Re: 2015 Re-Readalong: Lord of Chaos, Chapters 49-54

Chapter 25:
-Egwene considers that Elaida may have 'put Siuan to the question' before executing her. She seems to think that's expected of Elaida. :brown-blink:
-Gawyn thinks Egwene was in Illian
-As frustrating as Gawyn is and his insistence that Rand killed Morgase... I can definitely see where he's coming from. He has good reason to think he did kill Morgase and he's understandably distraught at being unable to find Morgase.
-"My Lady Aiel Egwene Aes Sedai" :facepalm
-Galina doesn't believe Moiraine is dead since there's no body and no one can tell any details
-Sarene agrees and seems to think Moiraine faked her own death or something. She thinks it's too convenient and implies it was intentional since Moiraine had an arrest warrant.
-It's creepy that the plan to kidnap Rand was so premeditated that they've been doing novice exercises as strongly as they can for weeks ahead of time in case they have to kidnap him. :brown-blink: When your plan involves planning to hide a kidnapping, you should probably rethink that plan.

Chapter 26:
-Rand was told "If you would live, you must die" in the ter'angreal
-The arrow used in the assassination attempt against Rand sounds like metal against metal when it hits Rand's shield of Air. Interesting. I wouldn't expect it to make that sound.

Chapter 27:
-If Egwene tries to talk with Nynaeve or Elayne in their dreams, bad stuff will happen.
-Egwene's starting to feel the Aiel contempt for servants
-In the Wheel of Time, 'Marie' is a guy's name.
-Egwene tells Rand that he needs to show proper deference to the Aes Sedai from the Tower, hoping that he'll do the opposite. He does end up doing the opposite, but pretends to take her at face value.
-Whites apparently almost always wear white, though most Ajahs don't
-Galina has to cover for how she knows Alviarin
-Rand interprets it as Galina being one of Alviarin's friends and on her 'team' rather than Elaida's.
-Nesune was the only one who noticed Egwene's presence in the room. The others could've felt Egwene's ability to channel, but they hadn't noticed.
-Galina really thinks that Rand won't care about anything as long as they give him enough gold.
-Nesune's planning to write a paper on Rand.

Chapter 28:
-Rand notices the Gray Man enter, but (since it's a Gray Man) thinks nothing of it.
-Taim comes to Rand with 'news', though the only news he actually shares is that there's a new student named Narishma who's pretty strong. :cheeseeni:
-Taim's excuse about weaving Balefire to kill the Gray Man in the same moment Rand seizes saidin and it being too late to stop is pretty convenient.
-Rand plan to help Sulin meet her toh (and meet his in the process) is pretty clever and kinda funny.
-Alanna bonding Rand pushes away part of Fain's connection with Rand. So Fain's connection is at least similar to the Warder bond.
-Fain is behind the Whitecloaks being set against Rand. (they might've been anyway, but perhaps not as violently/single-mindedly?)
-Fain is able to tell who's a Darkfriend

Chapter 29:
-Elayne just laughs when she hears the possibility that Morgase is in the Fortress of the Light.
-Lots of typos in the ebook....A character is called Tabitha and Tabiya in sonecutive paragraphs.

Chapter 30:
-When Nynaeve Heals Logain, she wants Elayne to tell Sheriam and only Sheriam.
-The Aes Sedai act like they definitely don't believe that Nynaeve Healed Logain. She's understandably frustrated.
-The Aes Sedai greet Siuan "as if she had been away for years" after she's Healed. I understand that they don't know how to treat her when she's stilled, but that's still pretty shitty. :grumble
-Lelaine: "It is so good to have you back." :rolleyes
-Siuan holds nothing against any of them, though.
-Siuan verifies that she can still lie and that the Three Oaths didn't come back with the Healing. And she definitely makes use of it.
-I still think it's weird that Siuan didn't feel Alric die at the time (after the fact, it makes sense that she was too distracted to notice, but right when it happened she was just sitting in her office), but she mourns him now.
-Elayne is able to undress Nynaeve and put her in bed without waking her. She's a very sound sleeper.
-'Halima' arrives in Salidar and Delana is frustrated at having to obey her, thinking she's just a high level Darkfriend... and then realizes who she is.

