As an outwardly genderqueer person with bright pink hair, the idea of going into the American South makes me very nervous... :look:

You'll be okay in Chattanooga. It's a pretty nice city like that.

I'm seriously considering this, especially since it's relatively close to where I grew up. I'll gladly help out if issues arise, Anu, but I don't think it will be necessary :hug

I'm going to have to figure this one out... don't want to miss this... but money has been a struggle the past 6 months.

Chattanooga's in the South, but the city itself leans way more liberal than the surrounding areas. We also have anime conventions and SCA gatherings and any number of geek-centric things that happen in/around the area. Locals are used to all kinds flocking in. You'll be fine. :)

I'm super excited about this event! We haven't had a non-West-Coast Anni in a few years. Chattanooga has added (within the past year) several additional direct flights that have made travel by plane more expedient. Last I checked, NYC and Washington, D.C. direct flights were added. And weirdly enough, Boston is the cheapest place to fly whenever I check rates. :brown-blink:

Yay, Anni!
Yay super short commute for moi! :giggle

I'm already looking at how I could make this a holiday for a few extra days, since I travel from overseas.

You're in Queer Eye country over there. You should be fine. Besides, you won't be alone :)

@Anujun Trahearn I'll echo what Erin and Ty have both said. I know many people may fear that all of the South and Tennessee in particular are raving homophobes, randomly wandering the countryside bible in hand and maga hat on our heads, ready to beat down anyone who isn't straight, Christian, & republican...but I can assure you it isn't like that here in most places. Also, the city areas of the state tend to lean much more liberal and are much more tolerant than our reputation might suggest. Chattanooga is a college town also, so there are people from all over the country there. I promise things will be fine.

From what others have said, it doesn't seem like you'll have any problems. But if anyone does give you grief, you know we've all got your back, and they'll have to deal with an angry nerd mob.

I'll have to see what it costs, but Chattanooga is doable!
