Mistborn - Brandon Sanderson

Fair enough. Elantris was awesome. I'd offer to let you borrow mine if I wasn't on the other side of the country :] My favorite so far's still been Warbreaker though. The whole thing was put together brilliantly and I loved Lightsong(God of Bravery and one of the main characters). That's on his site digitally if you want to read it.

But I'm getting off topic. Mistborn FTW!

You can get a paperback Mistborn boxed set trilogy for a very good price on Amazon, usually. It makes a great gift, I've bought three or four of the boxed set as gifts and it's currently 32% off list price. You might want to look into that for your friend, Myralin, it might be cheaper than just buying books 2 and 3 individually.
And Cyrus, we actually have a threat around here for Warbreaker. :D It's probably my favorite Sanderson too! (Although The Way of Kings could also be my favorite, it's so hard to decide.)

I loved Elantris and thought Warbreaker was good. Mixed feelings about the Mistborn trilogy. It was just so bloody - creeped me out. I haven't gotten the Way of Kings yet - waiting to hear some reviews.

I liked it - just not as much as I liked Elantris or even Warbreaker. It was just so bloody.

It was fairly bloody I guess.

But in an awesome way. It was bloody for actions sake, not just for violence sake like say ASoIaF.

[spoiler:1iycho6j]When Vin carved her way through and entire battalion using just a belt buckle, that was awesome for example.Or when she blew away another lot on horse using Duralumin boosted push.[/spoiler:1iycho6j]

I found the hemalurgy pretty disturbing, actually anything involving the Inquisitors. I loved it anyway, but I agree, Jane, it got pretty bloody and gruesome at times.

Actually, I dare to say this even though I'll sound a bit like an old whiny aunt (well I'm almost middle aged, and an aunt too :cheeseeni: ) but I think it's a good thing when violence in the books digusts the reader. Violence is disgusting, and imo it shouldn't be written too offhand or entertaining.

And I agree, Hemalurgy & Inquisitors were really creepy, but I loved it when Sanderson wrote from Marsh's point of view.

Axis - TSoIaF was the next book I was going to read after I finish the Phillip Rothfuss - now that you told me that mybe I should pass?

As far as Mistborn goes the battle scenes didn't bother me near as much as the Inquisitors - Big agree with Talka and Winterdawn on that point.

Yes, the first book was bloody awesome! The second one for me was "meh", and the third one was "hmmm...now I can read Warbreaker".

I actually don't remember this series being "bloody", however. But then again, I just finished rereading ASoIaF.

Hemalurgy was indeed creepy and bloody, but kinda brilliant and creative, too. I just think they killed off an awful lot of characters. I mean,
[spoiler:1wmy2dk8]Vin, Elend, Kelsier, Dockson, Clubs, Tindwyl, and OreSeur all die, and TenSoon ends up as good as dead. I think the only characters that made it through all three books were Spook, Sazed, Breeze, and Ham. Also, did Marsh die? I can't remember what happened to him. But he would have been better off dead.[/spoiler:1wmy2dk8]

Thanks for the links, Winter, but I might have a giftcard lying around here somewhere that I can use...

I just started Way of Kings today. Pretty good so far, but I'll post about it in the correct thread.

I agree! So many people died.
[spoiler:2j96naxl]With how many people ended up dead, it's not what I'd normally call a happy ending, especially with Vin and Elend dead. Yet I still loved the ending for some reason. Sazed is practically dead too, or at least ascended to a different level of of existence.[/spoiler:2j96naxl]

I agree about Sazed.
[spoiler:q4m7h1wb]But at least Vin and Elend are apparently happy in wherever they went to. And at least they both died. it would have been way too sad if only one died. With Vin, you could see it coming. But Elend's death was so sudden! AND THEY CUT HIS HEAD OFF. just like that. I nearly started crying. On the bus. I believe I also cried when Clubs died. I loved that old guy.[/spoiler:q4m7h1wb]

[spoiler:22dyiex3]YES if Vin or Elend had died but the other had lived, that would have been terrible! I don't think I could have taken it. But since they both died and were apparently together in their afterlife, I can deal with it. I never really felt that attached to Clubs but it still made me so sad when he died. I was glad Spook survived.[/spoiler:22dyiex3]

[spoiler:2y5nyvhn]I felt so attached to all the characters! It was weird. I even loved Dockson, even though there really wasn't much of him in there. I was SO happy that Spook lived! I thought he might not after he ran into that burning building. He became my favorite after all my other favorites were killed off. :look: Sucks that Tindwyl died, though. She was awesome. Occasionally annoying, but awesome. And Elend survived as long as he did because of her.

Do you know what happened to Marsh?[/spoiler:2y5nyvhn]

[spoiler:m88m2in3]I am pretty sure Marsh died. I don't remember right off, it's been a while since I've reread The Hero of Ages. I'll check when I get home though, if I remember.[/spoiler:m88m2in3]

[spoiler:3qsjzvp4]Elend stabbed him, but then he killed Elend, so I don't remember if he died or not. And I had to return the book before I had a chance to look it up.[/spoiler:3qsjzvp4]

[spoiler:7mguls1c]You guys actually like Spook? I found his really annoying. The only thing I found more ridiculous than this "street slang" was how quickly he lost it. All of a sudden he was speaking normally. And then when he had his own chapter towards the end, I just wanted to skip it. I really liked Dockson's interactions with Kel and the big Pewter burner (I forgot his name). That was some humorous banter.[/spoiler:7mguls1c]

[spoiler:1osvzjak]It's really weird, I can't remember about Marsh either, even though I found him the most interesting of the characters in the series. I thought Vin killed him, but don't really remember now. :scratch And my copies of the books are in Finland. Anyway, Marsh was my favourite character, despite what he became of. He was the real hero. :cheeseeni:
I never liked Elend, because compared to all the others he was too one-sidedly good. Everybody else were more complex, even Sazed. About Spook, I somewhat agree with Darthaemos, he was annoying in many ways. I liked him better in the beginning of the series when he was just the fresh recruit. But he also was the logical survivor, despite all the damage he did to himself. All in all I think it was an amazing collection of characters, and I felt attached to really many of them. And the ending was brilliant.[/spoiler:1osvzjak]
