So I've been sitting here listening to the old soundtracks from Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, Crouching Tiger, Last Samurai and other films and thinking about how great music just on it's own can drop you into the atmosphere of a production.

WoT covers a lot of different cultures and I think it'll be essential that each environment has an appropriate sound to accompany the imagery. The Two Rivers, Aiel Wastes, Borderlands, Seanchan, The White Tower should all feel different musically. I want the level of music to make me look over my shoulder as the party moves through Shadar Logoth.

Has there been official talk about this anywhere? Is there a budget for a full and varied orchestra?

Does anyone know of/have examples of TV/Streaming productions that have produced music befitting WoT?

I don't have answers for any of your questions, but I love film scores and I agree that the music will be an important aspect of the experience.

Same, I love listening to movie soundtracks. I find I haven't listened to many TV soundtracks though, maybe because they don't seem as available? I'm hoping for a great soundtrack for WoT!!

I think there is a lot of opportunity to do some really cool things here musically. It will be cool to hear some of the songs like "Jak o'the Shadows" in there as well as a musical score itself.

There are SO MANY CULTURES to be able to represent musically! That's one of the things I'm really excited about with the show. Hopefully they do a better job than the Robert Barry soundtrack. That's just one interpretation but it's more from the point of view of the Transiberian Orchestra style rather than from a cinematic orchestra.

Vangelis would be awesome if they are still around. They did the score for Chariots of Fire and Blade runner. At least one song!!

I would love to hear some of the fan music in the background during some of the scenes...like Tinker in the Kitchen by Reflections of Sound Music...that would be super cool!

That’s a fan-written piece, not the official theme. I don’t think they’ve announced who is doing the music for the show. But that being said, the piece is gorgeous and I could totally see it being used! :love

They need to contact this guy and ask for the rights to put this in the show - because it's perfect.

For many years there has been some Wheel of time music out on Spotify, by a Robert Berry. I have no idea where it comes from...

Here is the best one

Yes, I remember listening to that years ago. It was an official soundtrack made for the books.

It would be fun to hear music from the fans!
It's impressive to see all the music that comes up when you search "Wheel of Time."

I'm hoping whoever the composer is that they create themes and motifs for our core team (Rand, Mat, Perrin, Egwene, Elayne, Aviendha, Nynaeve) as well as themes for the primary factions (Aes Sedai, Maidens, Whitecloaks, etc).

Rand's theme should obviously (IMO, ha) be introduced on a flute and have callbacks to shepherd songs-- then maybe later bring in trumpet, French horn? when it needs to sound "majestic." I want Mat's to have a definite fiddle feel to it, and for Perrin's to be played on cello, euphonium, etc. Egwene's I need on an oboe because it can sound so incredibly sweet and lovely as well as mournful and mysterious, and I think that's perfect.

Rand:
Mat:
What cello and euphonium can sound like together:
A short oboe solo by Tchaikovsky:

Some of my picks who have done really excellent music for TV:

Kevin Kiner (Star Wars: Clone Wars and Rebels):
If you grew up on Batman the Animated Series like I did, you'll recognize Shirley Walker:

Giacchino has done lots of great music for TV and his music for the new Star Treks and Star Wars Rogue was incredible, but honestly I really love the music from John Carter (the entire movie is wholly underrated):
