I pictured the Waygate with a lot more flowery design, since it is made by Ogiers... But I am more bothered by the lack of darkness could be that it is after she destroys the Waygate, so that it no longer works...

I agree @Aduiavas Ida Sedai - it isn't like I pictured them at all.
But I guess as Sanderson said, we should consider this to be another turn of the Wheel.

This time, it's with Rond and Moyraine. :rofl

The different pronunciations don’t faze me and actually enhance the global aspect of the show’s concept. My last name by marriage is Japanese and after 17 years, my southern USA self still can’t pronounce it correctly. :p Same with spellings. Variations abound and should be expected.

@Aratouial Delafeld , thank you so much for the transcription! Am I alone in realizing that the show’s forerunner has the same initials as our beloved author’s pen name? RJ? I only noticed reading the transcripts.

They really love the cold color balance, don't they?

I was weirdly... disappointed is maybe the word, with the costumes. They're very plain. I guess this makes sense for the Two Rivers kids, and maybe Lan wouldn't exactly be rocking embroidery or whatever, but it does feel a little bit reminiscent of lots of other half-baked medieval shows that just throws some wollen rags over people and call it a day because "medieval times were dirty and poor, lol", especially with the frayed edges of the cloth.

Perrin makes sense though. And while I'm not a huge fan over the weirdly implicit trend of always giving main characters some form of jacket regardless of historicity (seriously, remember when they made a show set on Krypton before the fall, and the main character just wore a leather jacket for no reason?) it does convey the fact that he's a sheepfarmer, which is a pretty cool storytelling device, so that's kinda neat.

I'm definitely overthinking this.

I don't know I liked the clothes, especially the boots, they look very comfy :look: Maybe the coats are not what I imagine when I read the books though, I imagine.. cloaks instead I guess :scratch Cloaks is used more often I believe?

The only problem I see when everyone together is that Moiraine is too damn tall  She is gorgeous though! So exicted!:embarassed:mg

I'm not a huge fan of the clothes either, Egwene is too fancy, and Rand's jacket is not fitting to the rest of them. Unless, of course, this is from after they have been at Fal Dara.
I'm also not a fan of calling it mysticism, not channeling...

And it seems they will introduce Alanna as one of Logain's captors :) It makes sense to reduce the number of characters and introduce more of them earlier.

The cold color balance is a bit noticeable, I agree Aran.

I like the outfits otherwise, though. I think as cosplayers many of us tend to think of WoT in terms of the Aes Sedai in their best finery, but especially for the journey parts of the narrative I can see fairly plain clothing being the order of the day. Let's see what happens when we're in Caemlyn or when the Amyrlin turns up!

Hm, it's just a bit... eh. The whole calf-length skirt over non-matching leggings is an interesting choice. I guess this is their interpretation of the infamous "split skirts for riding"? Also, I really dislike the trend of medieval peasant = baggy and ill-fitting, when that's not true at all. Some clothing was quite tight, and even looser tunics didn't look so... modern baggy. So it sort of just makes them look messy to me, like they're wearing castoffs that haven't been tailored to fit them. Mat in particular has a very modern oversized aesthetic, to me.

I quite like Nynaeve's green coat in that first picture, although all the coats are really modern looking imo. And I agree on liking Perrin, his costume seems to suit him the best. Moiraine also looks nice.

Not gonna lie though, as a person for whom costuming can really make or break a show, this is kind of underwhelming.

I like the outfits, at least well enough, but then I didn't expect to be wowed by the Two Rivers gang's outfits anyway. Sure, some things look a little modern, but since Wheel of Time is not supposed to literally be medieval era Earth, that doesn't bother me. To me at least the colors feel very earthy, not necessarily dull, which reads to me as trying to be in keeping with what kinds of dyes would have been available to poorer people - and at least they're not all wearing brown! Moiraine is wearing a true, cobalt blue, as well as a lighter bright blue top - which I think is indicative that characters with greater wealth/status may wear brighter colors.

In particular, I like Rand's sheepskin jacket. I feel like this isn't something I've seen often, and it feels right given the fact that he's a sheepherder. I think Egwene looks comfortable and warm, and I really like the patterned skirt. Mat's outfit, while way too big for him, is somewhat reminiscent of the outfit everyone draws him wearing, with the green jacket - I wonder if this was intentional? Perrin's costume definitely suits him.

The outfit I actually like least is Nynaeve's - I just don't think it looks good in the photo. The color of her jacket doesn't suit the color scheme of the rest of the image so she sticks out a bit like a sore thumb, and it just doesn't look like it fits her well. She just looks... frumpy. (Though I suppose that criticism could apply to Mat and Rand as well - they look pretty sloppy/frumpy too.) Maybe it'll win me over when I see it in motion, but for now I am not a fan. Other criticisms from me include that I think it's weird that Mat has a beard, and Lan's pants look really ridiculously baggy. Like, baggy enough that he'll be tripping on them.

I also definitely envisioned more cloaks as opposed to jackets, but from a costuming standpoint I imagine it might be difficult to make the characters look distinct from each other when they're all wearing cloaks that cover up most of their clothing.

The costumes are better than what I was expecting from Isis-- I had *very* low expectations, and this has surpassed it. I think, based on the background landscape and how dirty Moiraine's dress has gotten, that the raggedy-ness might be partly due to this being post-Ways-travel. They've been on the road for a while doing some hard adventuring, so it makes sense for them to look a little torn up. It also makes sense based on how hurriedly they left-- Rand dragged his father into town from Winternight wearing what he could quickly throw on, and then left Emond's Field almost immediately after.

I really do appreciate the coats, actually. For the rest of the series, all the men always wear coats while it fluctuates for women. I do like the slightly modern-ish styling to the coats, as this is a post-apocalyptic Renaissance era. I also really like the fact that Egwene is wearing pants. That feels like a very "Egwene" decision to make as she's dressing for an adventure. Alanna also looks to be wearing pants, which I love.

And Moiraine's coat? swoon

Nynaeve's braid is perfect. PERFECT.

I really like the decision to put Egwene in plaid/tartan. It's traditionally wool cloth, and it kinda makes sense with the whole "wishing for good Two Rivers woollens" that we constantly get whacked with throughout the series.

The other clothing I'm sure will make more sense when we see it in context with the rest of the show. We're just seeing a literal snapshot representation and we don't have much context for it until the show airs.

Let's see what happens when we're in Caemlyn or when the Amyrlin turns up!

It seems to me we will not be getting a Caemlyn this season. It seems the Logain thing will be filmed in the woods instead. (From the photos)
Elayne not being cast only makes me more certain of it.
