I can't wait! :D I really hope there'll be an ebook version, though. I already have one huge hardcover (AMoL) that I need to ship back to the states eventually, I really don't need another. :blink

Seriously hoping they're smart and release an eBook. It's for a fundraiser, so I sort-of doubt it will happen...but here's hoping!

    More Info

Taken from the above link, here's what Leigh Butler had to say about the new story:

    ...

“River of Souls” is, in Hollywood parlance, pretty much a DVD extra: a scene Brandon wrote for AMOL which was later cut for narrative story flow reasons. It is somewhat unfortunately true (as it generally is of “deleted scene” extras) that the story most likely will not make a lot of sense to someone who has not read the main series first, but if you have read the Wheel of Time, it is (in my opinion) a fascinating look into one aspect of what was going on “behind the scenes” of the main action of the story, concerning one of the most enigmatic and speculated-about characters of the entire series.

Many WOT fans already know to which character I am referring, of course (especially those of you who attended this year’s JordanCon, where Brandon spoke about it), but just in case you don’t, I ain’t gonna spoil you for who it is, yet. (I also suggest that you follow Brandon’s own suggestion in the foreword to the story, which was to read the story first and the foreword, er, afterward.)

I will tell you that it was, succinctly, hella cool to read, and is sure to generate some very interesting conversation among fans about what it says about this character, as well as what it implies about the larger universe of the Wheel of Time and the nature of its central conflict. There’s not much else I can say about the story that won’t spoil it, but I feel I am on very safe ground in stating that if you are a WOT fan, you are definitely going to want to read this—if only so that you can do what we do best and fight about it discuss it afterward.

I don't think the eBook is available yet...from what I can tell even the physical copies are only preorder now and arriving at an undetermined date. Since it's for charity/not an Amazon thing I guess we're at their whim/they'll release the eBook when they feel like it

Really surprised this doesn't have more attention yet!!! It is the front page of Dragonmount right now. It has a review and some summary elements if anyone wants to check it out. Apparently it comes out... today? Is that true? I just saw the date, and am now even more excited!!!

Has anyone read it? I want to get the Kindle version but I'm not much interested in most of the other stories. Trying to decide if I should buy this NOW or wait a bit.

I started reading it, but then got distracted. I already bought and downloaded it since, while I'm not super excited about the other stories, there are a lot of others I know in it and I do plan on reading them all eventually.

    Just finished it!

    AMoL spoilers:
It was cool to get to see a brief behind-the-scenes of what Demandred was up to. It was certainly very brief and left me wanting to learn more about Sharan society, but it was still enjoyable. I can definitely see why it was cut. Having all these new words thrown at me and sudden Sharan worldbuilding which we'd barely seen before in the final book would've been kinda distracting, though it was nice to read as a behind-the-scenes sort of thing. It also would've taken some of the surprise out as, rather than suddenly having the Sharans burst onto the scene through gateways, you'd be waiting the whole book as soon as this scene happened for them to show up. I know I would at least.

Its a very short snippet really and doesnt go into as much detail as I thought it might. It is a good story but id definitely borrow the book from a library if possible rather than shell out for it just for that one story. If you want the other authors stories too then its more worthwhile purchase.

    AMoL spoilers:
Whilst it was nice to get a bit of insight into what Demandred had been up to and the Sharan culture no matter how briefly I do think this could have been included in the book (and possibly the previous 2 Sanderson did) building up that story a bit more. Jordan and Sanderson did enough following Moghedion and Graendel and the other forsaken that this wouldnt have seemed amiss. I still didint get a feel that Demandred cared about the Sharans really in AMoL and his actions in the last battle just made him seem obsessed and a bit mad.

    Totally agree.
Seemed like there was something he could have lived for in Shara, and could have replaced his obsession with his position and the love he found there.
