The Hall of the Tower looked almost exactly how I imagined it, except I always thought the Sitters would be a bit more elevated. But style is exactly how I've thought about it.
The White Tower as such looks shorter than I would've thought, to house 3000 people in half of it. But maybe in this version they also have housing in the foundation levels of the hills? Regardless, I think it looks grand, and it really towers over the rest of the city, which I think is what's important. And Tar Valon in general does look like it's filled with large, fancy houses in general.
The way they do the Power looks pretty good to me, not too flashy but also there's something.
Feeling hyped in general.

I think I’m a bit unique from others in that I always try to avoid seeing trailers for movies or shows I am most invested in. I like to get all the surprise at once.

I haven’t read your reactions in depth to avoid spoilers, but thank you all for watching and making it clear it is going to be a great show :-)

My thoughts:

Nynaeve pushing Egwene into the water and then Egwene emerging in the colored water I think is a dream.
I feel like they made the AS rings absurdly bulky.
I feel like the Tower is a bit stumpy.
I want to know why Moiraine is not wearing her signature diadem thing.
That’s not a stole, it’s a collar, where TF is the stole?
The depiction of channeling is great, though I would prefer slight tinting to show which elements are being channeled.
Shadar Logoth looks awesome!!!!
Why are Rand and Egwene half naked!? I do not like that change!
The trollocs look properly monstrous.
Logaim breaking out? I am assuming that is from how a Red is telling it vs what actually happened.

that being said, I can’t freaking wait for November.

  • Looks like channeling isn't gonna be color coded for the five Powers, but I'm okay with it.
  • In the scene where the Green protects the group from arrows, Lan is totally protecting Nynaeve!
OK! :look: I've thought about this. :look: As Moiraine summons the lightning bolt, it's actually the saidar glow. There is no glow around the Green when she's weaving Air to block the arrows. Both weaves would be Air either way, I think? :look: SO when we see the glow around Moiraine it must be some sort of like special clue in for the viewers-at-home that normal characters in the book wouldn't be able to see unless the current perspective was from other female channelers?

I thought Nynaeve pushing Egwene off the cliff was maybe part of her test but a dream makes a lot of sense.

Rafe said he wouldn't talk about that scene until the end of the season. :grumble:cry

I thought Nynaeve pushing Egwene off a cliff may be a way of initiating her as a Wisdom's apprentice, but it makes a lot more sense if it in the test for Accepted or a dream or vision. I hope for the latter, as it would be an unnecessary detail in the beginning if it was a thing happening before the books starts, so to speak...

First thought: SQUEEEE!!!

Second thought: Where are their shawls? Ohhh, they're wearing their ajahs in their dresses. I guess it makes for better television?

Yes, I didn't like that either. And the colors on the collar was so... wrong? Like, there was pink for Red Ajah.

Yeah it makes more sense visually for tv. You know instantly what Ajah and it makes them seem more like very cohesive groups.

ok after watching the trailer a millions times today here's my reactions:

