Discussion about Moiraine (Spoilers for Book 5 and onwards)

So, a little while ago I was reading The Fires of Heaven and then I got to the part where Lanfear and Moiraine both disappeared through the ter’angreal. Later on in the books multiple characters mention her supposed “death”, but I really do not believe Moiraine is dead, for one, since she has been quite an important character from the start of the books (most authors don't kill of main characters? ), and second because in the letter she wrote for Rand she wrote "I am gone" which technically doesn't have to mean "I'm dead".

I more believe she and Leanfear ended up in another of those sort of “parallel worlds”, like tel'aran'rhiod or so and will come back from it at some point later on? Though I’m now half through A crown of Swords and she hasn’t reappeared yet… But who knows, there’s still 7 more books to make a reappearance I guess .

Anyone else who had this thought while reading, or am I just being very suspicious of plot twists?

I first read FoH almost 30 years ago, so I don't remember well what I thought then, other than that I was upset Moiraine was gone. I *think* I had a suspicion about her fate, but again, it's very fuzzy. That said, overanalyzing anything an Aes Sedai write's isn't *necessarily* a bad idea. Keep reading and keep looking for clues! I'll be interested to see how your theory evolves over time!

All I will say is that these are good questions to be asking and that you will get an answer one way or another about Moiraine's and Lanfear's fates.

Be suspicious of all plot points that have more than one interpretation. Some of the seeds sown in the last two books you've read will bear glorious fruit throughout the whole story, and it's so entertaining to see them all appear!

Very late respone, but I had exactly the same thought!
I still haven't reached a point where she comes back (im on book 9), but I'm sure she will?? Because we saw Mat go into the ter'angreal in Rhuidean, and both Mat and Rand did with the one in Tear. So why would Rand assume that she was dead, and not ended up in the same/similar place that he did? It's never made any sense to me :P

I suppose Lan confirming they are no longer bonded is what Rand took as "she is dead". Which I believe I believed too after reading that scene.

Okay that makes sense. I guess I just don't want to believe she is gone so only focused on the things that made it seem that way, only seeing what I want to see haha
