Voice. Face time bonus w/the board *at some point in the process* is what I'm suggesting for this upper echelon of the overall site functionality, whether or not they apply for this posting. I should hope the Board would further consider making an annual effort to elicit this time/visible feedback in the future with all Dept Directors for ongoing status reports.

The Directors and Board have an Exec forum - where they talk, plan, plot and work. The Directors also have to submit reports (monthly or quarterly - I think it depends on the department). So there's a lot of interaction between the two. There's also gatherings at most of the RL events, and Admin meeting - where it's not uncommon to skype folks in who cannot attend. In short - there's a lot of communication (which is awesome).

As for the Directors getting a Voice on the new CEO? Likely not necessary. Purely a guess - but if you look at our long standing members - many very promising candidates would not have qualified with the restriction of needing service in Membership. There's a Director or three who have never been admins, and several former Directors who have been admins, but never worked in Membership, etc. Delimiting the pool helps bring in stronger candidates in this case.

I'm pretty sure every Admin, Exec, and member has an idea of what/who they'd like to see as our new CEO. I don't envy our Board - they're gonna have a difficult decision to make! I don't think the added voices of the Directors would end up helping in that case.

I'm for the strongest candidates AND the strongest departments. A preview of each department's situation prior to such a site renovation might not be amiss in this particular situation before the transfer of the stole occurs. 9 voices to the Board & Keeper could be tremendously beneficial to those who will be charged most with installation of The Chosen :mother.

Keep in mind that the Directors report to the Keeper, not the Amyrlin.

This, frankly, isn't a major site renovation. Yes, there will be an impact - but I personally don't feel we're going to see a huge overhaul in how the site runs. I also have every faith that our Board (Eleyan, Riley and Dralyn) know what they'redoing, and will solicit advice if/as they need.

Yeah, I have to admit that I'm not entirely sure what you'd be looking for, Morrighan. The Board, the Officers, and the Directors are pretty well informed about what's going on with one another. I'm not entirely sure why having the Directors talk to the Board about their Department before a new CEO is chosen would be useful or beneficial. We already have a good feel for what the state of each Department is, and the balance of those will be taken into account when we make our choice. We're in regular contact with the Directors, and they're usually pretty upfront and open with us.

Also, we just had our annual Administrative meeting. The Directors who couldn't be there elected a representative to present their department items.

Morrighan, I think I know what you're getting at, and while we may not be soliciting formal input from the directors, per se, we would be idiots to not consider how they would be affected by our choices. And much of what you're describing is part of what is already in place as far as reporting and communication goes. While part of a different discussion, really, I will say that you are bringing up something that is fairly common, that being that most members have no earthly idea what it is that folks in the Administration do, and how we do it. I am very happy to report, though, that we are taking steps to change this.
