Upun finishing WoT I was left with a void in my life. I needed a good series to read. I picked up A Game of Thrones and am about halfway through book 2 right now and I have enjoyed it tremendously. Any other Martin fans out there??

I got to 112, but only by accident :p If there is more than one character with a certain first name it gives you all of them, or if you are spelling out a longer name and there is another character with a shorter version they give it to you. So, yeah, I probably got less than 100 on my own

There are a LOT on this site :) I believe there are at least 3 other threads too where folks are discussing the series :)

I'm halfway through reading the first book, and I must admit that I am finding it a struggle partly because of time constraints but partly because I only have a few favourite characters and unlike WoT I find myself speed-reading through chapters of characters I am not a fan of.

I am fully caught up with the TV series and I find it fascinating how much more character development there is in the books (it makes sense of course). However, something I found quite interesting is that George R.R.Martin said that the television series is his way of correcting everything he would have liked to change in the books if he had written them now.

The book is good so far, I am surprised at little use of language. Other than that, it sounds good.

Er. If you're offended by the language... you *might* not really want to continue the rest of the books. They're not exactly your run of the mill fantasy novels, and the swearing is honestly one of the least offensive things in the book.

Not that I'm saying they're bad books. I enjoyed them a lot. But, well, if the swearing puts you off, you're gonna run into more problems down the line.

Off topic, but "Arya" was the most popular name for baby girls born in the U.S. in 2012 :giggle

Edit: Fastest growing name in popularity

Hah. That's hilarious. My brother's name is Aria. Wonder how he feels about that. (he's turning 18 this year)

Yeah, it was the fastest rising name on the list, but the top name is still Sophia. Arya may have even been more popular if they accounted for that spelling and the Aria spelling. My friend has a daughter almost 2 named Aria :)

Since the other SoIaF thread is more about parenting I thought I'd post here:

If we think of parallels to RL, House Stark in the North seems to be like House York. And House Lannister sounds similar to House Lancaster. So will there be a House like Tudor that wins? Or like Henry VII, will a marraige pretty much end the war?

Absolutely! I believe when Martin was interviewed he readily admitted using real York/Lancaster Histoy as a BASIS for the books to Some extent! Which I thouight was super rad! NOW..if the old bastard would just WRITE!!! WRITE GEORGE! WRITE!!!!! before u DIE!!!!!