  • Hmm. Imma need more context for that why Nynaeve/"Nynaeve" might be doing that.
  • omg the Mountains of Mist are MOUNTAINS with MIST.
  • we've seen the Winespring Inn before, but it is still gorgeous. [zooms in] is that a foundation to the right of the building? Also... where's the Winespring? Behind it?
  • I am pretty sure all that fabric is wool or wool blends. Good.
  • look at the carvings on the pillars! lookit! and what are those lamps? so cool
  • you can already see just from one glimpse of our three ta'veren what their personalities are like and what the group dynamics are. Mat is clearly going to be everyone's favorite ... at first bwa ha ha
  • Egwene's dress [swoons] I love that it shows how prosperous the al'Vere family is without flaunting it or making it seem like she's horribly out of context. It's subtle-- a lilac purple-dyed fabric, excellent quality weave, cut and sewn meticulously well, and that belt
  • also those doors. Need. Closeups.
  • ok. the Great Serpant rings are .... I guess I'm glad they're not just a simple ouroborous because you can buy those a dime a dozen pretty much anywhere, so from a merchandising standpoint I like the idea of having something that really Stands Out. From later glimpses you can tell they're Ajah-specific though so .... do they get the Ring when they're Raised to the Shawl, instead of Accepted? How will that affect the three women later when they have the Ring but aren't full sisters, but kinda just don't mention that?
  • I like the idea of Egwene emerging from the water being a Dream but the colors are ... I'm unsure. I think, possibly, (going clockwise) they are Blue, Gray, White, Yellow, Red, Green, and Brown but ... it really just looks like Red, White, Yellow, and Purple. Maybe they're not supposed to be super clear because then it might be more obvious what the Dream means (she becomes Amyrlin), if it is a Dream. From Nynaeve pushing her off into the river, and then her floating down it with her face very conveniently above water a little bit later... I think "Dream" is the most likely interpretation at this point. I wonder if it might come after Moiraine talks about the Power being a river contained by the banks?
  • I looked very closely at every single building in Tar Valon on my TV and ... little bit disappointed. It looks like a Minis Tirith knock off, when it's one of the most original fantasy settings I've ever read described in a book. I didn't see any schools of fish or birds taking flight so like ... mmf. My partner suggested the masonry might not be visible from a distance and it'll be rendered better street-level so that's my hope now.
  • I think the blonde is most likely to be Liandrin, and I really like the decision not to do cornrows. I think, visually speaking, it would be in poor taste for a modern TV audience, and I think it wouldn't be a good change to change her ethnicity to one that could wear cornrows non-appropriatively, as that would mean making the first Black sister reveal be played an African-diaspora actress and ... hard pass.
  • the COSTUMES
  • the SET DESIGN
  • LEANE omg LEANE. That DRESS, Leane, I'm LIVING
  • working the stole into her collar like that is so ingenius, and I love that the colors are toned down. I've been wondering how they were going to do that, and I love this direction.
  • wait when would Moiraine get Healing from another sister? Well, hmm. The pillows she's laying on are luxurious, and that wound does not look fresh. Maybe it's when she's visiting the Tower? But then why not a Yellow?
  • the voice over saying "and the women who can touch it protect the world" while showing a group shot of Reds. Their job as the Nuclear Deprolifieration unit should definitely be highlighted if they're not going to be The Slytherin Ajah.
  • that AXE that is exactly what I've been hoping to see from Power-wrought weapons. You can just tell from looking at it how that's not a regular blacksmith product. It would stand out as special even to a passing glance.
  • the warder's belt on the left, behind Alanna, I love it. Even the Warders get to be fahncy
  • Alanna's costume is breathtaking I'm so happy they hired that leatherworker, he is one of the best decisions that show ever made.
  • Wait why is Lan with Nynaeve and Alanna with Moiraine nowhere in sight??????
  • mmm yeah Northarbor lol
  • ohhhhh Shadar Logoth is gonna be creeeeepy
  • some have suggested the man in the gibbet is an Aiel, but I think it's just a darkfriendis that-- could that be --- HOPPER?
  • I think that is Egwene and Rand in the baths at Fal Dara coming to terms with how they're not meant to be together and they're kinda ok with that? ish? Especially with Thom's "heartbreak" voiceover

  • "the Wheel keeps turning" spoken over three shots of people dancing in a circle, a funeral laid out in a circle, and the Hall in a circle is some PEAK editing
  • FINALLY we get to hear Daniel Henney's Lan and yup. He's perfect and anyone who says differently can fight me.
  • does Rand and Mat running like that mean they stain in town on Winternight? Cinematically that would make more sense.
  • WHO did Lan just punch out? who is that???
  • oh Moiraine leaving the Hall with the Browns having turned their back? what is she getting censured for? Or is that just how they all vote? What did they vote on? I LOVE how they're bringing Tower politics into this much sooner. Siuan getting deposed later on will be less of a shock if we get to see Elaida and others maneuvering against her
  • what's that battle scene??? the clothes are Tinker-y but that can't be what I'm seeing
  • I'm still disappointed by the Waygate so far. Hopefully there's some kind of cool CGI while they open it, but that big empty space instead of the vines that come alive when you place the leaf correctly .... I'm just a wee bit sad, and have been since it was first leaked. I also don't see Loial so like. Hmm.
  • I KNEW IT I KNEW IT I knew when they hired some of the best SFX makeup arts that we were going to see some incredible creature design and I WAS RIGHT
  • the channeling was, of course, epic.
  • ... I kinda hate that the Inception "BWAAAAAH" still works ...

That’s what I was thinking as well!

I think that they made the costumes colored to help viewers remember their Ajah.

This was my thought - it has to do with being a Wisdom.
