How are they going to make her a love interest if they don't meet until Falme? Not that their interaction in Baerlon is very much, but it is something, and important for Min being in TarValon and befriending the girls.

The moment where they say this is the farthest they have been from the two rivers is very reminiscent of Sam from LOTR. Also that moment where Matt first does the Manetheren battle cry, definitely chills. Also Mordeth is reminscent of Wormtongue

Well, she didn't actually tell them not to touch anything. That is the problem. She asked (after it was already too late) if he had given them anything.

If she had warned them, and given them the story while they rode there, they may not have sneaked off. Or maybe they would :tug

I mean, she’s an Aes Sedai. Half her life is using very exact language so that people hear more than she says and she can take advantage of loopholes they didn’t realise existed.

:eek
You make a great point @Aduiavas Ida Sedai that I never thought about it before. Most of the first part of the series involves a TON of long traveling - hours and hours on horseback.
It is a common fantasy trope, but couldn't they all have told each other their entire life stories in this amount of time? :scratch

I was ok with these chapters. I felt they were pretty quick. though I really disliked the weird flashback sequence in Rand's chapters - I think as writing, it just didn't work
That is one part of the book I could see cutting in the show.

Do Play for your supper and 4 Kings..then skip to them arriving in Camelyn.

Why, Mat, why!!??

Honestly, because it needed to happen. Fain was going to end up in Shadar Logath because he was tracking the boys, so Fain was going to fuse with Mordeth.

I honestly think Mat grabbing the Dagger was a Tav'eren tugging of the pattern for something that needed to be.

Ooops forgot to post yesterday :look: We are on Week 6 :joy Some of my favorite chapters :D

I may have already began the Great Hunt :look: And in the first couple chapters of tGH it's mentioned that Elayne and Gawyn have gone to the White Tower, which made me think to their introduction to Rand and the reader in Chapter 40 of EotW... how old is Elayne at this point anyway? :scratch

In Rand's POV : "She was perhaps two or three years younger than he, tall for a girl,"

So, this would probably make her 15/16? Which... isn't it suuper late for a Novice? I imagine they go to the White Tower at 12/13. If I remember correctly, that was Moiraine's age, when she bacame Novice and spent 3 years, until she became Accepted at around 16. Moiraine had began chanelling in Cairhien, before she went to the Tower, and if Elayne has the spark, she must have started chanelling already under Elaida's overseeing probably? Technically Egwene has also began chanelling now, since Moiraine has guided her a bit. So, from what I am understanding all of them are sort of wilders, aren't they? :P

That does raise an interesting question. I think girls with the spark usually start a little older, but if they ever start as young as 13/14 it would be incredibly reckless for Elaida to not give Elayne her first lessons. I think the information for when people start is out there somewhere, maybe in the companion.

According to the Thirteenth Depository (quick Google Search :P ) Elayne is 17. I think Egwene is the same, maybe 16...

I guess that makes the Age that puts people as "too old" at 18 to 20?

I think Nyneave is in her mid 20s? (she was old enough to have babysat Rand IIRC)

Oooh, I actually managed to catch up with everyone - just starting on Chapter 35 now!

A few little things:

- Definitely been noticing when Rand either channels himself (& the side effects of doing so) or notices channelling much more on this reread.

- Nynaeve blushing around Lan :love

- I'd forgotten just how awful Mat & Rand's journey to Caemlyn was, so many Darkfriends and Four Kings sounds an absolutely delightful place that I wouldn't send my worst enemy to.

- Ishamael and his thigh-high boots just makes me think of Lil Nas X in the "Montero" video now and that's a lot of mental images that I am more than okay with :rofl

In chapter 26, we see the first sign of one of Egwene's character traits. She tries to absorb and learn as much as she can about every new peoplegroup she meets. It is most obvious with the Aiel of course, as she spends a long time there, but it is present here too. She tries to learn the Tinker dance, and spend a lot of time with them learning different things. This part of Egwene I like...

Also, chapter 29 is horrible for me to read. I am scared of birds, and this chapter does not help with that!

I'm going to go out on a limb here with an unpopular opinion...

I really liked Egwene (in this book at least). I think I saw some of myself in her, and still do :look:.
I have two younger brothers who kinda needed...a guiding hand growing up and felt that Egwene acted out of a desire to help others, not necessarily because she was trying to be controlling. It definitely comes off as Aes Sedai-type bossiness, though.

I met the Trakands & Co. last night.

Elaida is the first Aes Sedai we meet in-story that isn't Moiraine. And she, in one scene, embodies the rumored Aes Sedai duplicitous nature. She tells Morgase a bit of what she foretells, in that Andor will be divided soon, and it throws Morgase off her game. Then, while she's distracted, she finishes off her Foretelling with what includes Rand where she can't hear, but she still says it clearly "as the Queen demands." This both helps Rand by not making Morgase suspicious of him, but also keeps the Queen in the dark, scares the crap out of Rand, and benefits Elaida the most.

...I loathe Elaida.

And, I've thought about this post, because I don't want to be like, "Here's a difficult circumstance. She handled it to benefit herself, and I don't like her." Let me follow it up with what I would have done, if I had all this knowledge. The Foretelling is a weird Talent, so I don't know if she knows about the details of Morgase's fall. I imagine after a prediction like that, Morgase would have wanted to talk to her about everything she knew about the forthcoming division. I'm sure her interaction with Morgase went about as well as it could have. I never thought those two made a productive pair.

So, I likely would have kept that part in. Probably would have tried to err more on the, "Let me actually help you out" side of it, though. But, since I don't know about that ensuing conversation, I can't say what I would have said differently.

The part of the scene that bothers me the most is the comment about Rand in his earshot. Were I in Elaida's shoes, I would have given him a heads-up with some sort of note afterwards, maybe phrased it a bit better. Knowing he was from a more rural area, and possibly more suspicious of me than most, I likely would have just left it at that. Offering help would have made him more nervous and suspicious. If I offered concrete help, it would likely cause more chaos and destruction in the end.

With my own foreknowledge of the books, and how Elaida tries to manipulate Rand, and that she started off knowing how much happens around him, it just puts into perspective how selfish and power-hungry she truly is.

Yeah, I created templates for each of the main characters for their character development section of the notes, so it is then easy to see which chapters have significant development for them
