Hey everyone i'm Kyredeon (pronounced KEER-DEE-IN) and i am super excited to be joining you guys!

I have been in love with WoT since i first picked up when i was 14 (about 7 years ago now) and have managed to do a re-read through the entire series once every year or so. In fact, i'm just wrapping up my 7th re-read now and am still finding little surprises along the way that remind me why this is my favourite series.

Aside from reading i am also a student and am about to enter into my last year in an Honors Double Major in psychology and criminology at the University of Western Ontario with hope to do my graduate work in Neuroscience in a couple years.

I can't wait to get to know everyone and look forward to learning how this community works and contributing to discussions wherever i can :)

Welcome to Tar Valon, Kyredeon :) Your re-reads are pretty impressive! And the little nuggets will keep popping up with each one. Am I right in thinking your avatar is Logain?

As to how the site works, the Amyrlins and powers of Tar Valon have a number of stickies to guide. One that I ready after signing up is the Membership manual thread. And the Library here is nice if you're looking for specific information from the books.

Enjoy your stay in the "Tower that Guards."

Welcome Kyredeon! Great to meet you! If you have any questions or just want to chat, just give a holler ad everyone is pretty awesome at being helpful and chatty :)

With all your rereads, I'm sure you've pictured yourself in Randland. Which country do you see yourself being from?

Thanks for the welcome!

For the most part, my opinion of the characters has remained pretty consistent since the first time i picked up Eye of the World. Of course, my understanding and ability to relate to each character has changed over time, but overall, I still have roughly the same opinion of each character that i had when i first read the series. That being said, there are a few exceptions, cases in which going through multiple re-reads has allowed me pick up on some of the more nuanced aspects in several characters and the ways in which their threads are woven into the pattern throughout the course of the series

Specifically, and most significantly, my opinion, or perhaps my ability to appreciate, Perrin, and to a lesser extent, Faile, and their roles in the series has evolved over the course of 7 re-reads. The first few times i read the series the storyline that followed Perrin and Faile after they
separated from Rand in Tear and made their way to the Two Rivers
was kind of boring for me. I always loved reading about Egwene, Nynaeve, Elayne and to a lesser extent, Aveindha and Rand, and the chapters which focused on Perrin always felt like they got in the way of what i was really interested in reading during my first few read throughs. As time went on, i began to appreciate
Perrin's struggle to find a balance between himself and the Wolf more and more. The irony of his superb leadership capabilities despite the fact that he had no interest in it whatsoever
and his simple, yet profound outlook on life led to Perrin increasingly becoming one of my favourite characters. I still love everyone mentioned above, especially Egwene
(her death was completely un-necessary in my opinion, and is the only thing i have yet to reconcile myself to when it comes to the series)
, but i always look forward to reading about Perrin now. Also, i purely enjoy the fact that every noble he encounters takes him for a master of Daes Daemar when he is just being his normal, blunt and honest self.

Anyways, aside from that i have only minor changes in opinion about other characters in the books. I view Aes Sedai in general with less awe and respect than i once did, mostly because of the foolishness that lead to
Siuan being deposed, Elaida being raised in her place, and the Tower being split
. The same can be said for the Forsaken. Egwene and Elayne continue to be my favourite two characters, though Elyane can sometimes sound like a whining child, which detracts from her awesomeness somewhat.

Great question, thanks for providing the opportunity for me to share some of my views on the characters in the series!! There is way too much i could write in response to this so i limited myself to talking mostly about one character to avoid writing something tiresome.

Hey, the artist intended it to be Jahar Narishma, but i can see where you thought it was Logain. Thanks for the welcome and the tips!!

To answer your question Cahalan Sedai, i have definitely pictured myself in Randland and i most identify with being a citizen of Andor, though Cairhein is also tempting. The reason being that I view Andor as most like Canada, where i actually live, so it felt right to consider my self a citizen of there.

Also, it appears that im having trouble replying to specific posts; bear with me, still trying to figure out how the forum works :embarassed:

Nice, Kyredeon! Looks like much content and character discussion inf the offing :) You can post to your heart's content in the book discussion threads. The one for books 1-14 liberates you from any spoiler tags (except maybe Companion spoilers). Hope to see you there :halo

(reply with quote) button should help for 1 quote. The button next to it (right) for replies to multiple quotes.

An emphatic "No" to bonding a Red if I were an Ashaman (and I am not one). Imagine being an Ashaman caught in Tar Valon in the Third Age! But if I had a choice to bond an Aes Sedai, I would consider myself lucky if a Sarene Nemdahl accepts to be bonded to me :)
