I'd like to see the Alamo :D but also for the Texas peeps: what all is there to see historically and event wise in the different parts of Texas? I don't know much about the state except for some historical things and cattle drives haha

F1 has been the 3rd weekend of October the past 3 years, not sure what it will be next year. I can create a list of some things if someone doesn't beat me to it first. I do know that us Texas peeps have been talking about wanting to do it at Ren Faire for years though.

Only thing I'd avoid is the 1st and 2nd weekends in Austin because of ACL, which is awesome on it's own of course, but airfare and accommodations will probably be harder. I know typically we don't have FB that early.

There used to be a daily cattle drive, (we'd have to check) in Fort Worth; they also have Gilley's night club (think Urban Cowboy); Dallas has many great attractions: west of Dallas-Fort Worth is the Monahans Meteor Crater, where y'all just might find a pure, uncut diamond.
San Antonio offers the Alamo; a mission tour; the River Walk; the San Antonio Zoo; The Tower of the Americas (which is taller that the Space Needle!); the most haunted hotel in America (The Menger has 33 registered ghosts. They even wrote a book about it.); easy access - about an hour - from 6th street in Austin (bars as far as a drunk can crawl!) And Bandera, the Cowboy Capital of the World (just ask 'em, y'all. They're happy to tell you!).
Houston offers the Texas Ren Faire and several local attractions. There's Johnson Space Center (Houston, We have a problem!!); 19 museums!; Gator Country - the largest alligator adventure and sanctuary in South Texas, Y'all!; it's also not too far from Galveston Island. Louisiana is just a short drive east, if y'all have an urge to gamble on the bayou!

I've spent a little time in Texas, if y'all haven't already figured that out. (I was born just outside of San Antonio)

Light, I do miss home!!

Because you hate F1 so much, you want to be in Austin for FB just so you can ignore the race? :p

By which I guess I'm trying to say, having been to both a Fall Ball and many F1 races, the two are definitely mutually exclusive.

Somehow just saw this today :look:

I've always kind of wanted to visit Austin, too. Everyone says it's a wonderful city.

Dallas/Fort Worth would be easiest for me as I am practically incapable of driving more than an hour or two without pain. But I can fly to Austin apparently (just learned this!) and would love to visit there. I'm not sure I'm quite "in" yet, but it's definitely a possibility!

Jarl, I had family in the McKinney area for a long time, though they have all passed on at this point. So I spent a couple of very nice trips in that area when I was younger. But I've never been to the Austin area!

I'm all for Houston but Austin could tots work for me as well.
Its near our ranch and might be able to leave kids with inlaws there or something.

I should hopefully be able to go! Although they're at that weird distance where it's a long drive or a short flight. Maybe I can carpool with someone on the way if I drive so I don't fall asleep. :D

I am upset that I never knew you are a rancher.
