Is it possible/is there a setting I am missing where we can change from light to dark backgrounds?

That's what I asked too, @Anujun Trahearn made a plug in but it's through something you have to download not part of the site yet :(

@Ahmyra al'Ruley I made a dark theme that you enable with the Stylus browser extension. It's true to the normal theme, it just changes the colours to be easy on the eyes.

You can install the Stylus extension here:
Stylus for Chrome
Stylus for Firefox

And then install my Darkfriend theme here:
Darkfriend theme for TarValon.net

If anyone reading this (@Alora Sionn) already has the theme installed, I recommend deleting it and re-installing it to get the latest fix which I uploaded today. (Sadly, that's the only way to get updates. I'm pretty sure all of the issues are now fixed, though.)

edit: it looks like there's an "update style" button now, to install the latest version! :D

I love this, Anujun! Thank you a thousand times xD Although in my brain I am thinking of this as the "Black Tower" theme rather than the "Darkfriend" theme in my brain lol

Thanks Bruce! :pleased-1:

I just thought it was fitting that a theme that is friendly in the dark be called Darkfriend, but it was supposed to be a temporary name until I got approval to make it into an official forum theme. However, since the tech committee decided that having a dark theme went against the White Tower name; thereby relegating this theme to rebel status; I decided that it was appropriate to keep the Darkfriend name ;)

I do hope this decision is reconsidered some day, since myself and many others suffer from migraines and sensitivity to bright light, and I think it's unfortunate that we have to resort to these measures just to tolerate visiting the site. If it does become official, Black Tower would be a great name!

That makes a lot of sense actually. I hadn't thought of all the political repercussions of the theme :)

If I can ask one question about the theme? When I go to a member's profile and see the public posts on their profile, it seems that the text color on those posts is tough to read. Is there some setting on that?

If that's the primary concern, just name it Tower After Dark. :p

And mention the new name and people who get photosensitive headaches or eyestrain would definitely benefit! I've been getting some bad ones lately from overtime and night driving :x

It would really help me a lot! I have a ton of migraines and the bright boards are really painful.

Yeah I've mentioned all of this in emails to them already. I tried really hard guys, but the last email I got said in no uncertain terms that it won't happen.

It seems there may still be a path forward for this. I misunderstood a couple of things. You'll hear about it if it gets opened up for discussion .
