Adina, a friend of mine made a shorter unlined version out of two pashminas, so it's very light! https://www.instagram.com/p/B_bAhp1AePf/ It reads more fantasy that way, because adorbs wee fantasy cape hoodie thingy!
Just a reminder we start scaling up the pattern tomorrow! How is material gathering going for everyone?
I might have just ordered blue and gray wool so that I can participate I will likely handsew it all, though, so I may be slow.
Someone I know offered to let me use her sewing machine but having to take stuff back and forth to someone else's place sounds annoying.
So how are y'all doing and what step are you up to? Materials arrived in the mail? Working on fitting? Is there anything we can help with? Obviously the past week has been a CLUSTERFUCK of epic proportions. Sewing is my happy calming space, but that might not be the case for everyone
Unfortunately my life totally upended with an extremely busy nonstop semester and a new boyfriend. I am going to TRY my hardest to allocate sewing time this week, but every week there are still so many assignments due. It never ends.
Once I got the pattern sizing issues figured out, it turns out the shawls I was going to use are too small. I need to look online for something different.
Looking for anything in particular? I enjoy nothing more than looking at fabric online (not allowed to buy any for myself right now, so it's best if I look for other people )
I ordered this, but it is about two inches too narrow even if I did no seam allowance. I was going for a low key PotterBound (is that a thing?) Beauxbatons cape, since I have the hat and would need something light weight. Spoiler
For two inches, I would either piece it or just make it narrower at the bottom so it fits. You can get a lot of space out of a narrower seam allowance as well.
Yes, I was thinking I could maybe just take a couple of inches off the bottom of the whole pattern as I am feeling lazy/anxious about shopping. The mockup covered my hands anyway, so I don't think losing a few inches would look strange. The other option is I could make the back two pieces instead of cutting on the fold. It wouldn't swirl as nicely maybe, however I don't think a seam right up the back would ruin the design either... I may just go for it, somehow.
Approaching the final step! Even if you haven't started yet, you aren't infinitely behind. Any open questions? Motivational kitten pictures needed?
