I love everyone's creativity in selecting names! Especially the Persian mythological names. I don't know that much about Persian myths. Love to hear more!

I chose my first name to sound lion-like because of my favorite scene from WoT. My heart melted when Lan called Nynaeve a lioness. Sigh... Also Leonie is the protagonist from Kate Mosse's book Sepulchre. And, I am a Francophile. The last name I decide to make it sound like a Manetheren/ Two Rivers name. It is a play off of Adorno, a philosopher, I did my Masters work on.

Khisanth is a Black Dragon from the world of Dragonlance which is one of the first fantasy series I read. I am a Dragon and love all things related. :pleased-1: Danya is a play on my RL name. My first-sister, Jenarra, suggested it and it worked well all together. :)

:facepalm I KNEW your name sounded familiar but I could never figure out why. Now I know. :pleased-1: Yay for Dragonlance!
^

This. For many moons I would use Kitiara as my name if I needed a character name. ALMOST used it for TV. ;)

Is it sacrilege to admit I still prefer Dragonlance slightly over WoT? :shifty

Raistlin, Kitiara, and mostly.. Tanis and Fizban. I'm probably misspelling because not looking up, but the characters themselves are deep in my memory.

I enjoy WoT, or I wouldn't have reread it a dozen times as I was prepping for new books. But DL will always have a slightly softer place in my heart. Still love me? :D

You did get all of the spellings right. ;)

I know exactly what you mean. It holds a softer spot in my heart than WoT, too. I think DL was one of the first series where I had "all the feels" for characters who were lost or thought lost. And I have no shame in admitting that I had a serious crush on Raistlin. :waggle

Who was the kender? That's who I meant, though now I'm remembering that Tanis was the half-elf pretty boy.

:shifty

Yeah, I was a Raistlin girl too. Sorry Roh. ;) Was pretty jealous of Chrysania, too. (sp again? I should reread these...) Actually, both had a crush on and wanted to BE Raistlin. Especially in the Time/Test/Something Else of the Twins books.
Also I LOVED that Kit named her kid Steel. I still wanna be Kit when I grow up. A little. And also Raistlin. I have issues.

Ris, this is exactly why I say DL holds me more. I don't have as strong reactions to the characters in WoT, it was more the plot that gripped me. I *needed* to know what happened next- it's the only thing that got me through the middle books. (keep in mind that I read each of them one at a time as they came out, starting with whatever's after Path of Daggers) But the characters in DL are what compels me- I don't even really remember the plot that well.

Seriously. What's the name of the Kender that was Fizban's little companion? Drivin me nuts. (short trip)

Crap. Typical Brown with meandering topic. Sorry.. :embarassed:

Can't remember if I've posted this here before (or anywhere outside Brown), but my name is made up of names of loved ones. My first name is my mom's mixed with my brothers, and it felt vaguely Andoran to me, plus it sounds like my neice's name. My second name is my dad's name mixed with my last name.

I think at oen time we did have a thread for this in General I can't recall honestly, but I'm pretty sure I've explained how I came about mine.. although Id on't mind resharing.

Real name is Jennifer Lyn, so my online name I started with was Jlyne first initial middle name added the e just for. When I came to tar valon I looked at names and found Jalen which I suspected sounds like the way I pronounced Jlyne (Jay len) So I figured I should work around that and get something similar, so I stuck an A in the front sound wise but reworked how I spelled the Jlyne part, so Ajailyn.. just like Jay-len but with an Ah in teh front :) Ah-jay-lyn . Morrivinna is an rp character's last name I had and I've always felt it was slightly Cairheinin.. and I kept it for here.

back when I Lord of the rings online had just entered beta testing I was in the beta and I made a ranger and back then lord of the rings had this system to help you make a lord of the rings sounding name for your character so I made the name Tarbardar, the Calvat part came from a fictional family that I created in an attempt at writing my own novel and Tarbardar also happens to be in that as well except he is the farther of the three main characters.

It's amazing how much thought (some) people have put into their names!
I always struggle coming up with names for anything, which is probably why I've had the same name (where available) in pretty much every MMO I've ever played.
For this site I picked my patron goddess and combined it with a Cairhien sounding last name later (we didn't have to have last names initially).

Tikvah means 'hope' in Hebrew and it's what my Swedish/Yiddish name means also. 'Al' was to get the WoT feeling and Aviv means 'spring' in Hebrew and it's the season when I'm born. So, Tikvah al'Aviv is both me, but also inspiring enough to be used on this forum.

Liam is a true Irish/Gaelic variation of my real name (Sean)
Al'Aire.... Different spelling of Eire - the Emerald Isle.

Obviously, based on what I chose, I MUST be Scandinavian. lol

I got Gedhan from a WoT name creator page on Dragonmount and Audax from the motto (Celer et Audax - Swift and Bold) of the Regiment, The Royal Green Jackets, that I served in as a youngster.

I was driving back from JordanCon 2012. I hadn't joined TarValon yet, but I met a bunch of Tower people, and couldn't wait to join the site when I got home.
So, driving back to Illinois from Georgia, I came up with my name. I thought on it a long while.
So I picked "Owen" for Thom Merrilin's nephew, and Stephen King's son. I put "-aleah" on the end because I love the name Leah, and it made it more feminine.
I picked al'Saturni, just because Saturn is cool, and I was definitely going to have a "al'" last name.
I'm really happy with my name, because I love when people call me Owen (I've always been a bit of a tomboy).

Since my name has changed since I originally answered... :look:

I had seen a contestant on Jeopardy! several years ago named Cahalan and thought it was a cool name, so I tucked away into my name bank. Unlike Saowynn and most of my online handles, it didn't have any baggage attached to it so it seemed like my best option. Sothron is a derivation of Southron, the Haradrim from LotR. It was the last name my husband used at the site where we first met. I figured that, if I ever got him to join, he'd probably stick with that name, so I wouldn't have to change mine again. :pleased-1:
