Yes, I am reading Shadows of Self now, and it wouldn't make much sense if you hadn't read Alloy of Law first

I can actually confirm that, while a couple things might go over your head at first, you can absolutely make sense of Shadows of Self without having read Alloy of Law. But I suspect it can't be the first Mistborn book ever that you've read.

Although other hardcore Sanderson fans likely already know this, I just saw where the contents of the forthcoming Cosmere short story collection coming out this Fall is going to contain a map of the region of space the Cosmere covers, along with introductions from Khriss for each planet seen in stories so far!

I'm stunned we're being treated to something like that this early in the process, and I think I can safely say my excitement for the collection has just jumped up to 11.

Didn't it come up in the Way of Kings re-read thread that Sanderson's supposed to reveal a lot more about Hoid in future Stormlight books?

I've finished reading all of the published cosmere works, and now I really want more! I think it's really fun to find the hints of other worlds in the books, like Hoid popping up everywhere, or elements of other magic. And it's cool how at least some of the metallic principles from Scadrial apply in Roshar (like aluminum blocking investiture). And due to the order I read them in, there are definitely things I missed and have been pointed out, but those are still "OH!" moments and a lot of fun.

So, who else is completely caught up? What did you end up reading afterwards? Because now I have to figure that out myself.

Have you read his other works? I personally love the Steelheart trilogy.

Honestly the best thing to really internalize the nuances of the Cosmere stuff is to start poking around the 17th Shard's website, and their Sanderson wiki called The Coppermind. You can wander for hours to your heart's content to pick up all the subtle hints and clues you missed the first time around in any of the Cosmere books. They also have a collection of transcripts of all the questions asked at his signings and other appearances which helps a lot too.

I've looked at a few articles on there, but I had been mostly avoiding it because I didn't want to accidentally stumble upon any spoilers. That's a great idea to go check it out more fully now!

My parents asked me if I wanted anything for Christmas, so I just got a book 7 Mistborn The Lost Metal on pre-order for $25.

I hope Brandon feels special inside, that was the only thing I am getting for Christmas. lol
