Greetings TarValon.Net members,

As the Director of Community Outreach I have a number of fun and exciting duties from processing and awarding the Robert Jordan Memorial Scholarship to coordinating Outreach and Philanthropic aspects of our real life events. Today, right here and now, I will be announcing one of our largest efforts for the year- our Annual Summer Fundraiser.

This post is going to give you a lot of information, so run to the kitchen now to grab a snack and settle in- this post will be full of useful information that you will want to know so get ready to do a little reading.

First, before I give you all the juicy details and information on how you can donate though, I want to share with you all some information on why we hold an Annual Fundraiser and what expenses this community incurs. Our annual operational expenses are not insignificant, for example:
  • In 2013 to keep TarValon.Net online our server, hosting, and vBulliten charges total up to over $1,000 USD.
  • In 2013 we are spending well over $2,000 USD on various Membership Services, including awarding prizes and sending gifts to members at major life events.
  • Our annual awarding of the Robert Jordan Memorial Scholarship for 2013 is, as you probably know $500 UDS.
  • We have expenses totaling in the range of another $500 USD for legal and tax services to ensure our 501(c)7 tax status is maintained.
  • In addition to all of this we have our Real-Life Events like the upcoming Euro Party and Fall Ball that will follow shortly after- although these events are largely self-sustaining having a positive balance in our accounts with which to put down deposits to really awesome locations early on is important.
  • Finally, we do still have significant debts that we are working on and making exceptional progress on.

I hope that these real, honest, and frank numbers give you some ideas about where donated funds will go and why it is so imperative that we hold our Annual Summer Fundraiser.

Without members like you, giving year after year to keep this community alive, we’d not be here. I was humbled by the outpouring of financial support last winter with the Tower Still Stands Fundraiser and I am excited now to offer everyone the opportunity to donate again or for the first time. I also want to say that all donations are deeply appreciated and that we are all- as an administration and as members of the best community of the world wide web- thankful for any and all donations! No amount is too small- and they are all critical to keeping our services going and our membership's free.

Keep reading- essential information follows!

GOALS:
This is our big fundraising push for the year and we’ve set the goal at $4,500 USD- a lofty goal that I am positive this community can make! In addition we are hoping to keep part of this goal, for the first time ever, in a currency that is not US Dollar- we are hoping this year to raise €750 and keep it in Euros earmarked for European expenses! This unprecedented action will also save TarValon.Net, Inc. and its members currency exchange fees- so European members, you will be able to donate in Euros for membership services and events specifically in Europe!

This Fundraiser will be running from today, July 22[SUP]nd[/SUP] 2013 to August 24[SUP]th[/SUP], 2013.

Prizes:
Yes ladies and gentlemen of TarValon.Net, with this our Annual Summer Fundraiser we will be offering a number of exceptional prizes for our donors- as well as a fantastic event-based prize for all of our members.

All members, you are encouraged to take a peek here and show your support in a little civil unrest that is brewing in the City in support of sweet or savory- Bacon versus Chocolate- and participate as the madness unfolds!

Individual prizes, as is tradition we will also be offering individual prizes to our donors.
  • All donors of $5 or more will receive a leaf on our Avendesora Giving Tree- or an upgrade in color for members who have been donating for the past several years!
All donations over $10 will be entered into a drawing for further prizes, as follows:

Donation Prize Levels

Donate $10+
  • Entered into a drawing for a $20 Winners Choice Gift Certificate.
  • Five donors will be selected for these $20 Gift Certificates!
Donate $25+

  • Three donors will be selected for these $50 Gift Certificates.

  • Entered into a drawing for our Grand Prize! One lucky donor will win a copy of A Memory of Light signed by Team Jordan!!!

Drawings.
  • All drawings will be conducted after the completion of the 2013 Annual Summer Fundraiser and will be done using a random number generator that I just happen to have on my phone!
  • Drawing for the Grand Prize will be held first, followed by the $25+ level drawings, and the $10+ level drawing will be conducted last.
  • All non-winners from one drawing will be entered into subsequent drawings for gift certificates.

Winners Choice Gift Certificate
What exactly do I mean by Winners Choice you ask? This year our winners will have their choice between a Badali Gift Certificate, a Taveren Tee’s Gift Certificate, an iTunes Gift Certificate, or a Gift Certificate for their local Amazon! Winners will be able to get cool fashion, great jewelry, new music, classic books for their collection, or just about anything this year!

