This is what he deserved!I like Elaida and Galad more than him and that's saying a lot.
Hmmm i dont mind Faile at all BUT im only on the 6th book! LOL If she gets worse that saying something!
Nynaeve, Egwene really bother me but you sort of get use to them I guess. LOL I thought Perrin sucked..right up until he MET FAILE! LOL I feel like she is great in the way that SHE is his strength and backbone. He is pretty indecisive, but with her at his back he becomes more decisive, and gets pushed around less. In the 3rd book he was having a hard time with Moirane, being Pushed around by her and taking it..THEN..BAM..Faile comes in and gives him the strength to defy her for the firts time!
Also...Bela IS creepy..... Why oh Why does that horse Always survive? Im pretty sure Rand should ride her into the last battle because she is SUre to know what to do to keep them both alive!
Faile and Berelain got on my nerves but I ground my teeth every time Taim was mentioned. I hated him from his first appearance.
I don't understand the Egwene hate, I quite like her. I never really liked Rand to be honest or Olver.
Out of the Forsaken...Rahvin bored me and Asmodean irritated me.
It's the fact she never has to work for anything, she lies constantly, and she wears the idiot hat a lot
Uh, what? She spends most of the entire series working for things. She mostly just actively lied about being a full Aes Sedai before she was, and there were a few things she needed to keep close to the vest due to fears of Black Ajah stuff. And I have no idea what you mean about "the idiot hat", unless it's being interested in Galad and then Gawain.
I agree with Elo. I'd say that Egwene (apart from her choice in men) was one of the more switched-on women of the series. As for not working for anything...
did you completely miss the struggle she had to actually become Amyrlin in reality and not just in name?
And that's just one example.
She's a professional protege, she lies constantly, she never earned anything she got, and she's annoying as hell.
As for the idiot hat, I meant her constant bitching about Rand. She knows for a fact he's the Dragon Reborn, yet all she does is bitch about him.
I feel like my explanations/interpetations of her behaviour, and even confusion about what you mean, are off-topic for the thread. I'd be interested in pursing the conversation in PMs, if you're interested, but no hard feelings if not.
It's all good.
I'm an Egwene hater, too. I agree with Rhandhal that her lack of trust in Rand as the freaking Dragon Reborn is worse than irritating. It's immature. I know that she's beloved by many folks; I'm just not one of them.
And everything came so easy to her; most of what she did she didn't earn. I wish we hadn't seen her again after she was collared in the second book.
I liked all the main characters except at the end. The Forsaken and the Black Ajah members were evil and not likeable.
I didn't get the impression that anything came easier for Egwene than any of the other main characters. I mean, she trained pretty hard under the Aiel, then politicked her ass off in the rebel Aes Sedai camp,
then gave herself up to Elaida, pretty much, and refused to be rescued despite the fact that she was being beaten nonstop.
Mat, Rand, and Perrin all had very fortuitous encounters and things drop in their laps left and right. Maybe that's more acceptable "because taveren?" She had a lot of raw talent, but so did the other girls from Emond's Field. And she had a lot of passion and drive. But seems strange to say that things came too easily for her.
I'm with you on the liar and the idiot hat, though. Her constant lying to the Aiel, not just about being AS, bugged me a lot. Though it did provide a good character progression arc, where in she learned that what she had done was wrong. And the playing the idiot with regard to Rand as well as her choice in men... yeah, annoying.
I haven't always been a huge fan of hers, but I wouldn't say I hate her, and I definitely respected her by the end of the series, even though I didn't always agree with all her decisions.
I like her and the other 2 girls much better THIS time around than I used to,,, BUT still Meh.......
Way more Egwene haters out there than I thought!!! I thought everybody loved her. Of all the female characters I would say Nynaeve was the most annoying, but I don't hate her. Of the men, Perrin was the whiniest, but still I don't hate him.
My least favorite characters, and the ones I DO hate are Couladin, Galina, Sevanna, and Therava. They are just all so terrible, cruel, and unpleasant!!! Apparently I do not really like the Shaido Aiel...
I agree totally. Just read the scene of him with that peddler yesterday, and it reminded me what a moron Gawyn is. He was trained in the royal court and he should know better than to believe a rumor, especially when he doesn't even have the guts to confront Rand later in the book when Rand is either amicable or a captive.
I think she was angry and had a grudge because her 3 best friends got a piece of Rand after only knowing him for a couple years, and all she ever did was dance with him, despite growing up with him.
Hm, I have changed my opinion a lot while reading, but right now the subjects for my hate are Min and Cadsuane. The thing with Min is mostly that her relationship with Rand and the Wise Ones' way of instantly accepting her just because she has visions is unrealistic. And that she is very defined by her relationship with Rand.
Cadsuane just irritates me with her being a legend and such things, without actually giving an explanation to what she has done that is so legendary. And that everyone loses their backbones around her, as she expects them to.
I also disliked Aviendha and Faile before, I don't like the way they are entered in the books. It feels like their relationships develop in a forced way. Later I dropped my dislike for both of them after getting a look into how they think.
I also hate Egwene/Gawyn. Their relationship gets so little time I don't even understand how they know eachother. Which does not mean I hate Egwene.
But I'm not finished reading yet, so my opinion might change.
I agree a bit with you on Cadsuane.
Though, more to her behaviour, I know its normal to respect Aes Sedai. But she takes it a bit to far in my opinion..
Adviendha is still one of my favourites, although can't exactly explain why.
I still like Egwene, but she could've been more supportive of Rand on occasion. She was betrothed to him for crying out loud!
I do agree with Gawyn made some poor choices. I still got some problems with the stuff that happened in the Tower when Siuan was disposed.
