If this was posted earlier I can't find it so I apologize. Did the Tinkers ever find "the song?" If they haven't that to me is a HUGE story line left unanswered. Why all the mention of the song and then leave it unanswered! UGH!

As far as I know they did not. I like to think their song was Gypsys, Tramps and Thieves by Cher :giggle

I always believed the Song was the one that made plants grow, so I think Rand knew the Song. But I was sad that he never shared it.

Yeah, Rand knew the song once he became fully integrated with LTT. It's what he used to make the plants grow when he was talking with Tuon.

I think Brandon Sanderson commented on this in his twitter chat shortly after AMoL was released. He basically said that The Song had become more of an ideal to the Tinkers than a real song, and that even if Rand did try to share it with them, they probably wouldn't believe him. The search for The Song had become more important to them than The Song itself.

I don't think that the song actually exists. The song that Rand uses to make things grow is not the song that the Tinker's are looking for. What the Tinker's are searching for is this amalgamation of songs and ideas that probably never actually existed as one entity in the first place, so they will forever be searching for their song. That was the impression I got from reading interviews with Brandon after the release of AMoL.

According to this thread, "If Rand tries to teach the Tuatha'an the song he found in Rhuidean, they would not accept it as The Song. "The Song" will never be found, because it has been made into an unattainable philosophical concept by the Tuatha'an.".

So even if the Song is found, it won't be found. Yeah, that sounds about like what I was thinking.

From the Age of Legends, you mean? I believe the song Rand remembered when he merged with LTT and that one are the same. But I can see how the ideal of the Song transcended through legend, and the Tinkers wouldn't accept it. The search became more meaningful than the destination.

I meant the song the Tinkers are looking for, like a twisted memory of the one the Da'shain sang.

I kinda wish the Tinkers actually found their song, but I think there is a chance that it has never existed, or possible as Rhandahl said that it was the Da'shain Aiel that sung it. All I know is that and quite a few thing have been bothering me. Open ended books, that have been ended, to still have questions unanswered. That is the life of all books, especially the best ones out there.

Excuse me, but considering the fact that we saw the formation of the tinkers at the Rheudian vision, with a group of Aiel breaking off from the main group (the one with the ter'angreal), because they wanted to find the song, with it kinda being symbolic of better times (AoL), and the rest said that it was stupid and that only the orders the from the aes sedai mattered now, doesn't the song have to have be real? And of course, they won't be looking for it for all time because 1. The Tau thaun don't even exist in our present age and 2. The Song will be sung again following the turning of the wheel.
