I'm also not a fan of calling it mysticism, not channeling...

Wait, what? :look: They aren't scientologists! They are witches - for pete's sake. :facepalm

Also mysticism sounds much less agentic and more feminine, versus channelling is a much more active verb. Given that women are the ones that do this the most, it seems a bit sexist to make that change. :grumble :cheeseeni:

And once again picky about Logain - he is supposed to look regal even though he is in chains. Also don't like the full beard.

The other pieces are okay - it makes sense for the Emonds Field 5 to have clothing like that. But Moiraine
(nearly queen of Cairhein)
? Not sure she would go for a dress like that...
Maybe Siuan though! :rofl

No casual movie news reader is going to know what the hell channeling is in this specific context. "Mystic" is... a bit weird, but fine I guess. Honestly, calling it straight up magic for a casual audience would be better. The Aes Sedais are sorceresses in everything but name.

Hmmm thats true @Aran Cherubim - hopefully they change the name back in the show.
But sorceress would work just fine too.

I wonder why they didn't just say magic - ?

Hm, it's just a bit... eh. The whole calf-length skirt over non-matching leggings is an interesting choice. I guess this is their interpretation of the infamous "split skirts for riding"? Also, I really dislike the trend of medieval peasant = baggy and ill-fitting, when that's not true at all. Some clothing was quite tight, and even looser tunics didn't look so... modern baggy. So it sort of just makes them look messy to me, like they're wearing castoffs that haven't been tailored to fit them. Mat in particular has a very modern oversized aesthetic, to me.

Yeah, thanks for putting this into words, I struggled a bit.

Just because they're not wealthy enough for the most expensive fabrics doesn't mean they don't know sew to fit clothing.

With this all being said, I guess the style is growing a little on me after having looked at it a bit more. It's likely traveling clothes, and so on.

Do remember this is Moiraine who's spent most of the last ~20 years on the road trying to track down the Dragon. Not a lot of chances for any too-fancy clothing.

She's also running around principally as "Lady Alys" who is at best a minor noble, not a possible Cairhienen heir.

The writer called it "mystic" and "mysticism," not Rafe. He's always called it channeling, so that's not something to worry about.

I for one, am glad to see a variety in costumes past long sleeved dresses, coats, and cloaks. :look:

And, after listening to Rafe's interview where he gave us the poster , i think he's personally got a handle on the whole channeling thing.

I'm mostly okay with the costumes.

Although Mat looks like a bit of a bum and Lan seems to be in his pyjamas.

Other than that, should be good.

I didn't zoom in to read the full article but I'm guessing mysticism is mentioned there? Weird phrasing but I'm sure that's the magazine using that term. In one of the captions, or whatever you call it, they refer to Lan as a bodyguard (or Warder), so I'm sure it's the same thing. We'll see.

In general, I don't like the chosen costumes. I expected more coats, they need it when they need hide your faces, I love those tense moments of the books.

Lan with this costume is anodyne, He doesn't seems dangerous like in the books.

Egwene is wearing pants. That feels like a very "Egwene" decision to make as she's dressing for an adventure. Alanna also looks to be wearing pants, which I love.
So in these case... what will happen to Min now? She was a rebellious girl... :facepalm

I'm not sure how I should feel... I don't understand what is happening and will happen to this serie. I mean, I read that the guardian's coat was discarder because make it out to be there was not enough money. So, What we can expect to this serie if there aren't enough economic investment? I'm afraid that WoT is a fantasy book so need a lot of special effect...

I hope to be wrong but sometimes I think that this series won't be like we expected.

Well, I think it will still work, because the women in the released pictures all appear to be wearing skirts over leggings, not truly pants (which makes a lot of sense when you're going to be walking or riding a lot, I've decided I like that choice ). Min wearing straight up breeches would definitely look different and still be daring, especially if they're tight and colorful.

Agreed, leggings/breeches are different. And the budget for the show is huge, they just don't want to spend an enormous amount on minor details like the fancloth cloaks.

I'm not the most positive towards the show but I still think it will be good. I just don't need a show :giggle

Not sure how much it would cost but I really liked the effects they used in the predator movies. That would be perfect for fancloth

There's a big difference between throwing an effect on a few parts of a youtube video and having an effect that looks film-quality good for every second that one of your major characters is onscreen. I imagine it's especially complicated because it's not all of Lan's outfit, so you'd have to be very precise about the edges and which bits get edited. Rafe has flat out said that money is better spent elsewhere.

I'm still of the opinion that we could get a similar effect with just fabric and it wouldn't cost a fortune. How do I know? I've done it.
