The 2020 Hugo Awards were announced last night! I stayed up and watched the livestream, which ran from 1 am to almost 5 am over here - fun times. Anyway, here are the winners of the written categories this year:

Best Novel: A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine
Best Novella: This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone
Best Novelette: Emergency Skin by N.K. Jemisin
Best Short Story: As The Last I May Know by S.L. Huang (free online at link)
Best Series: The Expanse by James S.A. Corey
Best Graphic Novel: LaGuardia by Nnedi Orokafor and Tana Ford
    Best Semiprozine: Uncanny Magazine
    Best Fanzine: The Book Smugglers
Lodestar Award for Best Young Adult Book: Catfishing on CatNet by Naomi Kritzer
Astounding Award for Best New Science Fiction Writer: R.F. Kuang

For a full list of winners, see Tor.com's article.

Have you read any of these? Did you like them? Did you hope for other winners? Was that @Dareth d'Rahien I saw in the livestream chat early in the evening? :shifty

I'm personally over the moon about Martine's win for Best Novel. AMCE was my favourite book of last year, hands down, and I was amazed to find out that it's her debut novel. I'm happy with Huang's Short Story win as well, as well as Jeannette Ng's win in the Related Works category (not linked here as it's a speech instead of a written work, but you should go watch it).

I know I saw Kuang's Poppy War series on a list of "best sci-fi fantasy of the 2010s" (which Jemisin's Broken Earth trilogy was #1 on, and can't really argue with that). And apparently she was born just up the line in Guangzhou. :) I wanna check her out more now

FWIW I loved the Poppy War, @Cursor Wrathwind , although there are some pretty intensely violent chapters.
