That's 100% facts, he was definitely not my favorite, I get why he's like that, but yeah
Same with Perrin being a whiny birch

You're not wrong! That's why it seems like such a hard role to do well.

I liked the fact that he wasn't the most likable. In most straight up fantasy, the hero is some kind of James Bond/God. In WoT, Rand is just a guy trying to make it work. :love

Oh, agreed! It adds so much emotional depth that he’s just a guy trying to make it work (I love that description so much), but it’s really going to be interesting to see how they translate it to TV. Like, in the books, there is so much time to develop him as a character, and you’ve really become invested in him as a person by the time he gets super emo. But they’re not going to have that time in the show (presumably, at least…or maybe it will go for 25 seasons haha), so it’s going to be a really hard balance to strike, I think. Or maybe not—people really seemed to like Tony Soprano and Walter White, after all, and neither of those dudes was the prophesied savior of the world!

To be fair, Rand is actually pretty unlikable through most of the series (in my opinion, anyway)…like, I understand that he’s kind of going through A Lot, I have deep sympathy for him and am always pulling for him, but he’s really a giant bummer for pretty much eight solid books. :D
I hope they try to balance him out more, to be honest. But even when reading him, I had so much fun with Rand, even though I hate seeing him like he is.

I think if they're able to show some personal/private vulnerable moments, the kinds we see especially with Min in the books, that could help balance out the more public "ugh why are you like this?" moments.

Definitely agree. I can't believe the show premieres next month.

> What worries you the most about the changes to canon?

Matrim Cauthon is a very hard character to play, direct or write (as Brandon Sanderson himself found out). Just looking at the little glimpses from the photos or trailer I have rather low expectations that they'd be able to portrait well the roguish, immature, tactless trickster.

Ooo, salt! I’m good at salt!

I share pretty much the same concerns you’ve all shared. I need to explicitly echo that those rings are, imo, shockingly hideous. I have a hard time believing an organization of women would use an emblem that’s both that ugly and that impractical.

I have disliked every trailer I’ve seen so far, with the Winespring Inn one being the worst. It looks significantly over-acted and cheesy. I didn’t have high hopes for the series but that trailer pretty much killed dead the little hope I had managed to scrounge up. :\

Honestly, the more I see of the show the more I’m convinced this is going to feel more like Earthsea than like Game of Thrones. At this point, I’m mostly hoping the show doesn’t make everyone cringe when they see the books because of how bad it was. :\ I’m crossing my fingers that the people in charge of the trailers are just terrible at their jobs…but I’m not holding my breath.
