im back! 5 marks i finish the books this time...

This is very much showing my age, but my thought was “I didn’t see any mentions of 80s synth music, a young Michelle Pfieffer, Rutger Hauer, or Matthew Broderick. There aren’t any references to Ladyhawke, I must be missing something…” 😂😂
If you are aged, we are aged together. Though not as aged as someone who escaped from Sobibor.

I'm trying to avoid making a quippy reference, but I know that you know what a weak-willed person I am.

Isabeau and Navar being nothlits is now hilariously stuck in my head, even though I'm sure I saw the red-tailed hawk connection as a kid.

"Hard-hitting..."

Perhaps now is the time to mention that the reason Tobias ends up living as a red-tailed hawk is because his (step?)father is abusive.
mood. and the OTHER tobias (four from divergent) [divergent character spoiler] ALSO makes huge life changes due to an abusive father. and i can't relate to that at ALL. hahahhahahha

it runs in the name i guess 🤣

Welcome back Tobyas! I'm also a big ACOTAR fan (my favorite genre) 🦇

I have the knee tattoo and everything

The fandom is the absolute Blight though with the ship wars 😭 it can be fun in a reality TV drama sort of way, but the utter vitriol on both sides is wild. I really have to touch a lot of grass after being in any acotar space xd

Man I bet, I'm quite curious about this space! And have heavily considered a few ACOTAR tattoos. I love that you got the knee one

Welcome back! Best of luck getting through all the books this time. It almost needs a project management plan these days to get through them all, though I did manage to do a full reread last year.
Thank you Mother! indeed 😂 hopefully my constant multitasking + occasional sick days will suffice

Welcome back!

Welcome back!

love the show especially love the show music, i have some of it memorised. music of all time

Same, it just keeps getting better imo. I was bummed that the Sea Folk theme and the Harvest song didn't make it onto the soundtrack for this season, but hopefully there will be a Volume 2.

Welcome fellow cuffed pants and flannel enjoyer! What is toki pona? Where is it traditionally spoken or who by?
Thank you Satrim Sedai! for me it's mostly mismatched patterns & shorts, I have to edit the bi wardrobe to be non itchy and non long-sleeved 😂

Toki pona is a minimalist constructed language created in the early 2000s. It has only a hundred-odd words, and it's grown a pretty sizable and very active & creative community, mostly on Discord and online. I am very fond of it because the community is great & because it's the only language I'm properly fluent in 😂 it's pretty easy to pick up and then you can play indefinitely. It also does make you think about the way we cut up the world using language, and as was the intention, it is calming sometimes to impose that kind of simplicity on my mind.

Welcome back....to the slog? :love Technically you're not quite at the slog yet, though.

Hahaha when DOES the slog begin? I'm on book 7 now and I've been enjoying it a lot, so either I'm still not in it or I'm slog-resistant at this point....

I was always under the impression that it consisted of books 8-11 (though a certain arc that makes up much of the slog doesn't begin until very late in book 8).

The standard bi wardrobe isn't for everyone. I'm more of a too many silver rings and fun earrings kinda bi, myself.

I think I've heard of Toki Pana then! Or at least, I may have. I've heard of a constructed language before and I don't imagine there are too many of them about. Either way, linguistics is a super interesting subject.

Ooh, I have one silver ring (which I made myself from wire at an art camp). In my head I'm a fun earrings person, but a lot of the dangly ones hurt my ears...

Oh a whole world is unbeknownst to you 😂✨ Conlanging is a niche hobby, but there are so many out there because every linguistics nerd and their dog has a conlang project going lol. Not too many popular ones though to be fair, beyond Esperanto, the famous fictional ones, and I'd say toki pona is on the list because it has its own flair (being cute, being minimalist, and having a decent online presence). o kama sona e toki pona > : ) ["learn toki pona"]

I am not a conlanger nor worldbuilder though; there are people who will build entire languages, cultures and worlds in insane depth and they boggle my mind.

I was very into linguistics as a kid.. now I find it too sciencey. Alas only fairly abstract theology & philosophy [+ queer studies and such] can hold my interest 🥲

Earrings don't have to be hefty and chunky to be fun. There are all sorts, especially on etsy.

I reckon I'm gonna have to give this conlang stuff a closer look. I'm blaming you if I end up picking up a new hobby 😂

Abstract theology of any religion particularly? (Also, if you haven't found it already, we do have a religion channel that can be opted into if you like). I haven't read any queer theory in a bit, I've been pretty sucked into random essayists and sociology, but I'd love to get back to it some day.
