Welcome Nadezhda!

That human rights council sounds like an interesting board to sit on! What sort of things do you end up involved in?

Our main mission is to increase cohesion between the different cultures and diverse people of the city. We also hear complaints and hear from movements (like NAACP and BLM). Right now, I’m the Chair of the Education Committee and I work with the School System on stuff. Right now I’m working on a project with them and the Mayor’s Office on a Student Committee, made up of high schoolers. I’m also the youngest on a city board at the age of 20 in the history of our city. I’d say that on the Human Relations Commission, I’m the you get by a decade or so.

I was surprised to see the Headquarters of Tar Valon was in Huntsville. Color me amazed, Avendaella Aes Sedai. It’s not the most well-known of cities but we’re trying to change that.

Yes! I absolutely love Huntsville! So many cool things. One of my cousins hosts the Huntsville Comic and Pop expo. I hope to make it up next year again for it.

Hey, it's great to see you! We should chit-chat sometime, newbie to newbie. I am sure there is much I could learn from you.
Thank you, Nandi Aes Sedai!

I have never been, but I would like to next time it happens. Maybe we can having a little meeting of the Tower there? Seems a fitting venue.

Thank you, Accepted!

Thank you, Nymala Aes Sedai! I am glad I got everything sorted as well, I am grateful for your help earlier. Indeed, I might be biased towards the Blue Ajah because of Moiraine and Siuan.

Yeah, I love to write Fantasy! I have been working on a series for sometime now that is Fantasy. I would say that I have been inspired a lot by Jordan, Sanderson, and Tolkien. Though, I have also been heavily influenced by myself being LGBTQ+ and by the authors Sabaa Tahir and Tomi Adeyemi to add diversity to my books. I don't think there's enough LGBTQ+ representation within the Fantasy genre.

The first LGBTQ+ positive fantasy I read was the Nightrunner series by Lynn Flewelling. Some of it has aged a little weirdly - she was exploring trans themes in her Tamir Triad a good 20 years ago - but it was my first introduction to LGBTQ fantasy and the first same sex romance I ever rooted for. HUGELY transformational for me. If you like LGBTQ fantasy you should look it up. :)

I believe my first LGBTQ+ positive Fantasy was the Arrows Trilogy by Mercedes Lackey. While it wasn’t expansive, I felt great that it was there and treated like it was normal. I’m hoping to read her Herald-Mage Trilogy which has a gay main character I believe!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m anxious too. But I’m starting to realize Tar Valon is very much journey before destination.

OMG! :embarassed:mg That is the most AMAZING trilogy ever! I :loveVanyel!

When I went to D*Con in 2019 (I cosplayed as Kerowyn, from By the Sword), there was a 'old school' YA books forum, and one of the moderators talked about that trilogy being his first introduction to someone who wasn't heterosexual, as he was from a small town with certain opinions.... :(
Lackey is amazingly intersectional and inclusive in her works. And most of them are from the 80's, when not all folks were like that. :halo
