Who is your favourite character?

I'm about halfway through my first ever read of EotW, and well... I don't really have a favorite character... :/
They all have their individual functions and personalities, but none of them so far really resonate with me.
Maybe Rand, but I kinda feel bad saying that because the main character theoretically should be the most relatable (spell checker is freaking out on me with "relatable" but I'm pretty sure it's correct...??).
I guess Rand maybe. but I really don't know.
I also like Thom. Actually, I'm going to say Thom, because he's the character that interests me most. character/personality-wise, I don't think he's that special (though I predict that he's going to do something of incredible importance before long), but I like that he knows a lot but isn't outright powerful (i.e. Moiraine), and it makes him interesting to me. He's at this point in the story a bit of a tag-along spectator. He's not the primary focus, but he's there. if that makes sense.

I agree with ya Xamo, Mat and Moiraine interactions are great! I also like how Rand doesn't take any guff from her later on in book four. Still gotta go with Thom and Mat as favs.

Through book four, Lan is my favorite character. Awesome swordsman, poet, honorable, knowledgeable man.

I'd say my favourite is Siuan Sanche. Close seconds include Loial, Moiraine, Nynaeve, Egwene as of LoC, and the main first 4 introduced Wise Ones (Sorilea instead of Seana). There are just so many amazing characters to choose from!

Siuan is just pure awesomeness! She's my favorite Aes Sedai excluding Egwene and Nynaeve from the competition.

Dont mind me, Im new here. :)

Favorite character? Gotta be Mat bloody Cauthon or Rand. ("bloody" doesnt count as swearing does it?)

Mat really grew on me as a character. Earlier in the series I found his refusal to engage in events irritating, especially once things had progressed to the point where there was clearly no way back. That sort of immaturity might have been in character but it dragged longer than I'd have liked. But by the end he was always a joy to read and one of the most competent, interesting characters in a series boasting dozens and dozens of interesting, competent characters.

Rand....well, he's Rand. What I find the most appealing about him is how damaged he becomes. It's rare in fiction to see a protagonist who struggles with his burdens the way Rand does without coming across as lacking. As they say in the series, "Its never like this in the stories!" and I enjoyed the fact that the weight of Rand's destiny put such an obvious burden on him, unlike your traditional hero who just bears that mountain stoically. I also liked that fact that while his goals were always noble his methods became...questionable (and Im being very generous here) until....well, I wont spoil it. But Rand at the end? The realization of the Dragon? Gave me chills (in a good way) every time he spoke.

Of the other main characters, Im typically not as much of a fan. Perrin was great until about halfway through the books when his focus narrowed down to a very personal goal that put the entire world at risk (gods avoiding spoilers is tough). He was the level headed and thoughtful one and should have known better. Egewene was, generally, pretty interesting but I always found her rise to power a little artificial, even if the reasons behind it were "relatively" sound. And I was never a fan of the over-bearing miss al'Mera; what Lan saw in her is beyond me; she was moody, pushy, bossy, and lacked the experience and skill to back it up. She was a bully throughout the series who believed she knew better than anyone else, including the people who did actually know better than her. Drove me insane, but when I first started reading the series (oh so many years ago) I was in a on-and-off relationship with a woman just like that and the parallels were uncomfortable.

Often I enjoyed the secondary cast more; Verin, just about any member of the Band of the Red Hand, Asmodean, Loial, Moriane of course is amazing and becomes more so with each subsequent re-reading....Hurin and Logain.....all amazing characters.

Even in the time when I new nobody who read wot my favourite character was Mat. And still is...
I think I do not have to point out, why.
Many others 'feel' the same about Mat.
Second is Rand. Even if he changed. He had to.
I must admit I haven't read AMOL, yet.
My plan was to go through the books for a third time, before I start with it.

The first time I read through the series, Lan was my favorite. But now that's its been a while since I've finished the series, I've noticed that whenever I look back I find that Loial is my favorite character. I also remember really liking Thom and Moiraine.

I plan on restarting the series soon, so it'll be interesting to see how my opinions differ compared to when I initially read it.

I really feel like I missed something. Everyone loves Mat, and yet the only real scene that I vividly remember him in is where he crushes it with a staff.

Siuan. Aviendha and Perrin are tied for a close second. :)

Although, whenever I start my re-read, that may change. A lot has changed in the five years since I've read it.

Matt has been my favorite character for the males. The dance that he takes with lady luck through the series is always fun to read. That and the relationship thoughts on how Perrin, Rand, and Matt all think the other is better at understanding women.

Aviendha for the women side. In a way, she is on the opposite side of the world and you can easily relate to some of the emotions she is feeling being in a strange place and trying to understand what is happening.

In books 1-4, it's between Siuan and Moiraine. Though I also really enjoyed Loial.