Chapter 31:
-Valda can't tell who's Dragonsworn and who's not so he just kills everyone... He simply sees this as an 'unsatisfactory solution'
-Valda considers proof og uilt a 'nicety'
-Valda doesn't like Questioners, but not for the same reason most people don't. He doesn't like them 'cause he thinks they just don't want to have to face an armed foe.
-Niall thinks Varadin's reports from Tanchico are madness
-Niall is quite intelligent and has good rules about making plans and obtaining information.
-Asunawa doesn't think there's a connection between Morgase and the 'Darkfriends' who were hanged other than them being Darkfriends and her being a witch.

Re: 2015 Re-Readalong: Lord of Chaos, Chapters 49-54

Yeah, I think Valda shows just what kind of guy he is with his "solution" :anger

And yes, the fact that Paitr and the others is caught right before their plans were executed is really an astonishing coincidence :brown-blink: But we never get any hint that anyone knew that Morgase was involved with them (lucky for her :look:) On the other hand, I wonder what Paitrs endgame was, and despite all that happened to her later, it is possible that Morgase is better off NOT going with them :look:

Re: 2015 Re-Readalong: Lord of Chaos, to the end!

Chapter 39
[Mat had] an uncanny knack for picking women who wanted to be chased.
Egwene continues manipulating the factions.

Chapter 40
Thom is seeing small, smart changes he thinks he may be able to credit to Egwene.
Thom talks Mat into going to Ebou Dar.
Mat asks Thom about the letter for the first time.
Birgitte doesn't want people to know that she's *the* Birgitte because she worries she can't live up to the legend.

Chapter 41
Min is afraid of Aiel.
She sees a wreath around Enaila -- the bridal wreath.
New image around Rand: aura of yellow and brown and purple -- colors of a bruise. She's foreseeing Aes Sedai hurting him, and more than once. Does the whole kidnapping count as once, or multiple?
Lews Therin is seeing and hearing more.
Melaine immediately likes Min, and Min Melaine.
Rand thinks them chastened but really they're just trying not to laugh.
Funny how attached each Salidar Aes Sedai is to her home country.

Chapter 42
The farm now has over 100 students of all ages and nationalities.
Just as Aes Sedia is an idealistic title, so is Asha'man.
Rand expects cheering because he told them men they'd win -- but he didn't. He couched it with "if" and "because we must." It was not inspiring.
Taim is worried already that Rand is going mad.

Chapter 43
What are Kairen, Rafela, and Demira up to? [No idea what this refers to...]

Chapter 44
Halima is using her body oto figure out how better to manipulate men. "Like a child with a new toy"
Mat's foxhead medallion does work on saidin.
what would have happened if Mat had mentioned the channeling incident? Could Halima have been found out?
Myrelle asks Mat to bond.
Olver appoints himself Mat's protector.
Mat refuses 4 Aes Sedai asking to bond...plus Myrelle.
The Hall walks behind Egwene, ignoring her -- she's not important to them. Mat does and says all the right things.
Egwene thinks Mat gets into trouble, but he really usually is just helping others out of their trouble.

Chapter 45
Vilnar doesn't know an Aes Sedai when he sees one, even if he thinks he does.
Aram has become bloodthirsty, as though he has to go to the exact opposite of what he was.
Perrin is terrified of meeting Bashere. He doesn't realize it's Faile's mom he should be worried about.
Perrin feels the tug of Rand's ta'veren-ness, but it doesn't pull in a direction.
Perrin knows he needs to be near Rand.
Perrin: "But Rand needed him, and he would do what he had to."
Faile stops being jealous of Min when she realized Min is in love with Rand.
Rand thinks going to get Elayne himself is the "very worst" thing he could do. Why?
Who's the third side of Aes Sedai ready to bow to Rand?

Re: 2015 Re-Readalong: Lord of Chaos, to the end!

If Rand went to get Elayne himself he would put himself in a position where he either have to piss off a lot of Aes Sedai, or ask them to do something :look: Even if he doesn't understand how many there are, or how organised they are, he doesn't want to do that...

And not the least, it will look even MORE like he "gives" Elayne the throne, which he now understands is a bad idea..

