With the ongoing pandemic, and the restriction in real life events, we have seen an increase in people holding and organising online events. As these contribute to our comunity, we wanted to recognise them for the Merit badges and so created the Virtual Event Merit
https://library.tarvalon.net/index.php?title=Virtual_Events_Merit
Initially, this is a silver merit, but may be expanded to have a gold leve if this seems necessary. It is also a new merit, and we are still learning how common such events are, and how much effort they take to organise, so we will likely review. Each event will count only for one person - the host or organiser, and they will need to show proof of attendance

  • Coffee Talk - Host 10 online chats or virtual meetings
  • Movie Buff - Host 5 online movie watch events
  • Achievement Unlocked - Host 5 online quizzes or trivia
  • I Was There - Attend 20 virtual events
  • Epic Event - plan an epic event. This is a nomination only merit for people who have planned large online events such as America's Next Top Gaidin

OK, I feel like we need a "The-rest-of-the-world's Next Top Gaidin" as well then ;).

Like World Idol, Norway is in it to win it. Also, I too look like a hobbit, so that is a plus

(If you don't take the reference:

Necropost!

As mentioned in the original post in this thread, the virtual events merits are all silver with no gold equivalents, but golds could be considered in the future. I'm guessing that's why they also don't apply to the Alchemist gold merit, as they could potentially have their own gold later. Is there a timeline for when to review this and decide which path seems better, dedicated gold vs. new category in Alchemist gold?

It doesn't apply to me personally, but someone else was talking about event merits and I got curious.

Yes, if we get near tot he time when someone could earn a gold, we will decide which way to go. We are a way off though

Bumping this in case people do not know how to submit participation for this merit:

If you’re hosting an online event with TarValon.Net participants, please make a screenshot and send it to archivist@tarvalon.net, along with filling out THIS FORM for ease of counting this merit.

Who's keeping track of attendence for "I was there"? Is that something we should do individually or is the host/organizer keeping track of everyone?

The form has a spot to include who attended, so I would assume the host filling out the form would keep track of attendance. I could of course be wrong, though.

That said - when I clicked the link just to take a look at the form, it gave me a bit of trouble (said it needed permission) until I found that I was logged out of my TV.net email. Once I logged back into that, when I clicked the link again it opened. Just thought I'd mention in case anyone runs into this problem in the future!

Additional question: in the Library, the page states that an event must have at least 10 participants to count. For general hangouts, is it OK if those participants are in and out/not all online at the same time, as long as there are at least 10 people who attend total? Or do there have to be at least 10 people gathered at once?

As this is a new merit, the exact numbers may change as we learn more about how these virtual events are working, but for the moment, I'd say 10 in total should be good

Indeed, the host submits the form and screenshot with all the attendees, so that information is also saved automatically. As an attendee nothing is asked of you. (well you may try to keep this score yourself if you want :p )

Also please submit participation even if you haven't got 10 people in total attending!

Based on Toral's last comment - basically we need to see what events gain more participation and how many attendees usually attend in case the rule for 10 people needs to be changed. If we have no data, then we cannot make changes when needed.

(but also if you do not want to submit, then that's ok too :look: )
