I rely on email notifications to know when things are updated (threads with new posts, new threads in forums I watch). I haven't been getting any email notifications for @ mentions for a long time, even though I think I've set my settings correctly. Does anyone have any input to help me?
As far as I'm aware, there's not a setting that will send emails for @ mentions. You can receive an alert on the boards (settings managed under Alert Preferences), but not an email. Someone in tech can correct me if I'm wrong though, but I don't see anything for it.
I thought I used to get an email after a certain amount of time but then I might be remembering another site I was on. I have noticed not seeing a few @mentions as well.. even in my alerts set to .. alert me. Check box next to: Someone mentions you in a message.. Just thought it was me though..
There are some additional reports of this in Faire Grounds here: https://www.tarvalon.net/index.php?...agement-the-longest-chain.45048/#post-1729502 @Serinia Edoras @Tallan Daar @Erin al'Denael
I wonder if its the edit thing.. do we get notifications if you notify someone in an already posted post?
I'm wondering if they all disappear (except for being in the alert list) if you check your alerts? Is that what's happening? I mean, I had 3, checked the list, and the others were still in the alert list but it wasn't red flagged. All of my stuff is checked here though: https://www.tarvalon.net/index.php?account/alert-preferences
I got notified that Stasia tagged me here That one's still visible if I check my my alert list, whereas there was no alert in the first place for being tagged in Wolf Cheese Pie.
Didn't get the edited tag. Did get Tallan's tag. ...so if you want someone to get a notification, fresh post y'all!
Not sure if this is a related issue but in lieu of starting a thread in case it's related: Sometimes I'll see that a watched thread hasn't sent me an alert. I don't have email notifications but I do have it set up so I can get the alerts of new posts here, and sometimes it won't come through as an alert, even if I'm active in the thread.
It happens to me too, Nary. I've found if I've been watching a thread for awhile, it stops sending me the notifications.
Wish we knew the max number... 'Jr. Members searching for Old Timers' thread is not efficient as we hoped because of this problem.
I think it's higher than 5. I looked around and couldn't find it - once I have some time I'll dust off my google skills (The 5 is the maximum number of people in a conversation)
OK, because I just can't leave things alone..apparently it's a setting in usergroups..so we would have to get @Deoan Kakarot or @Barmacral Tigana to take a look. It could be that we have it set to no maximum. But keep in mind..the only people who will get alerts are the people that have alerts turned on.
So it only emails you about a thread after you've viewed the thread. If it sends and email and that gets lost, bounced, filtered, etc, it stops sending you emails about that thread. Notifications at the top work, but only for the last 30 or so threads to be posted in. There is a max number of user tags per post (currently 5), there was a thing where spammers would bulk tag people a while back.
Can you up the number of tags by rank? Like when you just join without being a citizen or otherwise, turn off tags and then let different ranks have more?
Groups are weird in XenForo. There's a "primary group" assigned to everyone (Registered) which has settings, and then secondary groups assigned as appropriate (Blue Aes Sedai, MDD Gaidin). I'm not sure which number would take precedence, but we could try it.