Re: 2015 Re-Readalong: Lord of Chaos, to the end!

My goal this week has been to finally catch up, and I'm definitely making progress. Went from Chapter 2 to to Chapter 22 so far. :pleased-1:

God, this book is where the Rand POV chapters just start getting on my nerves. He is... well, definitely going crazy, but the constant which-girl-do-I-like is annoying as well. I think this is the book where I started to like Nynaeve a lot. I feel pretty bad for her and Elayne both; Salidar is a huge comedown from their positions in the previous books. Nynaeve is so clearly scared about all the possibilities of what could happen but she keeps on going anyway, even when she thinks about running off. Also, it's funny knowing that the reason Myrelle is pushing her so hard is because she wants to be able to give Lan to her.

I'm kind of missing the Avi and Egwene in this book so far. Egwene has only started appearing recently. And Avi only shows up in Rand's chapters, but not for long because he's an idiot and avoiding her. So I kind of miss them.

Also, the end of Chapter 21 where Rand is *this close* to Emond's Field and the house where he grew up but knows he can't go back is just really sad.

Mat pisses me off so much when he arrives in Salidar. I know he's a lot of people's favorite but there are a lot of times I can't stand him. He always assumes he knows what's best and he is so incredibly patronizing to the women. I hate how he thinks they need him to save him because he just can't believe they can actually take care of themselves. Thom too, although he's not as insufferable and does legitimately have insight into the situation.

Well, to be fair, a lot of things that happen in Salidar is sort of improbable :look: Like Egwene as Amyrlin. And the way Rand presented it to Mat also does not help :look:

But yes, Mat does not come off well here, or in the beginning in Ebou Dar. Maybe that is why Jordan separated him from the women when the Seanchan came. That, and because he needed to meet Tuon :look:

To be fair about Ebou Dar, Elayne and Nyneave do not really treat him well at all on the trip there..or during the start. Everyone disrespects each other a great deal in the early Ebou Dar stuff, look at how Elayne demanded to be given the Fox Head amulet, and mind you Mat had no way of knowing that Egwene was Amyrlin Seat, after all before getting to Salidar she herself had thought that they had found out about her posing as an Aes Sedai, so it is quite understandable that Rand would think similarly.

Really 99% of the problems the light has in the series are caused by people not being able to trust each other and talk, and the inability for anyone to treat anyone else with a smidgen of respect while demanding respect from everyone. -cough- CADSUANE -cough-

Yeah, totally agree. It's really frustrating how rude they all are to each other!

The thing is, pretty much all the characters are like this in their own way. As has been stated, the girls don't treat Mat so well during this part of the story, and they certainly don't give him credit for having any brains at all. :\

Something I noticed last night:
Perrin was talking about rumors of men running with wolves. I think this was on the way to Dumai's Wells, or immediately before. He discounted most of the rumors but a few people looked at him oddly because of his eyes, and those people he took more seriously. Some of them gave him gifts of garlic, which he said he enjoyed eating. Is this supposed to be some strange twist to the legend of how to deal with vampires? :look: If not, what the heck does the garlic signify? :scratch

I must say, Dumais Wells gives me goosebumps every time I read it :look:
It just shows how utterly helpless normal people really are against channelers. It also gives you another perspective on why so many societies feel the need to control their channelers...

Ugh, yeah. I had forgotten how gruesome it was. The whole thing is just unpleasant in so many ways, from his capture to the battle.

Also, do we ever find out what the cube Sevanna has/was going to throw away does? I feel like we do but I can't remember.

@Leira Gallene: It's an ter'angreal like a satphone - she uses it later on to call "Caddar", aka Samael. And the he sends the Shaido all over the continent and gives them the fool boxes.
@Maibella Rhoiden re garlic: Yes, the vampire myth, recycled on werewolves ... "Perrin ate it with great pleasure" ... to quote the wonderful Lia: "That's why Faile doesn't want to kiss you!" - he should have shared the treat ...

Re: 2015 Re-Readalong: Lord of Chaos, to the end!

LoC – 40

Mat – So just how good at sneaking is Vanin? He can apparently evade Warders, that is pretty darn impressive.

