Our local liason, Barmacral Tigana, has this to say about his hometown:
"The largest city in northern Sweden, Umeå is known as the City of Birches, having had many of them planted after the town burned down in 1888.
Europe's capital of culture in 2014 consists of multiple museums ranging from regional history to skis to guitars, an impressive sculpture garden, plenty of outdoor parks along with an active water front and a thriving downtown. Umeå is a small city, with only 120 000 residents, but the public transportation is excellent and the local food and drinks scene benefits from a northern touch.
Located just a short jaunt from the Bay of Bothnia and a little north of the High Coast Umeå is surrounded by nature, and far enough north that if the sun plays nice, we could even see the Northern Lights."
This will be a tourist style event. Dates and other details will be forthcoming.
