Im putting this here even though I haven't read all the books because im afraid certain answers will SPOIL stuff for others. I myself don't mind spoilers.

I read about BOTH of these groups in book four and on WoT wiki,,,
One is snakish and the other foxish? Does anyone know of a good artists conception of either? :)

also I JUST made a connection that Im sure others already have made. That the prohibitions against bringing IRON in with you probably are based off of Old Fairy lore since Fairies do not like Cold iron because it can hurt them? But are there other such tales in our Real World where Instruments and light would hurt Fairies? and Are Fairies the inspiration that Jordan was working with in regards to these creatures , do you think? Or am I on the wrong track?

Instruments charm them not hurt them, and I think that is true too (not sure, have to look it up) :look:

As for the artist conceptions, I saw a PERFECT Eelfinn at the con, she actually won the costume contest first place :pleased-1: I couldn't find the pic when I looked and I didn't take one :grumble but I will show you as soon as I can :)

I found this link that talks a little about where certain aspects of their story comes from (with regards to real world mythology).

http://13depository.blogspot.com/2002/03/aelfinn-and-eelfinn.html

I'd scroll down to the bottom where it starts talking about names if you want to avoid any major spoilers. The names part is where it starts talking about real world mythologies, anyway. But, just as a heads up, even in the names part there are some pretty big spoilers for the later books.

I also found this: http://wot.wikia.com/wiki/Finn#Parallel

ROCKIN!!! I don't know why but the two parts ive read where mat goes through the door frames are some of my favorite parts in the series. :) I Just see the Aelfinn as snakes with no scales and pointed ears I guess?
but I am having a helluva time imagining a humanoid that looks fox like WITHOUT being hairy or having a snout! hahahah

Thank you EL, That was a great article!

Not gonna lie, the head shot is kind of creepy. The blinding flash doesn't help much.

I believe that the Eelfinn are representative of the Kitsune in Japanese folklore. I have seen pictures of kitsune in the Pathfinder RPG and they are pretty close to what I imagined the Eelfinn look like.

I imagine the Aelfinn are more like dark elves because they make death their payment if none is previously agreed on. The Eelfinn to be wood elves because they answer questions honestly and did not try to hurt Mat until he broke into their tower.
