TBH, I was really worried that the two rivers people were going to get whitewashed. I've always read them as sort of ethnically mixed. I am so pleased, because I think it shows that the showrunners are actually going deep enough into the material to get those kinds of subtle clues. I'm hoping that the borderlanders will be asian actors too!

Same!! I was really worried about this, which is one reason why I am so beyond happy and excited with these reveals. I really trust now that they are going to do their best with this show.

They're all so gorgeouuuuuuus!! :embarassed:mg

I'm really glad they didn't go with a "token diversity" situation where just one of them was a person of color. I'm sooooo excited!!

The only problem I have with it is how it is repeatedly said in the book that the old blood runs strong in the Two rivers. This does not at all mean white, in fact I agree that it probably mean not-white, but it means they should look similar to each other...

But other than that, I am happy about the choices. I don't see the choice for Rand yet, but I am sure I will get used to it :)

I always took the "old blood runs strong" line to be in reference to their tenacity, fighting spirit, and strength of character/in the One Power.

My reactions:
Rand: Hmm, yeah, okay, I can get behind that.
Perrin: YES. HELL YES. Not how I'd always pictured him, but this is so much better!
Nynaeve: Yaaaasssssssssssss
Matt: Yup. That's Matt. No question.
Egwene: Light bless Rand, she's going to be merciless to that poor woolhead.

Also
I am disappointed in the people attacking the choices because "they aren't White"
Those people can St-right-the-FU as far as I'm concerned. Nothing says Emonds Fielders all have to be white. Yes, I did imagine them white and, embarrassingly, I never thought of them casting actors of color, but when I saw those pictures, I was blown away by just how much *better* they are than the bland fantasy stereotypes I had in my head.

As I see more pictures of them and not just their professional headshots, I get more and more excited. I was already on board with all the castings, but seeing pictures that are less "posed," they're even more perfect.

Omg I love the Perrin casting so much in particular, he looks so much like I pictured him. Egwene is my other favorite, although I really like them all! Rand I'm slightly more meh on, but I'm definitely not opposed!

There is so much diversity in the world o WoT. I think the concern that some folks have is that they are pushing too much diversity for the sake of it, rather than reflect the diversity as depicted in the novels. Some of the leads may not be as I had pictured, but we all have our own ideas of their appearance. I am hopeful that those cast can portray the characters they are intended to. Hoping the heart if the story shines through.

"pushing diversity for the sake of it"

This should be a thing more often. All the time.

I feel like Viggo would show up as full on Aragorn and no one would know the difference. Until he starts speaking in Elvish.

Blacksmiths look nothing like this guy. Their shoulders in particular have to be wide with bulk, especially considering the timeline of the series, where its not modern times so no electricity to help through the brutal process of forging.

I won't be watching this series, none of these actors look at all, not even close to what I pictured. I canceled my Prime 3 weeks ago because I decided I am no longer supporting Jeff Bezos anymore. This only makes it easier for me.

I have always pushed for Viggo Mortensen for Lan. He is supposed to be an older man, so he would be perfect :)
