Iria Saronin breathed deeply as she sat cross-legged among the flowers and bushes of the fenced garden. The hot Summer season had let up for a brief time this single Sunday and made passing a little time among her favorite plants comfortable. Iria stretched grandly before relaxing once again. This was the first time she had had the time to be out in the lazy Summer haze. In order to get some exercise, Iria had been visiting the yoga lessons sponsored by City Hall to bring exotic yoga teachers to the City of Tar Valon from all over the world. She saw a Cairhien instructor performing a new position yesterday and had been waiting to try it out. After another deep breath, Iria folded her ankle around her knee, brought her arms above her head and over her neck before extending them out. She was relaxing into the pose when her foot got stuck. Wait... that isn't right.
"Am I seriously stuck?" Iria asked out loud. With a tug, she tried to pull her leg out, but she had gotten herself into quite a pretzel. Definitely stuck - at least for the moment. She looked up and saw the Sun shining between the leaves of the tree above. Although she could rotate her neck, her head was essentially down in the grass. At least no one could see her like this! She just had to get un-stuck...
She heard a thump from elsewhere in the garden, and she searched about everywhere she could see - freezing her attempts to untangle her own limbs. The only thing she could see was a creepy garden gnome with a large, red nose and a far too excited grin looking down at her like it was laughing. She hated the thing but couldn't refuse it since it was given to her by a Gaidin, of all people. Still... she couldn't see a living soul, so she continued struggling to get her leg to unwound. If only she could get her arm back around her - she would be free!
"Iria! Iria!"
Iria gasped and rolled into some tall grass. Whoever it was, they couldn't see her like this - tangled up in her own garden!
"Iria! Where are you for goodness sake?"
Iria recognized the voice of the Accepted Sailea Nerid, with whom she was good friends. Sailea would help her! Surely she wouldn't make her feel bad for getting all tied up. "I'm in here!" Iria hissed. "Help me!"
Sailea looked around but spotted her beneath a bush. "There you are. Come with me!" Sailea grabbed her arm and pulled harshly, but Iria's body wouldn't move, and Sailea was pulled back toward the bush, where she collided with the branches and fell on top of her friend. "What are you doing?" she asked, annoyed. "You've been called to the Tower!"
"I'm stuck! You have to help me - please!" Iria pleaded.
"What do you mean you're stuck?"
"I tried out this new position called 'Lying Duck,' but it didn't work out quite like I had planned..."
"You mean Lame Duck! I thought you were all ready to move onto the Tower, and here you are just lying around!" Sailea tried to get up, but there were just too many limbs - tree and human - and she flailed around in frustration. "That's it - I'm getting a CART!"
"Wait! Wait! Don't leave me here! Help meeeeeeeee!" Iria pleaded as the Accepted stalked off in search of a cart.
Congratulations, Novice Iria! It looks like you're headed for the Tower one way or another!
