Yikes! That's a lot of snow. Stay safe.
So, how structured to people want this? How'd the timeline/structure of the cape sew along work for everyone? Do you want more structure, less?
I think similar to the cape would be good. We can always speed up or slow down if needed.
What supplies do you need to make a shawl? And are there patterns to follow? Also is it better to use a machine or not to use a machine?
I know Roh is working on details, but I can give you some basics. Fabric (most people use your Ajah color for the outside and a contrasting pattern on the inside). I'd like to guess about amount, but I'm honestly terrible at guessing this type of thing, so I always just over-buy and have leftovers. Fringe in Ajah color, a bit to make the flame, possibly some bias tape (but not likely), and thread. I personally don't really understand why anyone would want to hand sew, but I know lots of people love it and do it regularly, machine or no machine should work just fine.
Ok thank you. That's really helped.
Just wondering if this is still happening or is it over? *looks at shawl-less shoulders*
It's still coming!!
Sorry about the delay on this one everyone, life ate me for a while and my phone acted up for a while so I was unable to get any of the pictures I needed to finish putting this together. I'm almost there, so keep an eye out for this soon!
That being said, we're looking at something like this for the schedule, how does this sound for everyone? Do you need more time for anything?
Discussion on shawl shape and Material Discussion and Fringe options: These will be different sections but given that they are all related to the decisions you need to make for this, I'm thinking they will be posted different days within the same week.
Measuring and Mathing (a week for this section as we figure out how much fabric you will need)
Cutting (We'll probably take a few days for this and it will be at least a week after the measuring so you have the time to get your fabric. Do you think you'll need more than a week, maybe two?)
The Flame & attaching it (a week)
Sewing up the shawl + fringe (a week)
After that, it's pretty much taking pictures of what you made and showing off!
I'll give at least a week from when I'm ready to post as a sign-up period, so keep your eyes open in the near future for this. And again, I'm sorry for the delay.
This sounds like fun.
@Roheryn ni Galghandhrei t'al'Djinn Sedai - I will have to look back at the cape sew along... always wanted to make one!
I should follow this, I have been thinking about making a more "everyday" kind of shawl that I will feel better about dragging to Ren Faires. Looking forward to the class!
