So far in 2012, Ilona Andrews is my favorite new find. I've read everything they (because it's a husband/wife duo using the name, not a single entitiy) have published or available on their website. It's good stuff! If you're looking for something urban/dark fantasy-ish, definitely check them out.

Oh, yeah, those are good! I've read the five books (not the novellas) about Kate Daniels. Waiting for the rest to come to my library. ^^

I agree wholeheartedly. I just finished Gunmetal Magic after having read all of the other Kate Daniels books over the course of about a month, and I'm planning to start the Edge series soon.

I'm reading the first book, as per your recommendation, Erin Sedai :)

Fun. And it does remind me of Patricia Briggs. I still like Briggs better (Magic Bites still hasn't pulled me in quite yet), but Andrews is funnier, cheekier. Kinda also reminds me a little of The Last Dragonslayer by Jasper Fforde, which I loved :joy

I've finished the book and it was pretty much fun, but I wasn't, well, I wasn't engrossed, I wasn't enchanted. :cheese It has all the elements I usually like, but somehow it didn't quite work out for me. I might read the sequel at some point, but not yet, I don't think :look

The Kate Daniels series is my go-to series when I want something to fill a reading gap (ie I can't afford a new book this side of payday - or I could but then I wouldn't eat :p ).

I really enjoyed the Edge books too just not as much as I love reading Kate/Curran. Read if you like Karen Marie Moning's Fever series. (or vice versa)

Ooh did someone say this is similar to Patricia Briggs? If so I shall put the books on my "To Read" list for after AMoL ;)

I haven't read the Edge series yet. I keep meaning to but have never gotten around to it. It's on my list, though!

The new book, Magic Rises, came out Tuesday. I rather loved it. :D

All the parts with Hugh especially. I just love to hate that guy. This one has all the comedic bits you'd expect, the fights, and Jim has sisters?!

Going to put the whole thing in spoilers. All about Magic Rises, read at your peril.
I thought Jim's sister(s) had been mentioned before, but can't remember where. Something about his sister acting as the female alpha for the Cat clan since he didn't have a mate. Which leads to the fact that there was too little Jim in this book and I want to see what's the current status of his relationship with Dali. I want more Dali, period. And more Jim. Why did Andrea get a book but Jim got only a novella.

    Ahem.

I liked Hugh too, he is a great character, glad that he didn't die. I wanted to punch Curran for much of the book, I understand why he acted like he did but it was still an assholish thing to do.

Aunt B!!! Why, oh why did they have to kill one of my favourite characters?!?!? Couldn't they have killed Mahon or Saiman instead? :cry

Now when's the next book coming out?

Yeah I could totally do without Mahon; him instead of Aunt B would have worked. But it made sense for B. I also wanted to punch Curran. I was really surprised how well Kate reigned it in. I thought she'd have reacted way sooner than she did. And wasn't there supposed to be a Jim/Dali novel, but the publishing house axed it when they decided to add more to the Kate Daniels storyline? Or that's what I'm vaguely remembering.
Hopefully summer of next year, but who knows? They tend to produce 2 books a year, and they have the new series starting. I imagine we'll see that before the next Kate Daniels.

But I've read more about the next Kate Daniels on their website than about the new series, whatever it is. But it might be selective reading or memory on my part. And isn't Innkeeper supposed to get printed soonish, so that might be the next book that's coming out. Who knows? Or who's telling?

Innkeeper as an ebook with an epilogue, yes. Then new series thing, then Kate. I could be completely wrong, but I think that's what I read? :p

I'm going to be bored at work tonight going through their blog just to verify now. -_-

Yes, please do the research for me. :D

I'm actually not going to buy Innkeeper. I read it online and my reaction was lukewarm. There was potential there but it just wasn't even close in quality to their actual books. Which is understandable because of what it was, a freebie serial in their blog written (probably) when there was a spare moment from "serious" work. How about you?

I'm debating. If I do, it will just be to read the epilogue. But I'm not sure.

So they decided to go ahead and do a follow-up to Clean Sweep, which I still haven't bought but am tempted to re-read anyway. :lol It's called Sweep in Peace, and the first two chapters are available here.
