5 years ago today...

The last book in the ever-loving Wheel of Time series was released. This was a long anticipated but also a slightly dreaded day for a lot of people.

What is your story? Where were you? How fast did you finish the book? What did you do to celebrate this great day? Tell me your story

I remember being both very excited and very sad. I would finally get to know the end, after all of those years! But the flip side was that it was ending I read it in the space of a couple of days. To be honest, I regret reading it so quickly, and not refreshing myself with re-reads of the previous books prior. However, I'm currently working to fix that, and I'm almost done with my re-read of the series

I agree with that feeling Dovi I was exited to FINALLY getting the ending, but then it would be the ending, and no more anticipation

Enya and myself actually dressed as Aes Sedai in dress and the Shawl and stood waiting outside the bookstore when it opened to buy the book Sadly, no one else was around to see it, other than the guy who worked in the store

I then spent the next day or two reading. I was visiting Enya, and we both spent almost the whole day reading. Including while cooking and eating

I think it took me two days to finish it. I had planned it out. I had my kids at my mother-in-law's place, so no distractions. I was excited, cause I had been waiting since I was 12 to find out what happened and I was 27, so I really wanted to know! On the other hand, this was my first fantasy and I was so sad that this was the end, especially since if RJ hadn't died, it wouldn't have been the end, since there would have been two more prequels and the outriggers. I was also worried, cause what if I hated it!?! I didn't but it was very overwhelming to open the box from Amazon and hold it for the first time.

I had preordered the book at Barnes & Noble, but I got too excited when I saw my friends buying it a day early at Walmart, so I ended up buying it there.

January 2013 was a busy year for me. A lot changed. I remember late in the month, I took my friend to get a procedure done. I didn't know how long it would take, so I sat down and read the book. I read about 200 pages of it...for me, that's a lot, and a long time. I also visited my friend and her newborn that day, because they were in the same hospital. I did a lot of growing up that month, I suppose.

I don't remember how long it took me to read, though.

I loved it, and I still love it.

I was so excited, it's the only book I have in the series that isn't paperback; I refused to wait.

Themat said, I read about 5 chapters and stopped. It was Too Sad™. If I actually read and finished this book... that's it. The end. It's over.

I literally put it away for a year. I did eventually finish it, but it was quite difficult.

I understand that feeling. I felt the same with Wheel of Time and Harry Potter...no more after this...I don't want it to be over.

I'm glad I finished both, though. They weren't without mistakes and things I wish had been different, but they were perfect for what they were.

I always remember what day the book came out because it was the same day my grandfather died. He and I were estranged, so it's not like a super terrible memory to think back on, but it was really nice at the time to have that escape from all the conflicted emotions I was dealing with.