Elayne – Elayne and Aviendha decide they are going to try to share Rand, but Aviendha is not at all happy that Min is in the picture, I do wonder how the 2 women 1 Man situation came about in the Aiel, it was something that happened post entering the waste, which was after The Maidens of the spear became a thing, so it couldn't have been a “men are more likely to die in Aiel culture” thing. I wonder if it is connected to some dreamwalker getting a vision of Callendor needing 2 women and 1 man.

LoC 41

Rand just can't win here, he attempts to be reasonable and find some middle ground between Trusting Aes Sedai and not at all trusting them, Though I do think it was a mistake for Rand to allow 3 Aes Sedai to visit him at a time, in a 1 on 1 situation he could have built a better relationship with the ones that were not frightened of him.

LoC 42

This chapter is what makes me think that Taim is not a dark friend as of yet, there was no real need for him to tell Rand to hold on for the sake of everyone.

LoC 43

Aes Sedai Plotting, of note is that Verin apparently gives the impression or buys Logain's story. I wonder if there is any reality in the story that Siuan and Logain crafted.

LoC 44

So the Fox head talisman protects against Saidin, since we know that Halima uses the male half and not the female, being Aginor stuffed in a new body.

Also lulz Mat flirted with Siuan, between Halima and Siuan Mat's luck apparently wasn't at all in that evening.

LoC 45

Hi Perrin, back from nearly 2 books worth of vacation.

LoC 46

This was a great chapter, Perrin and Bashere talking is a great moment, and Bashere is quite a smart guy knowing that Nobility is generally a pile of crap.

LoC 47

I really dislike how Elyane is treating Mat here, why does she think that he should listen to her? Even her mother somewhat admits that her rule means all of jack in the two rivers.
He is a rude, nobility hating lout and Elayne has zero authority to say that is a bad thing, especially since her family doesn't hold up her end of the bargain of Feudual Rulership when it comes to the two rivers.

LoC 48

It will take all of a week and a half to find the Bowl of the winds. YEP totally accurate bet.

LoC 49

And this here is the worst of the Aes Sedai in the series. They demand respect from Rand while not showing him any in return.

As for what Verin is up to? Who really knows we know she is a black however we know she is not loyal to the Dark One and is a double agent. However her plans might have been kneecaped by 2 more Aes Sedai showing up, brining the number to 13 which is the thing that caused Rand to flee more than The Aes Sedai standing up to him.

Loc 50

I love how an army of wise ones show up to check if Rand is well, and as much as I understand Gawyn's feeling the kid is smart enough to know that street rumors are not something to give full credence too and he should have at least talked about it to Rand and got his side of the story before making a judgment on the situation.

So, what is Rand's plan here with the Salidar Embassy, make them walk across two nations, and just toss his lot in with them anyways?

LoC 51

I have a few questions about how this all went down, especially after Egwene -warned- the Wise Ones why they did not have a chaneler in the Sun Palace to keep an eye on the Aes Sedai.

Sorilea especially seems to be acting out of character in not having them in place, she is usually far smarter than that.

LoC 52

Where could Oliver ever have learned an insolent grin from, Mat certainly is not a bad influence that would teach a young boy to flirt with every pretty face.

LoC 53

Thus begins the true fall of the Shaido, way later in the series we are told that they had actually sent someone to Rhudiean in order to become a clan chief but we never hear anything of it after that which is something of a shame, I would have liked the new clan chief tell the Shaido and The Brotherless that Rand is in fact He who comes with the dawn and return the Shaido to honor.

LoC 54
It is not surprising to see that the Wise ones are breaking custom to fight the Aes Sedai, with the changes in altitude of the Aiel to the Aes Sedai it was really only a matter of time before they came to blows, the only thing that prevents an outright war between The Tower and The Aiel after the series was Egwene making peace proactively.

Also the wolves being outraged by Rand being kidnapped was a little unsettling, something important enough for wolves to care about human.

LoC 55

Rand - This is one of the reasons I am suspect as to the full effect of the taint on Rand, He is untrusting and a little paranoid,I say little because there are people plotting against him, If I were him and 13 Aes Sedai show up in Camelyn I would be right the heck out of there too, Rand also breaks his shield in a great way of course he is going to escape he has nothing to do for days and days but to examine his shield.

