These books bring a lot of great memories, aren't they :) My absolute favourites are Anne of Green Gables, Heidi by Johanna Spyri, Winnie-the-Pooh, Seacrow Island by Astrid Lindgren.

I didn't read much during my childhood. But a book that my mom had to read to me over and over again was a story about a guy who sailed around the world (Rollo Gebhard).

Never heard of it. Is it some kind of adventure novel?

No it's more like an autobiography. The guy has written the book himself about what he experienced on his journey.

I loved anything by Enid Blyton, and also the Nancy Drew books and The Dana Girls. I also loved the classic girl books like Anne and Emily, and Little Women and all that. I also read the LotR first time when I was 11 years old, and kept re-reading it once a year for quite a long time. I read the Hobbit much later. :look As a teenager I devoured every Agatha Christie mystery I could find in the library.

The Enchanted Wood was my favourite Enid Blyton. And I loved Three Wishes and One More from Puddle Lane, but that was when I was really young.

Almost all of my favourites were related to Mythology..mainly Greek, a bit of Norse and Egyptian.I don't remember specific names, they were more like encyclopedias. Then Harry Potter came out and it became my favourite book.

I, too, read a lot of Nancy Drew, LotR, and tons of mythology/Arthurian books. I read a ton of horse-related books, like all of the ones in the Black Stallion series. I also read all the Sherlock Holmes stories and books.

I read a ton of books as a kid, even some children's literature! :look :p But, like other folks here, I also liked mythology, Tolkien, I was a huge fan of Watership Down (it's still one of my favourite books), of Michael Ende (Neverending Story and others), Winnie the Pooh, Alexandar Dumas (I'm not sure if it counts as children's or not), Robert Louis Stevenson, Jack London and all the adventure novels I could find. I actually read quite a lot of old kids' classics because I went by the recs of my Dad, who was born in '44 :D

Another Enid Blyton fan here, from Noddy as a small child up to Famous Five and others of that ilk.

I loved (and still do love) Tamora Pierce - it was probably my first foray into the fantasy genre.

I'd read just about anything to do with horses (Saddle Club, any Pullein-Thompson books, Flicka series etc etc). I also went through a spell of adoring the Sweet Valley <insert age> here books, and the Babysitters Club books :)

"The Trumpeter Swan" by E.B.White was my favorite book. I still have my copy; it's falling apart from how much I read it. :)
I also loved the Chronicles of Narnia series, "A Wrinkle in Time" and the others in that series, & "The Babysitters Club" books.

I loved the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series, the Black Stallion books (all 21 of them or whatever there were), and the Babysitters Club. For single books one of my favorites was (and still is) Number the Stars by Lois Lowry.

The winner of my childhood, hands down, was the Animorphs series. And, as an adult looking back, holy hell was that crap dark and terrifying...how is that for children?!?!
