About the flies in Salidar, Aes Sedai has a ward against them.

I think Halima tried to make Mat like her or something? So he would tell her stuff she wanted to know etc? :cheeseeni:

I agree with Merana that what Alanna did could be a sort of rape :indifferent:

But what is strange for me is why she didn't release his Bond earlier, as soon as she was captured, or even sooner... She learned very quickly just how non-effective it was in controlling him :indifferent:

-Tylin holds the 'Throne of the Winds'. Is it just coincidence that the Bowl of the Winds is also in Ebou Dar?

I think it is just the Kin gathering up lots of items of the power, though I do wonder if the captain of the gaurd in Ebou Dar is called The Knight of the Wind

Good thing the medallion blocks saidin, too. I wonder what Halima was trying to do.

This makes the lanfear fight a complete headbanger for me, how did Rand keep Mat out of the fight? and how did Mat not walk up to lanfear and replace her spine with his Ashandari.

Or at least smack her in the back of the head with it and KO her.

OH. Do you think the Blues were keeping the rats out of Tar Valon? And that's why rats invaded when the Tower broke? I never thought of it like that before. (They have their insect calling/repelling weave...maybe they have a rat one?)

Didn't Rand create a wall using saidin? Since the weave wasn't directed at Mat, maybe that's why it didn't dissolve?

Didn't Rand make a big dome that kept people out of the battle? I can't remember whether Mat was inside or outside the dome.

Chapter 54
Of course it's the public display of affection that bothers the Aiel, not the nudity.
Rhuarc has to balance Rand's immediate need with the longer term problems of the Shaido and the bleakness.
Refugees brought stories of men who became wolves to the Two Rivers -- evidence of more Wolfbrothers.
What's the garlic thing about?
When Perrin told the wolves that Shadowkiller (Rand), was taken, they all howl. Goosebumps!
And then: "We come." From many wolves, whom Perrin had talked to and not. Several hundred come to Perrin.
Loial clues Perrin in that there are probably more than 6 Aes Sedai.
Nandera and Sulin -- Sulin just had to make the point that she was as good as Nandera, and they have an understanding.

Chapter 55
Rand is in the one wagon with no cover.
Gawyn won't hurt Rand directly, but he won't raise a hand to help him either.
No one hesitates to follow Perrin in a rescue attempt, despite knowing the true numbers. Of course, if Perrin believes Min as much as it seems, h knows Rand will need him again and they'll both live through this.
Perrin didn't know Aes Sedai have to be in danger to use the Power against people.
How'd the Asha'man know to come?

Finally caught up on my notes! :joy

Chapter 49:

-Bera and Kiruna were supposed to go to the Waste, but end up in Caemlyn. Min is confused.
-She sees a yellow/purple aura around the two of them and it makes her gasp.
-I like Mahiro, Min's Warder friend. :) And that's nice that Min wrote to him to say goodbye.
-Alanna tried to compel Rand with the bond, but it didn't work. That makes what she did to him even worse! :indifferent: Not only did she want a connection to him, but she planned to actually control him with the bond! :mad I assume it's because he can channel?

Chapter 50:
-Harid Fel discovers that you need to break the seals. And he thinks Min is too distracting.
-Rand tells Berelain that Elayne will be grateful for what she does. Min sniffs loudly. Presumably because she knows Elayne is unhappy with Rand's plans about handing Andor over to her.
-Min sees a viewing that indicates that Berelain will fall in love with Galad.
-Rhuarc disapproves of Berelain for some reason. What's that about? :scratch
-Faile... :mad :mad I just feel so bad for Perrin having to deal with all her crap. I realize Saldaean customs are different, but she's traveled enough and lived in Emond's Field long enough that she should know that that's not how they do it in the Two Rivers! It's ridiculous and not at all fair to Perrin.

Chapter 51:
-Galina mentions "Rand's 'Green' sister" to him (meaning Moiraine) and Rand assumes they mean Alanna bonding him. He doesn't understand how they found out.
-Rand has a very clear idea of how many Aes Sedai it would take to shield him when he's already holding saidin. Probably partly from Lews Therin's memories of dealing with female channelers.

Chapter 52:
-Ebou Dari are very polite in order to not start a fight. When Mat's done gambling at a table everyone says "The Light's Blessing on all here."
-Mat can't imagine where Olver got his insolent grin and flirtation from. :rolleyes
-Mat's frustrated that he can't find Nynaeve/Elayne/Birgitte even though he's guarding every exit to the palace. It's because Elayne wove disguises for all of them.
-Egwene doesn't know what it means, but she notices that Elayne's marriage knife in tel'aran'rhiod is 'a mass of pearls and firedrops' which means that she has a bunch of children. When Elayne realizes it she freaks out. :rofl
-Egwene explains that apparently you can only find something by need once. :\ That makes things much more difficult.
-Elayne says she hopes Perrin and Faile will be happy, but sounds doubtful when she says it. Why? Has Min shared her viewing of Perrin/Faile with Min? Or does she just remember how Faile is?
-(At Halima's urging), Delana has been hinting at murdering Logain. If Logain's around, he might sense Halima's ability to channel saidin. Egwene gets Siuan to help him to escape to solve the problem.
-Myrelle compels Lan using the bond, carefully so he doesn't notice.