Perin - the fight goes as well as one could think, especially in terms of it being an utter Charlie Foxtrot, and the Aes Sedai exploit the loopholes in the oaths. Of course they should have said this -before hand- to the people planning the battle. That right there, is why nobody trusts you.

Rand - Rand blows out the chest, which really should have gotten the attention of somebody, and begins to pick off the Aes Sedai while Lews Therin cackles madly in his head, and really does anyone blame Crazy Mcheadvoice for wanting to still the crap out of every Tower Aes Sedai here?

It just shows how utterly helpless normal people really are against channelers

It shows how helpless normal people with medieval weaponry are against Channelers, and honestly this curbstomping is really because the Ashaman are likely the best at using the power out of anyone in the series, look at how the Tower Aes Sedai were fighting the Aiel as perrin charged, they were using very basic techniques and strategy. Once the Ashaman hit the field they begin actively securing the field.

Epilouge - not much here

Chapter 46
Did Bashere deliberately make Perrin angry?
Twice Perrin needs to be there for Rand -- Dumai's Wells & Last Battle?
Aes Sedai in Caemlyn are meeting with the nobles.
The Aes Sedai think Rand ordered the Aiel to attack Demira -- explains why they're a little pissy with him.

Chapter 47
Everyone took care of Olver.
The women didn' twarn Mat of how long the journey would be, so he and his men are completely unprepared.
Potted larks -- :x
Mat handles Elayne's arrogance perfectly.
What the **** is Elayne doing, trying to command him?
What's Aviendha's problem with Mat? Why does she believe he has no honor?
The way the women treat Mat over the medallion is a little gross. They're so entitled.
Mat realizes that the foxhead has limits and drinks himself silly.
Ebou Dar is a city where a stable or fishmonger might be next to a palace.
We meet Setalle Anan.
Mat's head-dice stop rolling when he meets Setalle. Probably his choice of an inn over the palace. Had he stayed in the palace, under Elayne's protection (or impression thereof), would Tylin have taken different actions?

Chapter 48
Elayne believes that Vandene & Adeleas are looking for runaways? Are they looking for the source of rumors of the Kin?
V&A were channeling at Mat.
Tylin is "stiffly formal" to Merilille. Could Nynaeve's outburst and Elyanes apology have loosened Tylin?
I love that the Ebou Dari fashion is the same from high to low station.
The Dragon Reborn changed things in Altara and for Tylin. She has to make allies with those she'd prefer not to, like the Whitecloaks.

Chapter 49
Perrin is dedicated to Rand. He trusts 100% what Min sees and won't shirk what he sees as his duty.
Seven Aes Sedai came to the Palace, trying to surprise Rand.
I'm imagining the Great Hall packed full of Aiel, with a line of kneeling Maidens clearing a narrow path to Rand.
Did Merana know Bera and Kiruna were in Caemlyn when she went to Rand?
Verin guided Demira into suggesting the confrontation.
Alanna is unable to compel Rand via the bond. Because Rand can channel?
The exiled Tower needs Rand more than he needs them.
Merana hopes for an Amyrlin strong in the Power and strong in heart -- the Tower needs another Deane or Rashima to save them.

Chapter 50
What did Min see about Sorilea that had her questioning her age? Babies?
"Belief and order give strength. Have to clear rubble before you can build." Fel believes that the old seals must be removed before new ones an be applied.
Rand is afraid to spend too much time with Min, for fear that people will notice and think to use her.
Rand hasn't forgotten Padan Fain.
Rand pretends to stammer to Min finally.
It's accidental that Min gets interested in philosophy -- she picks up a book to pretend to read and then actually does read.
Cairhienin bastardize Aiel custom and romanticize it, much the way some people do with Native cultures.
Rhuarc is displeased with Berelain over the way she's acting with Perrin & Faile?

Chapter 51
Rand manages to be caught alone by the Aes Sedai.
And the Aiel's habit of not acknowledging servants only hurts.
Ugh. And the Aes Sedai distract Bain and Chiad an say Rand walked away.
Rand starts puzzling out how to break the shield.

