I found my sponsors in very different places. I met Kelgan Gaidin via CE and Nymala Sedai via Frivolous Fun. As we all do, we post in certain forums a lot, and others we don't.

Chat is definitely the place to meet EVERYONE.

Rae does make a point that's worth keeping in mind though.

Bah, sponsors tend to come naturally as with conversation - so I've found. I don't mind sponsoring people although typically its because i've known them for years prior to them joining the site. Maybe that's a fault of my own for not posting in general. But depsite being Gray I lack a level of spamming that seems to go with the territory. Perish the thought! XD

And I do agree with what you're saying... like I said before, sometimes I don't feel I have a lot in common with some so the tavern threads tend to be more general and just poking fun and being silly. That is kind of a defense or something I guess.

Kiana Sedai I totally get what you're saying too... Tar Valon is still very new and shiny to me... maybe later on in my membership I'll relax. Maybe.

I've tried making an effort to get more active- I'm more active in the health and fitness forum, and in CE, of course, and now I ventured into General even :eek

I'm on a record, two days in a row of posting outside of Brown. Like people said, we all go through phases, and RL events (like Anni!) tends to bring people out of hiding for a little while. It is fun to come out occasionally!

Rae, I think part of the "problem" is that SMs have access to an almost overwhelming number of forums. It can be a bit daunting for me sometimes, so I just kind of stick to where I'm comfortable. That, or SM-hood is a license for becoming a hermit.

There are some SM's such as myself, that are honestly a little intimidated buy the sheer numbers of JMs. For those of us that have been around a while, there are more active Novices today than the entire active membership back in the day. There as SM's that i've never even heard of. And this is, in part, due to staying in the private forums, but the numbers alone make it hard to follow.

But please, if you see a SM around that does not post much, and you want to get to know them better, send them a PM.

I generally don't have much to say.
A lot of the threads seem very spammy, discuss things that I don't know about, or involve people I don't know. I know that I'm not really good with the whole 'talking to new people' thing ... or with the whole 'talking to people' thing in general. I also find it to be worse online than in RL (I think I'm one of the odd ones that prefers RL interactions). Personally, I've tried to post in the Brown threads in Tavern and Hallways to be less of a hermit, but still be in some kind of comfort zone because the thread has structure.

One way to bring the lurkers out of the woodwork is to start threads about stuff that interests you. I know that if someone posts about science stuff, I'm all excited about it (like a proper Brown who's passionate about her research). Obviously, that won't work for people who don't check the forum in question, but it could get a few people to post!

OH! speaking of being more active ( and this is totally a subject change of sorts! but i know you will all have good advice for me!) I would like permission to post in the Current events threads! BUT i only have access to my WORK computer, we do NOT use OUTLOOK for mail ( which is what i need i believe to mail and ask permission?) , and they forbid me to install anything at work..

Am i just outta luck? :P
