My jaw dropped open at the $1bil price tag but then I got curious, and Game of Thrones cost roughly $1.5bil for eight seasons, which just sounds bonkers. I think Amazon's only committed to 5 seasons for their Second Age Lord of the Rings show, though, so that's a much higher price point per episode.

IMDB just added their first accountant to the WoT page, so maybe it'll be possible to get an idea of how much they are thinking about spending per episode soon. I don't want WoT to play second fiddle to LotR but maybe that's inevitable.

Back to casting news: I am not a fan of Laila being Perrin's wife and dying on Winternight. We don't need a Woman in the Refrigerator in the very first episode, thanks.

Jordan does a fairly good job NOT fridging women with the exception of Dina (although he thoroughly fridges Thom's nephew Owyn, in a nice subversion of tropes) and I like it. Let's stick with that.

I had no idea that 'fridging' was even a term  Honestly, its something that happens all the time in all sorts of stories to all sorts of people, and I think it would go a long way to reinforcing Perrins character and choices. If she's his sister does it still count as being 'fridged'? Because honestly I don't see how they're gonna get through Winternight without Fridging a lot of people...

Fridging is when they introduce a female character purely to kill her in a horrible way (usually including sexual assault) to give the male lead something to be angsty about. It's basically using a female character as a prop to drive a man's story. That's why people object to it. If they do this to "Laila" whoever she is, she won't be a character in her own right, she won't be an independent person in the story, she'll just be meat to get Perrin properly upset and send him on his way. Perrin already has plenty of motivation in the story as written, IMO.

TV tropes calls it Disposable Woman: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DisposableWoman

(Which is why I mention both Dena and Owyn. Dena is a classic fridged woman. Owyn is the rare example of a fridged man.)

Yeah, you're right, it would be nice if they would avoid using female characters in that way.

I wonder if they would go so far as to take Faile out completely?

Also I wonder if we're going to get any new casting today.

Snark aside, this makes me hope that maybe we'll get to see Tam a little more often than in the books. Bit of a shame to waste that actor on a character that shows up at the very beginning and then disappears for several books. Maybe they could show him and Abell going to Tar Valon?

Michael McElhatton is a brilliant choice for Tam. Fantastic, respected actor. Love this

I'm excited! Anyone with the range to play unsettling and creepy like Roose Bolton will be able to nail a complex character like Tam! :joy

I hope he gets a beard or something... Or I will have a hard time seeing him as anyone other than Roose Bolton