Chapter 52
Mat's dicing with a Seanchan, but doesn't recognize the accent. That memory of the Seanchan must have been erased with the dagger.
Lan goes to Myrelle though eh doesn't want to. One of the first things she does is make him obey her.

Chapter 53
Feats of Lights almost turns things on their head in Cairhien -- breaks down walls.
Aes Sedai who kidnapped Rand were well prepared, first with the heavy channeling then with delaying their departure so as not to coincide with his disappearance.
Poor Loial is caught between Perrin and Faile.
Sulin: "They have taken my first-brother." This always tugs at my heart.
Perrin is determeined to get Rand back, with Two Rivers men and/or wolves. Loial jumps in, and Dobraine. Maybe Dobraine joins for different reasons, but he's still willing.
Galina doesn't know that Elayne has ties to Rand.
Galina: Elaida had become one of those strong, capable Amyrlins who took every rein firmly into their own hands."
39 Aes Sedai in the kidnapping party.

Chapter 32:
-Elayne learned that Rand is the Coramoor while with the Seafolk and told Egwene.
-Rand is able to change the wards around Callandor while in Tel'aran'rhiod.

Chapter 33:
-Rand is worried the Dragonsworn will 'turn to bandits' and tells Mat to scoop up any Dragonsworn he finds on the road.
-Sheriam thought it would take Egwene a day or two to reach Salidar in Tel'aran'rhiod. She really doesn't understand how it works.

Chapter 35:
-Egwene thinks "with anyone else but Aes Sedai, she would have said they were nervous". Even people who have been to the White Tower and are familiar with Aes Sedai still seem to think that Aes Sedai can't get nervous. :arch
-They had to add the 'switching Egwene's ring to her right hand' bit to her raising ceremony. Not something that's usually in an Amyrlin's raising.

Chapter 36:
-I like Chesa. :) Giving Egwene the cushions was very nice of her.
-Egwene tells Elayne and Nynaeve that she can probably make the trip to Ebou Dar shorter than they expect.

Chapter 37:
-Elayne promised the Windfinder that she wouldn't tell anyone about their secret and now Egwene has plans for them. Egwene tells Elayne that she didn't betray the Windfinders, but I'm not sure they'd agree with that assessment.
-Delana's playing all sides and is worried about it... but she doesn't really have a choice with Halima directing her.
-Delana is confused that Halima can sense when Delana embraces Saidar, even though she can't channel. (or, at least, she can't channel Saidar)
-Siuan is determined that Egwene will be 'an Amyrlin to make thrones tremble'
-Romanda's not very subtle. She's trying to break Nynaeve's block and tries to subtly ask about what the Amyrlin and Lelaine wanted to talk about. :rolleyes

Chapter 38:
-Mat finds out just how wrong Rand was about 'fifty Aes Sedai' in Salidar and his suggestion to 'loom and little; intimidate them'
-There are no flies in Salidar. I remember finding out why, but I can't remember the reason. :scratch
-Mat notices Birgitte and something tickles his memory, but he can't remember what. He assumes she's 'another Hunter for the Horn'. In fact, she's been tied to the Horn in a very different way. :p
-Mat and Egwene/Elayne/Nynaeve are all annoying during this exchange. :indifferent: It's rather annoying. Yes, Mat has reason to suspect as he does (i.e. that Egwene is pretending to be Amyrlin, though I'm not sure how he expects she'd pull that off, but he's not exactly nice to them either and the first thing he does after walking in is propping his boots on the table.
-Mat then says that whoever this Amyrling is can't be very bright if they managed to convince her to take this job.
-And as much as I hate Nynaeve in a little bit, I do like her satisfaction when he finds out Egwene really is Amyrlin. "Close your mouth before you catch flies, Mat."

