I was very confused initially when I saw avatars starting to change. But I think I saw something about the freeweek in either the classroom or the members manual. But thanks for confirming that Shaoman is currently underway.

Last time I was here I felt like I just wanted to advance as soon as possible. Which I think is part of the reason, aside from the RL monster, that I fell away from the site. This time I'm trying to approach things a little differently and focus more on getting to know people and, hopefully, make some friends. That being said, citizenship should be soon.

Thanks again to all the new greeting and welcomes. I also remember some familiar names. I have already stepped foot into the gaming thread, and it's been a pretty good experience so far fumbling my way through the site.

In German Tower I am Senior Member since years, and I made my way up very quickly there. (Some things here are similar/some different).
But it is my second time beeing a novice. But my first time in this community.
As I haven't read the last book yet, I have to go slow. But I wouldn't want to rush up anyway, this time.

I have a couple of books on my list of things to read before starting the WoT again. I'm still debating if I want to knock out Harry Potter before restarting the series. If so then it will definitely be a while before I advance in the ranks. Otherwise I should be diving back in probably by spring next year. I'm excited to see how the series is since I've read that it is amazing upon rereading.

You were just raised Soldier before San Diego Comic Con in 2005; given the waiting periods for Recruit and Soldier, I'd guess you joined in 2004.

Thanks for the welcome. There were a couple of factors Enya Sedai, First a lot of the friends that I had met through the military and in college have all moved away to different locations or become involved in serious relationships, so my core group of friends had dwindled to only a couple of people. I felt like the friendships here, being more intangible, would hopefully be more lasting and less reliant on proximity.

Additionally, now that I had a daughter, I don't really have as much free time to play online games where I had made friends before, and they cost money which I typically have to spend on adult things now (pesky mortgage).

Finally the last thing that kind of put me over the edge was one night when I was finishing up A Dance with Dragons and just thinking that I would rather be reading the WoT. So I mentioned that thought process to Kitan Sedia, to which she said reread it then. I then figured that if I was going to put in the time rereading the series, I should probably check back in with an awesome community that also really likes it. And then I found my way back here.

Unfortunately for remembering purposes, my avatar is new. All I remember was that it was in black and white and probably looked like I could have been fronting a metal band. I tried briefly to locate a copy of it, but it seems that several new computers and hard drive crashes have caused it to be lost to wind.

RL has been a little bit of a mad house as of late and it's nice to have someplace stable to visit for a bit.

The nice thing is that once you get there it's a pretty quick read.

I like board games that are capable of being played solo since my wife mostly tolerates them for me.

For an actual list: I like the more sprawling, epic games like Mage Knight and Arkham Horror. For lighter fare I enjoy Flashpoint and Takenoko. When there's bigger groups, I also like the social deduction games like Deception, Bang!, and Resistance.

You should try Dead of Winter. I think you'd love it. It's a zombie apocalypse game where you're part of a group of people trying to survive...but there MAY be a betrayer among you.
