    Okay,

So who do you think Rand loves the most of his girlfriends? Or who loves him the most? I would have to answer that his true love is Min. He meets her first, before there is an inkling of his destiny and they were already attracted to each other. But more than that, she is the one that he constantly goes to when no one else understands, when he is in need of a friend and a partner. Min is the best woman for Rand, despite Elayne's mothering his children and Aviendha's destiny to give him children. Elayne and Rand fight more often than not, and really are apart for most of the stories. Aviendha and him, despite a few lustful encounters, really don't feel like there is as much between them. Rand mostly depends on and trusts Min. Min is the best woman for Rand and loves him for who he is more than the other women. Anyone else?:arch

This is cliche but true, I believe he loves them the same amount but in different ways. Fate brought him to Min first. Min spends the most time with and she helps bring him back to earth and remind him of the person he really is. He meets Elayne by accident, and falls in love with her first at the Stone, she helps him to be a good King, and has his first babies. He had to earn Aviendha's love, had to fight and chase her for it, and they were the first to make love. She teaches him to be strong.

All three women are different, he embraces that. Each is so different and complements him in the way he needs. I believe he feels differently for each one but the amount of love he has for each woman is the same.

I could be totally off though and Rand really has gone mad already, and those women are as bloody mad as he is :lol

this was stated really well. I have never thought about it too in depth before but i am inclined to agree with you.

I felt this way when reading the books.... he always trusted Min the most of anyone. He felt she didn't put any pressure on him or have unrealistic expectations. I agree absolutely.

I can't say I agree with you. Rand has spent more time Min, but I think I remember saying when they we're all together in Caemlyn that he doesn't love any one more than another (I have to look it up to be sure).

Also Rand has a very conversative outlook when it comes to marraige, he wanted to marry Aviendha right after their "encouter" in the snowstorm because to Rand it was the right thing to do. So I can't see Rand getting married to all 3 unless he loved them all equally. Rand wouldn't get married to one of them if he loved her less because to him it wouldn't be right.

He had to say he loved them all equally, you don't say anything else to those three :p
I think he loves them all the same, but is closest to Min. If he had to pick one to be married to I would bet on Min.

Ha! I agree with you there! However I don't think its in Rand's character to lie or not tell the whole truth about something that, or to follow through with a marraige unless he did equally love the three.

Absolutely agreed, Arecias. He loves all of them the same "amount," insofar as one can quantify love -- but he loves each of them differently. Min is his best friend, Elayne is the one he admires, Aviendha is the one who challenges him. They're all important qualities in love!

I feel exactly the same way. Thank you for putting it into words though.

I agree with this sentiment too, however. Though I am biased in this sense, because Min is my favourite of the girls. Yet, I agree that Elayne and Aviendha brought something to the table in the relationship.

Hmm, I thought Rand's conservative outlook on marriage made him more likely to marry out of a sense of obligation than out of love. We read time and again that Andorans have very conservative social customs and his intentions after the snowstorm 'encounter' would seem to suggest that marriage was the only morally acceptable decision after having 'marital' relations. I'm inclined to agree with dragon's left hand that Rand loves Min more than the other two, especially considering that he is content to leave them to their own devices for much of the series. Of course, that could also have something to do with the strength of Min's feelings for him: she's awfully hard to get rid of. Either way, it seems that the two of them have a stronger relationship than Rand does with Aviendha or Elayne.

EDIT: Oops! I just noticed when the previous post was made. Sorry for reviving a dead thread.

I always thought he loved min the most. Not sure what happens in aMoL though. He might say he loves them all, but whom did he fall in love with first? Who does he have the most in common with? Who spends the most time with him, and helps him the most?

I think that Rand loves them equally (but differently) or at least he thinks that he does. :p However, it's my opinion that Min has got to be his favorite to be around, simply because she's relaxing, low stress, low maintenance. Whereas Aviendha is constantly pushing him to be more Aiel, and Elayne is...Elayne. And Elayne is (imho) an incredibly stressful and emotionally immature person.

Early Min is definitely annoying the same way Faile is annoying - demanding, demeaning and likes to toy with emotions. But Min grows up in ways that I'm not sure Faile ever does. I really like Min in the later parts of the series (basically, once all the Herid Fel stuff starts), where as I didn't really like her in the beginning.

Elayne, to me, is just your typical high-maintenance woman. Which, most likely, is an intentional outcome of her upbringing. But none the less, she usually grates on my nerves after a while.

Avi has honestly always been my favorite of the three. For me, she wins over Min only because of the early-Min stuff I mentioned above. While Avi hasn't always been honest with herself or with Rand about everything, and she definitely has her quirks, she's never tried to manipulate Rand the way Elayne and Min did. Even when she (supposedly) hated him, she still defended him against the Wise Ones and stood up for him.

    Yeah, Avi's pretty awesome.

Min just bothers me because she has no life outside of Rand. Avi's (becoming) a Wise One, Elayne's got her Daughter-Heir/Queen stuff, and Min's... just kind of there. And she spends a lot of time focusing on how she'd do anything for Rand, even if it means changing who she is to a certain degree (though she lies to herself on that last score, think of how often she's frustrated with herself for wearing different clothes/shoes, doing her hair differently, etc) and she has no other goals or interests beyond him.

Elayne is very high-maintenance, I'll agree -- she's very proud and very headstrong, and she tries really hard to always present the "right" face to the world. She needs to learn that she doesn't always have to be the one doing the thing that needs to be accomplished -- delegation is a skill she hasn't learned very well yet. She takes a lot of responsibility onto herself, she's a peacemaker, and she cares very deeply for people she considers "hers". She's very sheltered, though. She's a good match for Rand's idealism, because she has had the practicalities of how to make those dreams for nations a reality trained into her, and she shares those same goals of making the world a better place.

I'm not sure how Elayne was manipulating Rand, El -- when was this?

I believe that would be her two contradictory letters. It was a major point through the middle books, with her asking Avi to remind Rand of the letters.

I don't think she meant that as manipulation, though -- she wasn't intending to deceive him with them, just confess her feelings (which she then got embarrassed about, not least because he never made his feelings clear to her, and wrote the second letter to tell him that she didn't intend to be walked all over just because she loves him). She's at fault for having poor communication skills, but very few characters aren't.

Yeah, I think maybe manipulation was too strong a word (I was doing a mini-rant in my head about Faile at the time, sorry). But, like Wil Gaidin said, the two letters. Meh, it's been too long since I've read the early books. There was some stuff during her Caemlyn arc. Some of it is understandable (like, not wanting to be seen as the Dragon Reborn's underling or conquered territory), but there was some stuff she did then that rubbed me the wrong way.

I suppose the two of them don't actually interact a whole lot throughout the books. She probably got the least amount of face time between the three women.

Also, I'm not a fan of her to begin with, so I think I'm inclined to judge her actions less favorably. I don't hate her with a fiery passion as some people seem to do, but she's a bit of a nitwit most of the time. I wish Birgitte would slap her around more, honestly.

Actually she prolly needs more the treatment that Mat gave to Joline( I think it was her) while they were in Luca's Menagerie. A good spanking :lol
