Re: 2015 Re-Readalong: EoTW, Prologue - Chapter 6

I think the Fade not seeing could just be Rand being ta'veren and it's effect. One way to look at Moiraine and Lan's arrival is that the Wheel willed that they arrive at that time of greatest need. Just like Elyas's arrival to save Perrin and Egwene. They boys never had an easy path, but the Wheel always seemed to get them the tools they needed along the way. Including two kerchiefs from the same farmer :look:

Yeah I'm already to chapter 11. :look: But I'm still going to try and read a little (or a lot) every day, because once school starts next week I will probably fall really far behind. :p

But now I have to skim the last few chapters to remember what was in them. :p

 I'm taking notes as I read. :geek

I may get a little behind (again) this week because I have a book club book I need to plow through, but I'll be following along with the conversation!

I use the library to remind myself how far we are supposed to be :look:

And I just want to say that I am enjoying this very much :pleased-1:

Good idea, I'm going to use the library too. :)

Do we know who put the Dragon's Fang on the inn's door? I feel like we find out at some point but I can't remember.

This is one of those times when I really wish we could see from Moiraine's point of view. I really want to know how much she knows about who Rand and the others are. She says things that make it sound as if she knows things but I want to know what she knows. :p I'd also love to see the Trolloc battle from Moiraine and Lan's point of view, just for kicks. And the run from Emond's Field to Taren Ferry later on.

I just really like Moiraine and Lan. :look:

Re: 2015 Re-Readalong: EoTW, Chapter 7 - Chapter 13

I've finished this weeks read already, I may take some time this week and skim for more tid-bits.
Things to look for, how did the Wheel force Moiraine and lan to do things they hadn't planned or wanted to do, but had to because of unforeseen happenstance? The Archer, the Axeman and the Swordsman vs. The Farmboy, the Blacksmith and the Trickster. Just how soon did Lan start being on the boy's side instead of Moiraine's?
Maybe more to come.

Re: 2015 Re-Readalong: EoTW, Chapter 7 - Chapter 13

Right, sorry I've been so absent. Sucky work shifts. As it is, I may now be one chapter too far on in what I say this post, but... meh

I agree about how great it would be to see things from Moiraine's point of view. From what she says in The Great Hunt, I think she arrived being hopeful to the point of sure that she was in the right place. When she asked questions around Emond's Field and found out the timeline was right... I'll bet she'd have been pretty excited (well, as excited as she ever gets). From what she says about the goal of the Trolloc attack being to capture or kill boys of Rand/Perrin/Mat's age, I think she is pretty certain she's found him.

Now the thing I wonder is - did she know that Rand was the Dragon from the start? I forget how much they know about the whole "He'll be Aiel but not raised by Aiel" thing at this point. With him being the only one born outside the Two Rivers, did this mark him to Moiraine from the start? I feel it didn't, when it should have - I remember her talking about how Bela hadn't needed help but Moiraine hadn't put two and two together about who was riding Bela. I know with hindsight everything is 20/20, but... yeah. I wonder how much she had figured out.

What I've found from listening to the audiobooks is that I'm paying more attention to the dreams characters have. From Rand's PoV we see him firstly chuck himself off a cliff rather than face the Dark One - nice bit of foreshadowing as he spends the next book doing his level best to avoid accepting the role which makes that confrontation inevitable. The second dream he has confuses me a bit. If I recall correctly, he doesn't actually end up going to Tar Valon until much later. Like... book 12 or 13? But he certainly spends a lot of time running from Aes Sedai. I wasn't sure if this was an attempt from the Shadow to subliminally make him fear the White Tower, to avoid him having the support of Aes Sedai such as Moiraine? Or is it very subtle foreshadowing about the presence of the Black Ajah?

And lastly... Moiraine telling the story of Manetheren. So. Fricking. Awesome. Actually one of the scenes I would *love* to see as live action.

Yeah, I was sitting there and just imagined it how it would have been looking like :D Like when the queen avenged her husband's death!

Yes, I love that story time too! And such an effective way to still the crowd :pleased-1: But I wonder what happened to Moiraines staff, it just suddenly disappears, and we never hear of anything like it again :look:

No she has it for most of the first book... I'm trying to remember now. She definitely has it when they get to Shienar. I don't remember it being mentioned after Fal Dara, but I could be wrong.
