- I've got Colloquy on my Mac (running Mountain Lion now, but I had it under Snow Leopard, too), and it connects just fine (though I did have to manually specify a server name; I found the list on www.sorcery.net).

I find sometimes it hangs, I only use the link on this site. So just reload and it works.
