But I don't remember if they said to be Cairhienin? Or just the people that lived close to the mountains and became the city as we know as Cairhien?

circa 1989.
:look:

And One Piece was only planned Originally to go for five years.

>.> Last year they celebrated the 15th Anniversary to the series..and is about 5/8ths of the way through the plot...

ITS SUNDAY!

TDR: 43

Perrin brings up a really good point here, Moraine and Lan can sense Shadow Spawn and Dark Friends, also why can't the Aes Sedai in the tower sense the Black Ajah, we know of Black Sisters who have served the dark for decades, surely they would be deep enough in the shadow? Especially the Council and the head of the Black Ajah?

We have confirmation that Perrin's dreams show some reality, though really it does not need a huge amount of evidence considering that two of the forsaken were already free.

TDR: 44

Perrin plants his foot in his mouth, and tells two people who should not know yet about Rand, of course Moraine does not react well to this, effectively telling Perrin to be careful of he might get killed. I am not entirely Sure I agree on her in this specific instance. Neida from the context of what has been said knows what Moraine is, if not her name and seems to answer to her specifically rather than the Blue Ajah or the White Tower.

Faile was going to find out about it eventually, considering she is following Perrin's group around like a puppy, might as well have her find out sooner as opposed to jumping to some goofy conclusion that Moraine is Black Ajah or the like.

TDR: 45

Mat Sticks his foot in his mouth, shame that Chapter 46 is not a rand chapter, we could have had a Hat Trick of Tav'eren chewing on their toes, I love how the guard does not even ask to see the letter before just dismissing Mat as a grifter, good job checking the evidence there buddy, freaking Moron.

TDR: 46

Mat encounters Ravin and one of his underlings, hears of a plot to Take out Egwene's team, and how that acting openly against them would draw the ire of his “Opponent” which I assume would be Belal.
So he orders Comar to have them killed.

Lets look at the current state of the plot in Tear. Belal rules there and is trying to hide there while figuring out how to retrieve Callendor, The Black Ajah goes to Tear, leaving behind clues(?) for Egwene's Party to find and follow into a trap, which they hide in a storage place that nobody would ever really look in, until Lanfear, Mirror Misted as Else tells them about it.

So, Ravhin wants to take out Elayne, which will also require taking out Egwene and Nyneave, or just wants to take out all 3, but can't do it as it will get attention from Belal, presumably because it will screw up Belal's plans, because presumably his plan is to use Egwene's Party to trap Rand, but that really makes no sense because Belal is after the sword that is not a sword, the only thing he would want Egwene's Party is to turn them to the shadow as they have 13 Black Ajah, however the Location of the “tips” for where the Black Sisters ran to are hidden away where ONLY Black Sisters would know it, so that does not make sense itself.

It also leaves Lanfear, whose obsession is Rand, trying to push him to power, and into her arms.

So I propose that, Lanfear utterly screwed up -everyone's- plans here.

Belal wanted access to the stone, so he needs Rand, To have Rand willingly give the sword over Belal needs 13 Black Sisters and 13 Fades to turn him by force, so he commands Alviarin to send him 13 sisters, being a Sister of pure logic she chooses out 13 sisters who have nothing in common, as she is the only one who knows every Black Sister in the tower.

In command would be Liandrin, who without Alviarin's command leaves a “trail” for other sisters to follow, Theoretically this would be a trap for whoever Suian sends after them, Presumably women she knows are not Black Ajah, which if I were in Liandrin's shoes I would guess would be Moraine, after all, She does not know Rand and Moraine are stuck up in the mountains east of Toman Head, so the chance to Capture and/or turn Moraine, or anyone else that Suian implicitly trusts more than anyone else.

However, there are two Large spanners in the works here, One is that Siuan has 3 Accepted she can implicity trust more than even Moraine, more than even Verin or her watcher, and the second, the one that throws pretty much everything off is Lanfear, who reveals to the Accepted something they were not meant to find, this causes Ravihn to have to send assassins after them in Tear instead of presumably trying to kidnap them out of the tower, which pulls Mat and Thom into Tear, where Mat helps distract the defenders by blowing a hole in the freaking walls, bad Voodoo for Balel happens, Rand ends up with Callendor, and meets up with the Aiel.

Did Lanfear know that she was effectively making Balel's life much more difficult? Had the Black Sisters not been screwing around with Egwene they would have been actually prepared to take Rand, you know, 13 Sisters, lead by a Red, that could have screwed The Dragon Reborn 8 ways from Sunday if two of them had not been taken out at the worst time possible for them.