Chapter 39:
-Rand has put Mat in an awkward situation in that he really wants Mat to bring Elayne back with him... but threatening to tie Elayne up and hand her over to Rand isn't a great way to go around things. That's just going to put their backs up. If you're there to help people, maybe don't threaten them?
-Though Nynaeve is obviously way out of line in physically assaulting Mat. :indifferent: At least Egwene and Elayne don't agree with what she did, though they seem to take it in stride when it happens. Seriously, that was uncalled for Nynaeve, especially given how hard she apparently kicked him. How do you think they would've reacted if Mat kicked one of them that hard?
-Egwene to Elayne "A few soldiers might be a very good idea, unless you've picked out Warders without letting me know."
-Moghedien knows of lots of uses for the One Power, but that doesn't mean she can do them or teach them herself.
-Egwene can't bear to feel Moghedien's 'constant sickening rain of sniveling terror' so she take the a'dam off.
-Sheriam thinks that Delana's the only one who supports her fully... Oops. Though they are both Black Ajah. :cheeseeni:
-Tylin holds the 'Throne of the Winds'. Is it just coincidence that the Bowl of the Winds is also in Ebou Dar?

Chapter 40:
-Thom is wise. He advises Mat that he might not know the whole story and that his plans to 'rescue' Egwene/Elayne/Nynaeve may be ill-founded.
-Elayne plans to make Rand promise to do what she says and to answer her questions when she bonds him. Does she really think he'll agree to that? :p

Chapter 41:
-Min sees an image of a bridal wreath above Enaila's head, though she doesn't know what it is.
-Min sees the colors of a bruise in the usual viewings above Rand
-"Min, you're a friend. I don't think of you as a woman." :facepalm

Chapter 43:
-Merana sees what Alanna did as little short of rape.
-Masuri thinks it's ridiculous that Rand claims to be able to sense a woman Channeling. She almost embraced saidar just to prove him wrong... good thing she didn't.

Chapter 44:
-Mat picks out Halima from the crowd and dances with her... and then Halima tries to Channel at him. Good thing the medallion blocks saidin, too. I wonder what Halima was trying to do.
-The song playing at the party for Egwene's raising used to have very anti-Aes Sedai lyrics.

Chapter 45:
-Perrin thinks that women always seem either amused or angry when talking about men.
-Faile is jealous until she realizes Min likes Rand, not Perrin.
-Rand mentions a "third side, ready to kneel to [him], if they make contact again". Who is this? :scratch
-Min is very perceptive, with the help of her viewings. About Perrin: "He's found his falcon, and I wouldn't be surprised if she kills him when the hawk appears." She slips in mentioing the viewing around Rand.
-Ugh.... the whole Perrin/Faile thing is starting. :facepalm

Chapter 46:
-Perrin's going to have to be there for Rand twice or things will go very badly. During Dumai's Wells and the Last Battle.
-Cats are kind around Aes Sedai, but dogs are hostile toward them as if they think Aes Sedai are cats.
-Demira notices the Aielmen on the street, one of them being a 'squat fellow with villainous eyes'. Aiel are definitely not squat. Then the man she recognized looks at her with black eyes. Also definitely not an Aiel feature.
-
Perrin said:
Sometimes he wondered about these Saldaean farmgirls she was always bringing up. Blushes or no blushes, if they were as forward as Faile when he and she were alone, no crops would ever be harvested in Saldaea.
:rofl
-Another clue that the people who attacked Demira aren't Aiel: they call Aes Sedai 'witches'.
-Demira comes to the rather logical conclusion that, since the Aiel were obviously acting under orders, it must have been Rand who ordered them.
-The Aes Sedai assume Rand must be responsible and resolve to teach him a lesson by playing passive aggressive daes dae'mar-type games with him. :desk

Chapter 47:
-Mat (understandably) doesn't understand that hierarchy among Aes Sedai is based on strength in the Power. He thinks Adeleas and Vandene are remarkably tolerant and barely notice when Elayne gives orders.
-Mat chooses an inn at random. The dice stop rolling once he enters and decides to stay there.
-We meet Setalle Anan.

Chapter 48:
-Elayne surprises Tylin by apologizing for the Salidar Aes Sedai gathering an army within her borders. This and how open she and Elayne are serve to loosen Tylin and make her more relaxed around them.
-In Ebou Dar if you tell someone to relax, you say "lean back on your knife and let your tongue go free."
-She's surprised that they took her at her word and really did let their tongues go free.
-The colors and decorations on marriage knives are very complicated and give the viewer a lot of information about the woman.
