While it's obvious why Gitara Moroso had the urge to convince Tigraine Mantear to leave for the waste, I'm curious about why Luc Mantear had to leave for the Blight. Do anyone have any theories about why?

Was he supposed to accomplish anything else than meeting Isam Mandragoran and becoming Slayer? Or was Gitara influenced by the Dark One or Ishamael? Slayer isn't very good for the Light as I recall. Is it about balance?

I haven't read the books in a while. Doing a re-read, on TDR now. I don't remember this being addressed, I'm sorry if it is. I haven't read the Wheel of Time Companion.

What are your thoughts on Slayer as a character?

I find his personality and wolf-murdering quite annoying, but the concept of two people merging and become a new entity is fascinating. Isam and the Town is a really unexpected (but maybe it shouldn't have been?) and fascinating addition to the story.

Yeah, that is the part that I have never been able to understand. But maybe Gitara simply sent him somewhere to prevent him from stopping Tigraine from leaving? The result was not her plan at all? If i remember correctly, Luc left first...

I think in a lot of ways, Slayer does a lot to help shape Perrin. But that's the only thing I can really think of right now :cheeseeni: Though I like the idea about balance.

I'm in the same camp as Atarah. I think that a lot of the seemingly random people that the main three, where part of the Pattern. Even Moiraine going on her search for the Babe on the mountain was on the surface her being there when Gitara had her Foretelling, but also she was of the royal family in Cairhien, and when she was raised the Tower was looking to make her Queen, which of course scared her away to go on a "foolish" adventure trying to find this boy
So many things seem to be chance, but often are just wefts of the weave showing themselves.

I believe you're right about Luc leaving first, Aduiavas Sedai. I do recall something about getting him out of the way now thag you mentioned it. Maybe there's something about it in New Spring? Have to reread that one again some time.

I agree, Atarah Sedai and Wil Gaidin. A lot of the main casts experiences are necessary to shaping them. That's one of the reasons I started pondering this. It could actually be the Pattern that saw the necessity of Luc and Isam becoming Slayer and adept in Tel'Aran'Rhiod in order to force Perrin to spend so much time there in training. I love how this world is knit together!

Doesn't Luc also kill Janduin (Rand's father) because Janduin thought he looked so much like Tigraine? So he had to be there for that. Otherwise Rand would've been able to meet his father :(

Yes, it had to be him. And I agree, it would have changed a lot if Rand had met Janduin. I'm leaning more towards the Pattern just being the main influence for Gitara's vision about Luc. It's just too much important things and hero shaping happening because of it. (To me the Pattern weaves the most neutral and balanced course to keep itself and everything existing.)

I just re-read New Spring and he’s not mentioned that I recall.

He is mentioned in the dark prophesy in the dungeon in Fal Dara. I also think Ba'alzamon mentions him in the first book, but I don't remember where...