Moving on.

TDR: 47

The next part of Mat's journey is set in stone, time to go to Tear, and Thom goes as well, with the excuse that “Tear is as good a place as any” when really he wants to help Elyane, which is sensible since Thom was a hair away from being her dad in most senses of the word.

TDR: 48

As much as Nyneave can get on my nerves sometimes I do like what she says here, Egwene for all she loves to learn about the power, ignores almost everything not related to it sometimes, and very much to her detriment at times.

My guess is because the Black Sisters are still human. Regardless of how in-the-Shadow they are, they're forever human. Same reason people can't sense the Forsaken -- they're human, at their core (even if they are sort of immortal). Trollocs and Myrdraal and other Shadow creatures were created to be purely of the Shadow.

Did Lanfear know that she was effectively making Balel's life much more difficult?

Would she have cared?

Chapter 40
  • Mat has an aversion to following orders. He skipped that usual requirement of soldiering and went straight to the top.
  • Thom's smoking in a hayloft. Really?
  • Thom comments that Aludra could have set fire to the barn with a flint. REALLY? You're smoking in a hayloft, dude.
  • After the fight, when Mat gets a look at Aludra, he goes immediately into flirt mode.
Chapter 41

  • Is Lan amused because Faile reminds him of Moiraine when she was younger?

  • Perrin misses the wolves in his head: "a curiously empty feeling"

  • Perrin and Faile had a shouting match on the boat, and Perrin didn't realize he was flirting with Faile by doing so. :giggle

I particularly love the imagery of Mat swinging out into the armed men, gold coins flying everywhere; it's one of those scenes I really visualize clearly. Also, am I the only one that hears the sounds of bowling pins clattering down when Mat smashes into Tammuz and crew?

I have another thought about once we reach the climax, so don't check the spoiler unless you've read a bit ahead (or don't mind!)

Another thing that jumps out at me is wondering how Moiraine manages to get into the Stone. Did she use subterfuge, follow through Mat's impromptu entrance, or perhaps climb like Rand did (unlikely to impossible)? Maybe she revealed herself to some Aiel, and entered with them? My guess is that there was so much confusion, she managed to sneak in somehow, as opposed to somehow talking her way inside.

I always get ahead at the end because when it gets to the climax I don't want to stop reading. :cheeseeni: I forgot how much I liked this books.

Of course, I'm pretty sure a lot of that is because the focus is so little on Rand. I get very tired of his POV chapters.

Oh I know. He's annoying, and I'm loving that TDR has so little of him. :pleased-1:

Re: 2015 Re-Readalong: Dragon Reborn 44-50

Chapter 42

  • Random thought: Whatever happened to that badger? ...
  • Illianers don't believe in snow. :giggle
  • Perrin: "He had never heard of any woman doing anything remotely like what the girl was singing about, but it did sound interesting." :rofl
  • Lord Brend = Sammael
  • Ogiers left Illian about the same time Brend/Sam came in. Did they sense him?
  • What exactly was Moiraine off to do?
Chapter 43
  • Faile is from Saldaea. In the Borderlands. How does she not believe Myrdraal are real?
Chapter 44
  • What vows keep Aes Sedai from using balefire? Do individual Aes Sedai take those oaths, or are they leftover from the War of Whatever where they called the ban on balefire?
  • How the hell did Moiraine discover how to make balefire?

Where does it say that Faile doesn't believe in Myrdraal? Doesn't she just not want to have that discussion with the innkeeper?

Re: 2015 Re-Readalong: Dragon Reborn 44-50

I think I misread. :look:

"Are you telling me Nieda was right?" Zarine demanded in a shaky voice. "Old Grim is really riding with the Wild Hunt? Light! I always thought it was just a story."
"Don't be a complete fool, girl," Lan said harshly. "If the Dark One were free, we'd all be worse than dead by now." He peered off down the street, the way the tracks went. "But Darkhounds are real enough. Almost as dangerous as Myrddraal, and harder to kill."
"Now you bring Fetches into it," Zarine muttered. "Grey Men. Fetches. Darkhounds. You had better lead me to the Horn of Valere, farmboy....

Not disbelief in Myrddraal, just general disbelief that she's in this situation.

[Also: I just realized Myrddraal has 2 d's.]
