It's Nynaeve! Tugging her braid and then running off to the rescue!

LOL, how did I not see it!?

The comments about Nynaeve risking anything to help an Emond's Fielder do make sense, I hadn't considered that part. I was more caught up in how much I dislike Liandrin.

I don't really remember how I felt on my first read through without the knowledge I have now, but I don't remember being very surprised at how it turned out.

I think that is because they are not aware of the black ajah yet.
They therefore believe liandrin meant them no harm.

Liandrin were talking about the Black Ajah before the trip thru the ways, so yes, the were aware of the Black Ajah.

I think that, personalities aside, Liandrin's behaviour was suspicious. Why no order from the MoN? Why Liandrin of all people? They did question Liandrin, but I agree that following her the way they did was pretty stupid. Obedience or not, Nynaeve just didn't trust Aes Sedai in general at that point.

I just go to the bit in the re-read where they return and Suian claims that even an infant wouldn't have been tricked. I personally think that obedience to Aes Sedai is pushed so hard, and the idea that one of them would want to harm them so alien that I can't blame them, but she apparently felt differently

I don't really think that obedience to Aes Sedai had much to do with it. Yes, it played a part, but I think the larger part was Rand. Nynaeve has a huge weakness for "her people" and reason tends to go out the window when one of them is in trouble. They had already believed that he was in trouble, and all they needed was a little confirmation, which is what Liandrin gave them. People believe things because they want it to be true or they fear it to be true. Nynaeve and Egwene feared that Rand was in trouble and needed their help, so when Liandrin told them so, they believed it. I think concern for Rand blinded them to what they otherwise would have been able to see.
Also, we can't quite discount the pull of ta'veren. No coincidence all the important players ended up at Falme at the same time.
