Can non-citizens who are registered members see General? I moved a thread from WOT news to general, but, since a registered member who is not yet a citizen started it, Winterdawn pointed out that she may not be able to see it. I checked the membership manual but couldn't find this information.

No, they can't, or at least couldn't when I was a registered non-Citizen.

Ok....thoughts? Can we make this visible? Because honestly, there was no other place for her to put that thread....

We could... but what about in future?

I think being able to see General, and -just- General, would also help open up the community a bit more- showcase who we are to people before they invest the time to become a citizen.

I was also thinking in the future--if a newbie wants to post something general, there is no place for them to put it!

True. I've actually often wondered about the lack of on off-topic forum for non-citizens. However, General also has some threads of a rather personal nature (RL pictures, the Living with Mental Disorders, a few other smaller ones) that I don't think people would feel comfortable opening up to the general public, but also would not have another home if General was made public. So it seems like the only solution would be to have two off-topic forums.

Non-members do not see General. If you feel that should be changed, email amyrlin@ and keeper@.

This is what I was going to bring up. I'm happy sharing photos of myself (and my son!) with you guys -- but any random person who wanders by and submits the registration form...? That's a bit less comfortable. I presume the same is true of folks posting in the Living with Mental Disorders thread.

I suppose a potential option would be moving Frivolous Fun out of General and into a place registered non-Citizens can see? Radra's thread could fit there, too...

To me only a person who becomes a "citizen" has a vested interest in the site. A person who is just trolling and wants to see what the site is about should not be privy to General at all. Either be a member or not, but there is a reason why we "vet" people who are joining. From my understanding membership takes in the applications and looks them over and then gives them access. If something is wonky they are not given access. I like the process we have and wouldn't want to change it.

I really like this policy. It provides a sense of security, although it is always possible for a wacko to slip through I guess. :look:

EDIT: I haven't run across any wackos on Tar Valon.net. I think the powers that be do a fantastic job making this a wonderful site for everyone. I'm sorry if my comment caused any apprehension or confusion. :) I was speaking in the broadest and most general of terms.
