Greetings, all! I just got cleared to join y'all here, making it roughly, uh, twenty-three years or so since I was last part of any Wheel of Time fan community? Yikes. (CompuServe's WOT forum, if there's anybody else here who was a part of that.) Back in those days we were eagerly awaiting the release of A Crown of Swords and then dissecting it down to the last comma once it came out, and people put together lists of who they would cast in the hypothetical movie that would of course never ever ever get made . . . we're getting a TV show rather than a movie, and of course none of our casting choices ended up being correct because all those people are twenty years older now (and I don't think any of us back then had the vision to say "hey, these characters could be POC"), but still! My god, it's happening!

Anyway, very excited to be here!

I've got to say I'm very excited for the show! It's going to be fascinating to see how they rework things to suit the medium -- because even if you could be sure you'd get fourteen seasons of the show and that you could fit the entirety of one book into a season (both of which are hahahaha NO), you'd still end up with some truly weird and less-than-ideal pacing. So there will be changes, and I'm super curious to see what they'll be. I mean, just from the trailer it's pretty clear we're going to see stuff at the White Tower right out of the gate, instead of that being offstage until The Great Hunt. I suspect that not only will piles of stuff get necessarily cut, but that a lot of main plots will be launched earlier, and minor characters will be merged into composites who can serve more than one function.

I had someone say it was easier to stop looking at it like fourteen (fifteen, with the prequel) books and look at it like three years. I love WoT but there is definitely some weird pacing going on there in the middle, so I hope they can take elements from the entire story and condense some of the slower parts of the books.

Yes, that's a good way of thinking about it -- look at the in-story timeline, rather than the publication structure. Or my take was, figure out how many seasons you're aiming to do, decide what the Big Event will be at the end of each season, and then build everything else around that, figuring out what needs to happen before e.g. the Horn of Valere gets used or saidin gets cleansed.

The other thing that will fascinate me is finding out how many of the words and names I've been mispronouncing all these years, heh.

Juliya, thank you! I found out about this community when I was at JordanCon, and finally got my act together enough to join. I actually have a WOT-related sekrit project I'm hoping I might be able to get some assistance with -- purely a fan endeavor; nothing official -- but I suspect I ought to wait until I've been around long enough to get citizen status before I launch into that.

Big fan of Nynaeve, at least most of the time (there were a few bits where the whole "I'll just be angry all the time" approach got to be a bit too much). And I'm not going to pretend that the fact that my hair is hip-length and usually in a braid doesn't have some amount of connection to this series. I also liked Mat once the Shadar Logoth dagger got taken away from him -- he massively grated on me during The Great Hunt, and then a book later he was one of my favorites!
