In fact, if I mathed it right, we'll finish the last full week in January.
I'm not obsessive or even OCD. I just knew if I didn't plot which chapters to read which week, I'd lost track eventually.

    ^ exactly. And you're welcome ^^

So now that I've finished the first book, I'll say that I love the books so far. So much more to the story than the movies convey. Something about the magic in books written for children...I don't know what it is that appeals to me. The simplicity of it, the way it's written to appeal to a child's sense of wonder? I don't know. I just know it pulls me in every time.
It's one of the reasons I loved The Girl Who Drank the Moon.

Somehow I got a week behind on my count. Which means I need to play a little catch-up reading. I also forgot how short the first book was compared to some of the other ones.

I wonder if we could bribe the mods to put the week’s assigned chapters in the title each week... :look @Aduiavas Ida @Elania al'Manir :look Or even put the schedule in the first post so we won’t have to search for it.

Since we're both participating, I think that can easily be arranged. ;)

@Ninya Evoneigh, would you be willing to put/have the overall schedule in your first post so that it's in an easy spot to reference? Adanys made a nice version:

First off, thanks for taking charge and posting a reading list. I feared this thread had died!
I would like to help. One thing I can do is post my short chapter summaries, so here is this week.

    SS16: “Through the Trapdoor”

With a little help from his friends, Harry gets through all the traps to find it isn’t Snape …

SS17: “The Man with Two Faces”

Harry defeats Voldemort, again. Dumbledore recaps and clarifies in the hospital, and then rigs the House Cup points. Harry returns to the muggle world.

    CoS1 “The Worst Birthday”

Harry is back with the Dursleys. They are as angry, afraid, and ashamed as ever. Dudley is still a bully. The first chapter highlights the first book.

    CoS2 “Dobby’s Warning”

Dobby shows us who, what and how house elves are. He then sabotages Harry’s return to Hogwarts, leaving the dirty work to the Dursleys.

    CoS3 “The Burrow”

    Goodbye Dursleys and Hello Weasleys.

I have also written some longer incites into some of the chapters, but none from this week. If there is anything HP related I can do, let me know.

I see from the kind post of Adanys Wynterwulf that we are ready for Chamber of Secrets Ch. 4-8! Here are my brief synopsis. I will post longer incites into some of these chapters this week.

    CoS4 “At Flourish and Blots”

Harry uses Floo-Powder and lands in Borgin and Burke’s. He avoids Malfoy and Malfoy, to be rescued by Hagrid. Lockhart exploits him at Flourish and Blott’s and Arthur boxes Lucius!

    CoS5 “The Womping Willow”

Harry and Ron could not get through the barrier, so, naturally, they had to fly the car to school, crashing into the Whomping Willow. It ticked off Snape, but everyone else was amused.

    CoS6 “Gilderoy Lockhart”

The Howler is fun. Later, we find Gilderoy projects his ego onto Harry’s actions. The in-class quiz further confirms his narcissism. Lockhart’s stunt with the pixies shows his incompetence.

    CoS7 “Mudbloods and Murmers”

Things start off bad and get worse. Malfoy is Slytherin’s seeker. Ron burps slugs. Harry is hearing voices.

    CoS8 “The Deathday Party”

Nearly Headless Nick helps Harry escape from Filch. Harry and friends go to Nick’s Deathday Party. Harry hears the voice (again) that leads to Mrs. Norris (Filch’s cat), apparently dead, hanging in front of a warning in blood, “Enemies of the Heir Beware.”

Here are some incites on Chapter 4:
At Flourish and Blots or Harry’s Wheezys

We start with Harry at the Weasleys’ and through him we learn who they are. They are the magical world. The mirror talks. They have their own ghoul who moans in the attic. Explosions from the twin’s room are nothing unusual.

More unusually for Harry, though, they like him. Molly worries about his socks and tries to get him to eat more. He joins the brothers to play quidditch in the orchard. At Flourish and Blots, when Draco accuses Harry of loving the attention brought on by Lockhart, Ginny boldly defends him saying, “Leave him alone, he didn’t want all that!”

They are part of a community. When Harry’s letter arrives at the Burrow instead of Privet Drive, Molly comments that Dumbledore doesn’t miss a trick. Odds are she (or maybe Arthur) sent Albus an owl when Harry arrived. We already know many others in the Wizarding World are keeping Dumbledore informed.

They are poor but share what they have. There is always more than enough food. They are almost out of floo powder, but they offer to have Harry go first. Ginny needs all her school supplies for the first year at Hogwarts, so they go to a second-hand robe store. There is concern that the seven required Lockhart books will be expensive. Nonetheless, everyone gets what they need.

Arthur is loyal and proud. He says, “Oh, I’d love to get Lucius Malfoy for something….” When Molly tries to reign him in he quips, “So you don’t think I’m a match for Lucius Malfoy?” Later, Lucius pulls a very used spell book from Ginny’s cauldron, broadcasting the Weasleys’ poverty, trash talking Arthur’s position, its obvious low pay, and by extension, Arthur’s rock bottom status in Wizarding Society. But lack of money, while an intermittent inconvenience, is not the mark of a man for Arthur as it is for Lucius. Arthur values his family and friends first. When Lucius flaunts his pure-blood disdain for muggles by denigrating Arthur’s family for befriending Hermione’s muggle parents, Arthur physically attacks Lucius.

Harry, having been vilified by the very materialistic and image conscious Dursleys, is now embraced by good people who like him, who are a part of a caring community, who are loyal, and who value family and friends over prestige and wealth.

    Who are you?
    Who, who, who, who?

    The Who: Who are you?

The thing I love the most about the Weasleys are the fact that even though they are poor, they don't hesitate for a SECOND to have Harry, and even Hermione staying there almost every summer holiday.
Even when they saw that Harry was pretty rich, they did not begrudge him or anything. Molly Weasley is an underestimated character. She shows Harry how a family is supposed to be and gives him something he has never had, a family. Even though she has 6 other children, she takes him in. They even paid for his ticket to the Quidditch World Cup :eek and they show up instead of his family in the Triwizard Tournament.
Molly is fiercely protective of her children, and that includes Harry. That can be seen easily in book 5 when they are staying with the Order of Phoenix, but she tried to keep them from being involved. And of course, in the Final Battle at Hogwarts. NOT MY DAUGHTER YOU BITCH. Although that was specifically Ginny, she would easily have done the same for any of her sons...

I think the Weasley's, and especially Molly, teach Harry the love of/for family. Something he has never really experienced, previously his basic needs are met but little more.

I don't know if the Arthur bought the tickets for the Quidditch World Cup... He got them through Ludo Bagman, did he not? I'm sure there's a reference somwhere to Arthur having done Bagman a favour at some point? I don't think, even with a "friendly" discount, Arthur could have afforded all those tickets in the top box.

Arthur did a favour for Ludo's brother Otto regarding a magically enhanced lawnmower :)