HOW TO DONATE:
By now I am sure everyone is visiting their monthly budgets to make a few adjustments- divert funds from a dinner out and eat at home instead, making a choice between a pair of jeans and sending in a donation to TarValon.Net, Inc., or even just dusting off that old coffee maker and getting your caffeine fix at home for the month. So how to you get those diverted funds to TarValon.Net you ask? Well let me give you all a few options:

Paypal. Use the following instructions to send your donation to us via PayPal.
  • Ensure to send funds to our account: PAYABLE@TarValon.Net.
  • In the Notes section ensure that you include the following information:
    • Your Tower Name
    • Indicate that this is a “donation for the summer fundraiser” so that we don’t apply it to the wrong place, like a Fall Ball registration.
    • State if you are donating in support of the CIA (Chocolate Illuminati of Awesome) or the FBI (Federation of Bacon Indulgence) or remaining neutral
  • Keep an eye out for your donation options to try to minimize PayPal Fee’s!

Cheque. Members that would prefer to send in cheques for their donation are encouraged to do so, and we have a few tips to ensure your cheques are applied correctly as well.
  • Include your Full Tower Name
  • Indicate that this is a “donation for the summer fundraiser” so that we don’t apply it to the wrong place, like a Fall Ball registration.
  • State if you are donating in support of the CIA (Chocolate Illuminati of Awesome) or the FBI (Federation of Bacon Indulgence) or remaining neutral.

Mail Cheques to:
TarValon.Net, Inc
c/o Kristen Bowersox
5525 E. Monument Drive
Castle Rock, CO. 80104

Anonymously. Members who would like to donate anonymously may do so, please just indicate in the notes section of either your paypal or cheque that this is an “anonymous donation to the Annual Fundraiser”. Please note that when donating anonymously you may still opt to support the CIA (Chocolate Illuminati of Awesome) of the FBI (Federation of Bacon Indulgence) but that you will be waiving your entry into drawings for prizes.

Weekly Updates
will be posted sharing the totals, and who is winning out: Bacon or Chocolate, so lets fill this meter!!

So as you also may have noticed there are some strange things happening around TarValon.Net, and especially down at Tarlomen's Bridge. This year our annual fundraiser will also be a grudge match to determine what is better: bacon or chocolate!!! We have some factions started and the debauchery has begun- but now is the time to outline a few ground rules.

  • RP is okay at this time in the Tarlomen's Bridge forum.

  • Light RP in relation to the Bacon Versus Chocolate grudge-match will also be allowed in the Frivolous Fun, Olde Warder and Hen and the Apartments forums.
  • You may side with Bacon, you may side with chocolate, you may pull off a Severus Snape like double agent role. You may also opt out and declare yourself neutral or "Safe in the Tower" for the duration of the event. (To keep yourself from being wrapped in bacon or dunked in chocolate 'n such).

  • You may remain neutral and still donate to the Annual Fundraiser for either Bacon or Chocolate, all in secret of course.
  • Each week, the side with the donation lead will take an advantage in the prank-war and civil unrest unfolding in the Tarlomen's Bridge forum
  • Have fun and play nice.
    • Pranks are fine- citizens my prank SM's and the works- but all pranking should be done in a friendly nature.
    • Do not prank members who are not participating, they are the only ones off limits.
  • Enjoy!
  • Additional rules regarding RP and Pranking will be posted in the Tarlomen's forum shortly by my lovely Community Care Coordinator, Arie! If you are participating- please ensure to read and respond to this thread!

I have, and it was amazing! How is a girl to choose? D:

We don't have to choose! Who says we can't have both!?

They want to separate our City into violent camps against one another, saying if we aren't for one we are against it. They seek to pit us against our brothers and sisters over illusionary choice of cocoa or pork.

Well, I say, [strike]give peace a chance[/strike] eat all of the bacon AND chocolate! Destroy both camps! LET SALTY CHOCOLATE ANARCHY RULE!!

These are all really pretty words but they don't *mean* anything. If wanting to be truly transparent, you offer as a... I dunno, maybe a supplemental PDF or something, the exact numbers of the exact epxenses. It's something that's always kind of troubled me, here, that those numbers are not made available.

Cea, Lenore... the numbers are pretty well there.

"Up to over $1,000 USD" means to me $1000 - 1200.
"Well over $2,000 USD" could be mid-200s, $2400-2600.
"In the range of $500 USD" -- $450 - $550.

"Significant debts" is the only thing that's vague - but maybe for a reason?

Would anything but exact numbers prevent you from agreeing that the donations are needed to keep the site operating?