Chapter 53:
-The Aiel are disgusted at all the PDA and Perrin assumes they're disgusted at the nudity.
-Sulin's reaction to finding out about Rand gives me chills. Same with the wolves' reactions. The howling and "We come."
-Ugh... the Faile/Perrin/Berelain dance around the table... :facepalm :facepalm
-Faile's at least sometimes willing to break from her ridiculous game and tells Perrin about Maiden handtalk.
-Similarly chilling is Sorilea showing Perrin that she can channel. Perrin sees it as a declaration of war against the Aes Sedai. A very big deal coming from Aiel. They've come very far from their old opinion of Aes Sedai.
-Lews Therin's advice is very helpful. He tells Rand that a tied off shield can be broken.
-Elaida/Galina are arranging for Gawyn/the Younglings to be killed. It's part of the bargain with the Shaido.
-Sevanna is determined to marry Rand. Seems like a terrible plan. I'm not sure how she suspects to make him do all this for her when he's destined to go mad...

Chapter 54:
-Here we learn that it's all the public kissing that's shocking the Aiel.
-Faile breaks her facade for a second again to tell Perrin that if he falls, she'll take up his sword.
-Sulin and Nandera have a bit of a contest of wills. Sulin used to lead the Maidens of the Spear around Rand and she has to prove to Nandera that she's no less than her.
-Sorilea and Amys have a similar thing going on. Perrin's confused that Aiel keep blushing. Amys admits that Sorilea is the leader. Later, they spend some time talking over a waterskin, after which Sorilea sees Amys as almost an equal.
-Loial mentions Faile being jealous and Perrin stoutly refuses to admit that Faile is jealous. :arch
-Sulin brings up embarrassing moments she saw when acting as a servant, including Perrin tripping over a pillow.

Chapter 55:
-Even Gawyn is sickened by the Aes Sedai's treatment of Rand. Galina is adamant, though.
-The Aes Sedai are able to get around the Three Oaths by putting themselves in danger.
-Perrin is weird (like Rand and Mat) about killing women, even in battle and even if they're trying to kill him.
-It's creepy how the Asha'man just appeared in the middle of battle, slicing people open with their gateways. :x
-Rand crushes the three remaining soft points in the shield, stilling the three Aes Sedai who were holding it.
-Taim refuses to wear the pins Rand gave him as an Asha'man. Pride?
-Perrin is surprised to see Min being affectionate toward Rand.

On a day of fire and blood and the One Power, as prophecy had suggested, the unstained tower, broken, bent knee to the forgotten sign.

Epilogue:
-Falion thinks that Moghedien's been ignoring her intentionally.
-The Seanchan are in Ebou Dar and one of them was in the inn with Mat when he mentioned the Daughter of the Nine Moons. He hopes that the Return will come soon along with the Daughter of the Nine Moons.
-Moghedien thinks Halima looks like a woman who had been designed by a man.
-Halima uses what is obviously saidin and then flinches when touching the a'dam, something that only happens to men who channel.
-Egwene's hoping to find Moghedien by asking about what man came to visit Marigan's tent... which is exactly why they won't find her.

Didn't Rand make a big dome that kept people out of the battle? I can't remember whether Mat was inside or outside the dome.

It was a wall of air wasn't it? shouldn't mat have been able to just waltz on through?

Oh, yeah, a wall, not a dome. The dome was at Dumai's Wells. I don't know, it depends on how the medallion works, I suppose. We know he can't be directly touched by the Power, but he can likely still interact with things made using the Power. I'm not sure how the wall of Air would fall in that. Is it a wall if air or a wall of Air? The flows aren't being used on him directly (something that we know the medallion blocks). The flows were used to create this wall and, once it's in place, I would assume it blocks Mat just as much as anyone else. Just like how you could probably make a ball of fire appear right over Mat's head and, once created, it would still burn him.

Re: 2015 Re-Readalong: Lord of Chaos, to the end!

To be fair about Ebou Dar, Elayne and Nyneave do not really treat him well at all on the trip there..or during the start. Everyone disrespects each other a great deal in the early Ebou Dar stuff, look at how Elayne demanded to be given the Fox Head amulet, and mind you Mat had no way of knowing that Egwene was Amyrlin Seat, after all before getting to Salidar she herself had thought that they had found out about her posing as an Aes Sedai, so it is quite understandable that Rand would think similarly.

Really 99% of the problems the light has in the series are caused by people not being able to trust each other and talk, and the inability for anyone to treat anyone else with a smidgen of respect while demanding respect from everyone. -cough- CADSUANE -cough-
That, and people assuming they know things they don't actually know, and acting on the false belief are common themes in the series
